Swimming costumes

I agree with the more practical one for aquarobics.

I like the look of those ones too, that retro style is appealing.

I like the type which cover the tops of the legs, a bit like shorts. The others I find show too much (particularly after my semi abusive husband commented on the fact, but that’s another story). I think I like them because they look a bit 1930s. I have a picture of my grandfather wearing something similar. I used to do a lot of swimming 50 plus per session, but now have shoulder problems and am awaiting a shoulder operation so can’t go at the moment. Looking forward to when I can!

I go to aquacise classes, and my swimsuits are racer back or cross straps.

They are bought with practicality in mind, not for fashion or sunbathing,

Not on everyone they didn't.

Next (online) have some lovely ones, some are ‘Tummy control’ swimsuits, nice shaped front and low ish backs. Cost between £28-30.

The higher backed ones are usually described as racer or fast back and are technical and designed to swim in. The scooped back ones are in the main fashion costumes.

I prefer costumes with a lower back, nothing excessive. I have quite a short back and find the high back ones very uncomfortable and they cut into my arm pits.

HI, I haven't needed to buy one for around 10 years but of the three I still have these all have low backs. I think it must be fashion, as Chewbacca points out.

Who sees a tanned back anyway (especially at our age)?. Less chance of a skin cancer with a higher back so probably a good thing really.

I wouldn't want one with a low swooping back........the shoulders straps wouldn't stay in place. I prefer a 'racer-back', much more practical for swimming in.

I have never had a swimming costume with a low swooping u-shaped back.

Why do swimming costumes all have such a high back these days? I can’t find any that don’t go straight across my back by my shoulder blades. Years ago they came with a lovely low swooping U shaped back, what’s happened??
