Which Deodorant is best, I use Sure invisible aqua for anti-white marks and yellow stains but still find yellowing happening. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

AngBrew, as I said upthread, I have the same problem with yellow stains, and I also mentioned that I had tried a zero aluminium deodorant (Bionsen) without success - I didn't use it long enough to find out if it would solve the staining problem, because I was smelling of BO by the end of the day when i had used it.

However, this thread prompted me to try some others, and I thought I would share my findings with you.

I went to Savers and bought two products: Faith in Nature (green tea and aloe Vera natural deodorant), and S&G zero aluminium anti-persparant deodorant.

I have to say, I am finding them both good, and they only cost £1 each.
Neither totally stops me from sweating, but nor have any anti-perspirants that I've ever used in the past, but I can honestly say that I am still BO free after using them.

Only time will show whether no aluminium really does mean no new yellow staining, but I am hopeful.

I use the cheapest anti perspirant spray from Tesco. Not every day as I don’t seem to sweat and don’t smell even if I don’t put it on. Only a quick spray also.

Never see any marks on my clothes.

I stopped using deodorant in lockdown as I thought I am not in close contact with anyone, but I once caught a whiff from inside my (otherwise clean) tee shirt and promptly started using it again!

So did I when I retired. Just recently I’ve started wearing really loose fitting t shirts instead of the tighter fitting ones that I’ve always worn. I don’t know why I’ve never thought of doing that before.

I've use a solid crystal deodourant for years. You just wet it and rub it under your armpits, let is air dry. No sweaty smells and no perfume which I prefer. You can get them from Holland and Barrett. They're not cheap but one will last several years unless you drop it and break the crystal.

I’m 75, still sweat a lot and use an aluminium free deodorant as well as daily showers etc.
I have a friend the same age as me who tells me she stopped using deodorant after the scare about aluminium in deodorants.
She says in any case she doesn’t sweat and showers every day before she goes to bed so doesn’t need deodorant. However she has a huge BO problem which everyone at our WI and other social groups has noticed. Someone was brave enough to mention this problem to her and it did slightly improve for a while but sadly its back again. I did suggest she tried the aluminium deodorants when she asked me if I could smell BO on her.

So yes it is fear rather than habit that keeps me using deodorant long after having gone through the menopause.

I have underactive thyroid so I sweat less in summer just a deodorant is enough and I use nothing in winter. I don’t know if it’s my condition or the medication that makes me swear less

I tend to stick to either Right Guard - blue can spray one or Sure. My mother would always buy a roll-on called MUM. No sure if thats still available. I not a fan of a roll-on but after reading of the Aldi Lacura one I might now try that one, also saw the picture of the Dove Pomegranate one, that sounds good, which DOVE is the only range that my daughter in law ever uses so am thinking of a change but during this very hot weather the 2 I mention keeps me dry and gives me the protection at this particular time and can buy for £1 in Poundland or Savers.

Sanex stick is great . No aluminium

I think Ive read somewhere that if you make up a solution of vinegar and water and spray the underarm area of your clothes prior to washing , it removes stains and smells ? A cheap fix if it works !

I don’t use spray anti perspirant as it affects my asthma ! I’ve been using Mitchum ladies roll on block for quite a few years now and no staining of clothes .

I use a salt deodorant - 'Salt of the Earth'. Dampen then end and wipe it on, or wipe it over damp skin after a bath.

It doesn't contain aluminium and it is non-toxic. The salt prevents bacteria from producing smells. It is an absolutely wonderful product.

Try Right Guard black and white, no white marks. I have been using this for a while now and it works. No white marks or yellowing and its great at keeping me dry all day. Its not expensive either and its usually on offer somewhere. I bought a new one today from Wilko and it was half price at £1.60.

Lucca

Mitchum without a doubt

Yes, definitely Mitchum roll on is the best I’ve ever used

I’m not a sweater, haven’t used any sort of deodorant for years. A daily shower and a little talc is good for me. I’m sure I’d have been told if I was whiffy!

Liz46 Fri 05-Aug-22 17:16:37

Like a couple of other posters I use a crystal stick so no aluminium or spray.

One of my daughters bought me one in a cork case so no plastic either.

Skomer Fri 05-Aug-22 16:42:11

I am 14 years into the menopause and the hot flushes are still as savage as in the beginning.
If I didn’t use an effective antiperspirant I would have sweat dripping out of my arm pits.
Mitchum stick is the most effective I have found, I use the unscented one when I can get it, is hard to find at the moment.

Before had DK I had major perspiration issue almost had nerves at neck severed to stop gushing!! But no odour as I kept clean and fresh daily! Once had babies-problem solved but I always used mitchum even when it was really expensive! No yellowing of clothes again I wash clothes very often to avoid staining.mitchum stops sweat so no stains! Deodorant stops NOTHING!! I always use unperfumed and have real perfume as a choice!not chemical pong concocted by random industry bod!

lizzypopbottle Fri 05-Aug-22 16:26:27

Forlornhope and silverlining48 I'm a member of that club too. I haven't used deodorant or anti-perspirant since menopause. I have very little body hair since that time, too. I suspect a lot of people keep using it out of habit or worrying they will smell if they don't use it. I hardly sweat at all under my arms, unless I've been very active, and I shower after exercise. I certainly don't smell. My family would certainly let me know if I was whiffy.

missdeke Fri 05-Aug-22 16:20:14

Having tried just about every deodorant on the market I came to the conclusion that the chemicals in the products were what was causing the constant irritation. I decided to go vegan and now use Fit Pit vegan deodarant, it's perfect, never irritates and a jar lasts for ages.

LovelyLady Fri 05-Aug-22 16:12:27

I use Mitchum and recall my mother saying everyone sweats and we’re the last to know if we’re smelling. I take no chances, therefore it’s Mitchum roll on, sometimes I use the spray but it empties quicker.
Dove to me smells of old lady.
My husband change brand regularly, sometimes Right Guard or something on offer. He doesn’t like Mitchum. We’re all different xx

I use ProCoal natural deodorant balm which I buy online. It has a pleasant lavender smell, does not cause yellow colouration and is very effective

Baggytrazzas Fri 05-Aug-22 15:39:19

I was wondering if it might be a change of soap powder that was needed? Maybe something biological?
