Shaded parking?

I haven't seen these anywhere. The solar panels seem like a great idea though. I'm not keen on multi-storey car parks as I don't feel very safe in them.

I havent seen shaded parking anywhere, I would appreciate very much if this were the case as I dont have A/C in my car BUT would it be worth all the cost when the UK heatwave lasts maybe a week ??

There is lots of shaded parking outside shopping centres in Australia but I'm not sure if it has solar panels on top.

It's a good idea and could produce power for the shops or for recharging electric cars.

The airport at Bergerac has solar panels over almost all their car parks. It is great if you are going to pick someone up - they have a short stay which is very close to the terminal too.
I think it is a great idea and would probably pay for itself in a few years. There is a Leclerc supermarket at Pinheul which has the panels over the majority of the car park - heaven not getting into a car which has been parked in the sun for an hour.

I have heard of a Park and Ride site planning to install car ports with solar panels on top. They will power the site, local cycle path lighting and car charging. The surplus will go to the nearby hospital. Excellent idea.

Certainly beats filling farmland with panels where growing produce would be more useful.

There is ongoing work at Gateshead Metro Centre to install massive solar panels over the car parks. There will also be an extra 40+ EV charging points.

You are right about not needing sunshine to generate power from solar panels. We recently had panels put on our roof and as I type it is overcast and 12C yet we are generating between 80 & 90% of the power we are using. There should be a lot of power going back into the grid when the warmer sunnier weather arrives.

I was driving recently in Italy and noticed all the autostrada service stations had solar panels providing shade for parked cars. I think it's a great idea.

I agree, I'm amazed that they are not.

The government seems committed to nuclear power unfortunately.

When we lived in very hot countries, we had fabric ‘gloves’ for our steering wheels. If you couldn’t park in the shade, you couldn’t touch the steering wheel otherwise.

I think it’s a great idea, particularly at transit hubs, workplaces and hospitals.
We’ve used Bergerac airport many times Welshwife I remember when the shades were put up.

The government seems committed to nuclear power unfortunately.

As any new nuclear won't come on stream for at least a decade, and we need the cheaper, green, energy now, a bit of government investment in PV and water heating panels wouldn't come amiss. It might even be quite popular if it helped people to cut their energy bills .

But the government doesn't do that sort of 'popular', does it?

P.S Isn't the EU about to mandate solar panels on all new build housing?
