Perhaps just keep reading some different threads to get a feel of GN, before launching in. When it feels a bit more familiar, select a topic and either respond or start a new one.

I think many of us on GN are not on the internet all day, we just dip in and out.

I dip in and out during the day depending on what I am doing. Some of the Grans have also had meet ups.

I have been meeting 3 GNs for coffee locally for around 5 years now. We come from all walks of life but get on extremely well.

This was a life-saver during the difficult days I had selling my house in East London and moving 160 miles away to a flat in Weston super Mare. The support I received during some dark times then helped me get through that, sharing experiences and staying in touch, through that thread of carrying out work on that flat has been wonderful.

At present I am confined indoors with 'the lurgy', not able to attend any groups, or seeing anybody - once again I am so appreciative of this network.

There are so very many threads, have fun reading through many of them, going back in time with them. You will get to know the people on here, not necessarily agreeing with all they write, but that is part of the fun.

Hi GrannyB55 - yes, it is an open forum and posts can be found by anyone browsing the internet, if they manage to put in the correct search terms. However, if you want to start a new thead, you could first choose a title that would not give any details away. It has been suggested that if writing about family, change ages/genders slightly. However, you might need to keep a note of what you've written and be consistent!

When I joined I thought I might post about some of my own grandparenting issues, but I learnt enough by reading other posts and have only started a new thread a couple of times - on some kind of general issue such as gardening!

Hello and welcome I joined when my twin grandchildren were born six years ago now. I have found this site to be very good for advice and support.
I have lol when reading a difference of opinion about a subject. Some of the discussions can get quite heated to say the least.
When a member posts wanting advice about a problem some of the responses have been truly lovely and supportive.

Welcome to Gransnet. I hope you will find support and friendship here albeit at a distance. I am usually (though not every day) in Soop's kitchen. They are wonderful people there.The Good Morning thread is also a friendly place. I have also received lots of comfort and tips regarding Ddog in the pets forum.
