My dad told me, "Start as you mean to go on." Sounds easy but sometimes you start without necessarily knowing how you mean to go on. Then you might have to start again.

My dad, upon meeting my now husband for the 1st time. "He's a good lad him. Don't you ever let him go!" He was right, and I didn't let him go. One of my greatest regrets is, that my dad didn't live long enough to see us get married. ?

Not so much advice, but just talking my huge, gigantic problems through with my mum, would shrink them to pocket size. I really miss her.

my gran said to me to remember if it's for you it won't go by you (english version rather than glasgow), i think that is why i don't get upset about the things i can't change, i have had cancer twice, i never got angry about it, nothing would change even if i did. no matter how bad things have got over the years i have always just got on with it.

My mother's stock phrase when either my brother or I were worried about anything was "Life's too short to ......... (add in whatever the worry was) and, in her case, it sadly proved very true. She was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at 59 and died far too young.

Advice from a much missed god-mother :

"Better to be an old man's darling than a young man's fool".

Sadly, I failed to take it.

Not sure it was the best advice, but my GM often said
"Never explain and never apologise". She pretty much lived by that.

My lovely mum said two things that I have tried to live by when I got married she said always keep some money in your own bank account and the one quoted here if you can't say anything nice keep quiet.

My driving instructor always said 'if in doubt, don't'. I still say this to myself when thinking of overtaking etc and it's stood me in good stead.

When I passed my driving test a friend's husband said 'Always remember you have a brake'. Never forgotten those words.

Always trust your gut feelings.
Break down big jobs into smaller chunks to make them more manageable.

Someone said to me when I was pregnant.......... Imagine how you think things will be when you've had the baby and then accept it will be absolutely nothing like that!!
