Well that's the end of that.

Looks like the heatwaves finished.
It's gone cloudy with spots of rai .

In a strange way I think I'll miss it.

Grannybags

So disappointed - only rained for 5 minutes

It looked like a downpour here but it was short lived.

I would love a bit of rain but dread having a downpour now - we are on clay and after over 8 months with no rain it is as hard as cement. Last time that happened we got flooded as all the water just ran down through gardens and roads with nowhere to go. It would be nice to get a bit of rain each night until the ground is soft again, but I expect that's too much to hope for ?

Urmstongran Tue 19-Jul-22 20:39:35

Hi all - well I’m joyous cos I asked Alexa at 4pm what the weather is here in Urmston.

“Right now it’s 34°C. Tonight it will be 16°C”

???
Can’t wait!

We had some rain and thunder at lunch time followed by baking heat. Cooled down considerably by late afternoon and 22 degrees predicted for tomorrow. Lovely smile

Jane43 Tue 19-Jul-22 20:14:40

We spoke to DH’s sister in Torquay at mid day, she said it was very dark, quite cool and had just started to rain, the sun was beating down here and apart from taking our dog to the vet this morning we haven’t been out, it’s just too hot. I anticipate another sleepless night tonight, we get the sun on the front of the house in the afternoon and evening and last night the bedroom was like an oven; having the windows open didn’t make any difference at all.

Witzend Tue 19-Jul-22 20:13:29

A few spots of rain here (outer SW London) but it’s stopped now.
I’ve just heard thunder! Oh for a good storm and some lashing rain! ?

watermeadow Tue 19-Jul-22 20:13:27

A hot spell usually ends in thunderstorms, which I love, especially at night. We desperately need prolonged rain after a very dry winter, spring and summer. It will probably start raining on Friday as the schools break up.

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 19-Jul-22 20:05:40

About 10 fat drops of rain fell, sun is shining again and it’s still 28degrees, with a hot breeze.

This time next week we will be looking back and wishing it was still ‘Summer’.

Shandy57 Tue 19-Jul-22 20:00:04

My laptop is saying 28C, room thermostat 25.8C. Feet are saying 30C - skechers aren't the best footwear in hot weather! Have to walk the dog before darkness starts falling, light is going earlier each evening.

Callistemon21 Tue 19-Jul-22 19:25:27

My stupid tablet told me it was 21C outside earlier - well, it's 33C now so I think it must have been lying.

Glorianny Tue 19-Jul-22 18:30:22

I started reading this thread then got annoyed because it's still boiling here and rain sounds wonderful (not very often I say that)

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 19-Jul-22 18:29:32

28 degrees here in Oxfordshire, took the washing in earlier, my word, were those pegs hot, I touched the wire part, ouch!

Hazy here now though, hopefully we will get some rain.

HowVeryDareYou Tue 19-Jul-22 18:26:33

It's 36 here in Nottingham, at 6.30pm. It was 43 in the car until I had the air con on. I'm looking forward to some rain, but it's been forecast for tomorrow

Chewbacca Tue 19-Jul-22 18:24:36

37 degrees in a North facing room with the blinds drawn. It was 42 in the car earlier and I had to put some leather gloves on to touch the steering wheel.

Elusivebutterfly Tue 19-Jul-22 16:34:55

I'm in the south east and 37 degrees here. It's noticeably hotter than yesterday and no signs of cooling.
There's two grass fires only a couple of miles from me which we don't expect in England.

karmalady Tue 19-Jul-22 16:26:47

I heard that more than 20 areas have reached 40 today

That rain!! huh, it was 2 drops on my window. It is still hot but not killing me now

I heard that this could be a one in ten year event but who knows. It is not not worth spending good money on devices to cope with the worst heat. How many people have looked up air con? A big hole in the wall, no thanks, not for a few days of discomfort

Kim19 Tue 19-Jul-22 16:26:29

I love it but normality is apparently returning tomorrow. Perhaps we'll have a change of news drama.

Daisymae Tue 19-Jul-22 16:22:57

35C here with it not falling below 20C tonight.

Callistemon21 Tue 19-Jul-22 16:22:39

welbeck ?

I will Google the news

Antonia Tue 19-Jul-22 16:21:48

The wind is getting up here in North Yorkshire but it's still in scorchio territory.

Callistemon21 Tue 19-Jul-22 16:19:54

It's raining here, we didn't notice and the towels are still out on the line! ?

Honeysuckleberries ?
My tablet tells me it's half that temperature here although I think it's still very warm and stuffy.

Honeysuckleberries Tue 19-Jul-22 16:00:17

Near Heathrow and my indoor thermometer by the front door says 42degrees.

Thank god me and my cats are flaked out in room with air conditioning.

Grannybags Tue 19-Jul-22 15:53:44

Was just getting jealous about the rain when it started here. I hope it clears the air so we can get back to a 'normal' summer

Bath/Bristol area

JaneJudge

All the hot people in the hot areas have turned into Martin Goodman in Friday NightDinner and are bloody boiling
I bet

Shit a brick ?
Nice bit of squirrel ?
As you can see I’m a huge fan.
