There are a few words that (a) always set me off giggling and possibly only one that (b) always make me cringe.
(a) moist ( tiny squeak) , gusset( chortle), flange ( lost it altogether) .
(b) cu*t. cant even believe I've typed that.

What are yours?

Gusset for me is a cross between a cringe and a snigger

Turning OP,on its head, how about words one likes ?

I love “squadron “. Very sexy. (Squadron leader even better)

My old uncle is a retired Squadron Leader.

All of the above plus fur babies, rainbow bridge, iconic, lovely as a form of address, hun, cutch,
That’ll do for now.

Pus, knickers, crotch. They're all yucky words - don't much like the word "yucky" either.

Topping !
Why ?
I hate the word .
Ditto for afters and lounge !

There are many very beautiful words though !

The word I cannot stand is the one starting with H that means heavy bleeding. The aversion goes back to when I miscarried and my nosey maiden Aunt appeared the following morning and asked me 'Are you still H******ing. Yuk, yuk, yuck.

Belly and panties.

I’m Granny. To me, Grandma sounds even older - and fat!

Me too it's the Trossachs lol

I’m in Durham. Not heard lisk or oxter used for ages, but I know what and where they are.

Nan for grandmother was mentioned above. I am Nan. With apologies to all the grannies, Granny makes me cringe. I think of a 100 year old woman, hair in a bun, glasses perched on the end of her nose, wearing a shawl and knitting.

I’m with you Kate1949 I’m a Nan or Nanna. Granny or Grandma makes me think of Little Red Riding Hood.
By the way you forgot the false teeth in the glass by the side of the bed ?

next time any of us on this thread is playing scrabble we should try to use as many of our words here as possible. maybe a game could be exclusively for the use of words that make you snigger or cringe. bet no one would get to the end of their letters - think we would all have died laughing or cringing or both well before that !

Can't bear any of those; they all make me shudder. But just hearing the name Fanny has me sniggering like a 5 year old school boy!

My Great-Great Grandmother was called Fanny on all documents except her birth and weddings certificates where her name was revealed as the more posh Frances.

Belly
Panties
Moist
Fur baby (just ridiculous!)
Grandbaby
Grandkids
Hubby

Oh dear, I sound very impatient!

Yes, but in a bus? wink

Well, that would offer some protection from the midges, but most others would have been walking.grin

My mother refused to be called granny and insisted on grandma. I chose to be granny because I thought it sounded younger and liable to be a bit naughty. Grandma always sounds rather elderly and severe.

The one tht is really annoying me at the moment is BabyDaddy. Often used if the couple aren't married. What is so difficult about calling him the baby's father?

MissAdventure Thu 28-Jul-22 20:54:07

Yes, but in a bus? wink

Baggytrazzas Thu 28-Jul-22 20:53:49

trick is to avoid the midges
