The Gas Man Cometh

I got a smart meter only so I wouldn’t have to move half the sitting room around every time they needed to read it.
I didn’t want the thing which tells you how much it’s costing every time you switch something on. I’m careful and only use what’s necessary, so I’ve never opened the box they gave me. You don’t have to use it.

No desire for a smart meter. Won’t have one until I am forced to.

Me neither, as I’m pretty circumspect about my usage. The only thing that I don’t skimp on is heating in winter.

karmalady what a palaver for you.
Often too it is a case of The Gasman Does Not Cometh, even when you wait in for hours for him.

My comment was to Mawthe Merrier

That is good, as life has become more expensive in many ways this year.

That is very annoying for you MawtheMerrier and expensive too.
We had a smart meter fitted with no boiler problems but of course they do need to turn everything off for an hour or so while they complete the work for safety reasons.
The second generation as they call it, of smart meters are now compatible with different suppliers.

my gas smart meter might be compatible but octopus sent an engineer, it just needs a part and there is no room to fit it, so that is that. I asked them to send a meter reader every month as my gas meter is a couple of inches above the soil. They will be starting that on 29th. I have an electric smart meter which is sending readings but no moniror. They cannot get hold of monitors due to supply problems

Fortunately I’m on a contract so it won’t cost me anything - glad to get something back for all the payments I have made over the years!

We had a smart meter fitted years ago by one company. When we changed to another company we were told it wasn’t compatible. Now we are with yet another company suddenly it works again!
What a palaver.

Apparently the circuit board has gone.
I remember we had one replaced about 6/7 years ago and it was pretty expensive. Seems we were ripped off as today the engineer was quoted £179.00 plus 2 hours Labour to include fetching it (in stock) and fitting but Corgi Homecare prefer to deal with the manufacturer so, it may be a few days.
Just as well it is not the depths of winter and I can use an immersion heater for water for a shower.
Feel weary though. What next?(don’t answer that!)

I am with octopus too I can't remember anything being switched off ... may be wrong though, can't understand why things didn't work after, should contact who you had it installed by , also as far as I know , no corgi engineers, think now gas safe ... saying that need it sorted ASAP ... could you contact the gas as an emergency & explain what has happened, hopefully should come out asap, this may be the safest option due to the gas ...

Maw I have had a smart meter for 3 years and I do not remember all that palaver, I am with Octopus and it was done and dusted within a couple of hours and I do not remember anything being turned off but with many birdbrain it may have been different!

Oh no!

We had a smart meter fitted last week, all well so far ?

Was it just the pilot light? Do boilers have pilot lights now?

So, this morning my long-awaited Smart meter was being fitted. Hurray!
Of course the gas and electricity had to go off which was a bore because my iPad had run out of juice so I couldn’t charge it.
No radio or coffee and as it’s a dull morning I couldn’t t even make much progress with the jigsaw.
However all would be worth it once I started saving ££££ by more economical energy usage
Everything was turned back on - only nothing happened with the boiler which seemed to be dead (that will cut down on my gas consumption)
Next a phone call to the Corgi contract people for an engineer to come out to fix the boiler.
I daren’t switch a light on in case they all go off as well!
Carpenters and painters, form an orderly queue.
