Photovoltaic panels on the roofs of all industrial buildings, covered car parks, hospitals, farm buildings, etc and photovoltaic slates on domestic property is the way forward. Doesn’t need excessive sunshine, just light will produce power.
Certainly beats filling farmland with panels where growing produce would be more useful.
Very sensible, but needs legislating for and investment. I don't think the government are interested.

I agree, I'm amazed that they are not.
The government seems committed to nuclear power unfortunately.
As any new nuclear won't come on stream for at least a decade, and we need the cheaper, green, energy now, a bit of government investment in PV and water heating panels wouldn't come amiss. It might even be quite popular if it helped people to cut their energy bills .
But the government doesn't do that sort of 'popular', does it?
