“That’ll see me out”

One of my father’s favourite phrases, whether applied to a suit, coat, lawnmower or camera!
Today I took delivery of a new coat (White Stuff sale, £60 off) and found myself thinking just that. So what else will “see me out” ?
Is Rosie to be my last dog, am I on my last cooker/ fridge/ sofas / dining table etc?
Obviously not my washing machine or dishwasher - they will conk out the minute I feel a bit short of money and the car… who knows but I do hope I might run to an EV in a couple of years.
What will “see you out” ?

timetogo2016 Mon 25-Jul-22 23:14:43

I say the opposite.
I will out live the fresh fruit and veg for sure,oh and the sliced bread,cheese,crisps/and nice crusty cobs.

Ok heck maw, I hadn’t realised that the White Stuff sale had started, you’re a very bad influence! Lovely coat by the way! smile

Our stash of pens and pencils, envelopes and notepads accumulated from years in admin/office work will definitely see us out.

A cat wouldn't give DH any joy at all!
We decided not to have another dog because we spent long periods in Australia and now we're too old to give a dog the walks it might need.
Borrowing the DGD (darling grand-dog) will have to suffice!

I do like that coat ...

My dearest friend used to get annoyed when her mother said "that will see me out".
Sadly, her mother saw her out ?

Grammaretto Mon 25-Jul-22 19:59:46

GagaJo smile that's lovely really.
DH was given some new nightshirts and an atomiser, anything to ease him and give him comfort.

Very sadly, my last gift to my mum was a soft silicone ring to sit on, to try to make her a bit more comfortable. Not a happy gift, although we did at least reminisce about the last time she had to sit on one, after having my brother, to ease her episiotomy stitches.

I do understand with dogs, because they are a big commitment, but I don’t understand why people are depriving themselves of the joy of having cats as they get older. My parents have a rescue cat, she is about 7 now, and my parents are in their nineties. She brings so much joy into their lives. If they were to go into care or die before she does, one of the family will take her on, we discussed that when they got her - no mean feat because she bites! The rescue centres have so many cats, and cats hate being there, that they are happy to find a home for them, age isn’t a barrier.

My current wardrobe.

Nice new coat Maw
I never think of anything seeing me out but then I try to live each day as though it's my last and that I shall live forever.
My DMiL is 97 and hasn't stopped wanting new things but I notice she has stopped wearing high heels......

SueDonim Mon 25-Jul-22 18:56:25

I don’t take that attitude at all. Life’s for living!

The husband of a good friend was always very ‘this’ll see me out’. He said just that when they bought a new three piece suite. He then had to go into a care home and within weeks my friend had got rid of the three piece suite and replaced it with something she liked much more. grin

It's a terrible phrase, made even more terrible by the reality!

I bought a new bed around 17 years ago and now at nearly 68 if I buy another soon it could well see me out shock

Indeed. Pretty much everything bar perishable goods will see me out !

Is that coat orange or red ?

Mine?
Navy with a red and teal overcheck.
Or the reversible one?
That looks like orange. (Currently on offer on eBay for £50)

Well I’ve just ordered new glasses , the ones I have are really ok , but dated
I wanted a nicer model, so I hope I get the wear out of them
I’m 85 next birthday , mobility isn’t great , but it’s no reason to skimp on something I will use , I don’t wear out my shoes , so that’s a saving ?

We used to know an old Scottish lady, she was magnificent. She was in her nineties, but there was nothing she wouldn’t have a go at.

When she announced she was having a very smart new kitchen, we must have looked a bit surprised, but she said she didn’t want anyone turning their noses up at her wake.

Oh, tell me about it.
I have been thinking very seriously about turning my dining room into a bedroom for me so that I am self contained on one floor but keep thinking ,is it worth it?
I turned 85 two weeks ago.
I have fairly shabby couches, again is it worth it.
It is actually a depressing situation.
Anyone who can go for anything and know they can should go for it, whether clothing, furniture of white goods.
You may well see them out and get to replace them.

Do It,it is worth it. A downstairs bedroom always comes in handy even if you never use it it is peace of mind. Do it now when you can be bothered to think about it. My mum had a bungalow so never had to bother about getting upstairs on crutches etc.
Her friend changed a downstairs room and never had to move she was always living beside relations and friends.
Good Luck with it and make it nice for yourself.flowers

lemsip Mon 25-Jul-22 17:01:40

i do think twice before spending large sums of money on 'things'.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 25-Jul-22 16:48:39

Nice coat.
Our cats are now 12 years old. OH said when we got them that they’d be our last cats!
We are spending a fortune on decorating a lot of the house! Will it see us out? Who knows.

Doodledog Mon 25-Jul-22 16:45:01

I shall think of you when wearing it, Marydoll grin. Thanks again.

Doodledog, I find that White Stuff are true to size.
I didn't pay the full price, but you certainly got a better bargain than me.
I love that coat!

Dare I tell you that I got a further 20% off? I got it for £41.95 including delivery grin.

A woman after my own heart!

I always managed to find voucher codes for Otrium.
Now you have forced me to have another look, when I have already spent a fortune this month!

I spent £50 on my last order, the original price of the clothes, I bought, was £375!

Hellogirl1 Mon 25-Jul-22 16:39:27

When Mia died last year I said we weren`t having any more cats as I was almost 78 then. But we saw Billy, who was almost 12 years old, and fell in love with him. If he does see me out, one of Lynne`s carers can`t wait to adopt him, so I know he`ll be alright. When it comes to things for the house, if I really want it, and can afford it, I`ll buy it, whether it`ll see me out or not.

Blossoming Mon 25-Jul-22 16:39:05

Marydoll Mr. B is 4 years younger than me so it may not be his last grin

Doodledog bargain!
