So sorry to hear about your friends Ann, it is indeed hard to listen to such talk when there is nothing you can do to change the situation. I’m sure your phone calls are appreciated, although it may not feel like it right now. You are supporting your friends in the only way you can. flowers

soop Wed 21-Sept-22 11:50:39

Dear ann, our posts crossed. I can feel your pain. Sixty years is a very long time of shared memories with your good friends. Sadly, it appears that your friend has possibly not "given up" but is beginning to lose interest. Her tiredness could be down to a deep-seated depression. Her husband needs a comforting arm around his shoulders. You can only do so much. Your phone calls matter. I totally understand why you are needing to offload your anxiety. Please remember that we are here for each other not only through the happy-clappy times but when a listening ear is a means whereby we may share the sad and lonely side of life. flowers

GrannySomerset Wed 21-Sept-22 11:40:18

My sympathies, ann, I have two friends of very long standing who are very unwell and giving up on life and I have to make myself contact them because I do know they value it but never initiate contact themselves. It is indeed draining and frankly I have had enough death for this year!

But we’re still here and grateful for it, and the odd moan on GN is not unreasonable.

soop Wed 21-Sept-22 11:36:45

Hello again to you lovely lot.

Hair trimmed and now we are back home, and a pet portrait is waiting for me to apply the first wash.

Good news regarding your knee operation, corner. Trusting that your blood test and your husband's two appointments are equally satisfactory.

muse I am sending premium vibes for a successful outcome regarding your daughter's "dream job". flowers

Our neighbour is due to call in for a blether and coffee any time soon. Not a sunny day but mildish and dry. I shall return to our kitchen later today.

annsixty Wed 21-Sept-22 11:29:44

Good morning all from a depressed/distressed annsixty.
I have just rung some friends of very long standing, 60+ years.
They have slowly “gone down hill” for a few years now and frankly it is a huge effort to get in touch now as they bring me right down.
They never now ring me.
This morning the H answered the phone in such a feeble voice I could hardly hear him.
On asking how they were he just said, terrible and that was it.
I got out of him that he had just put his wife back to bed and when I asked what was wrong he said old age and she is just worn out.
She is 78 and I feel that they are giving up.
Last year I offered to visit and stay in a local hotel .
She just changed the subject
Apparently she doesn’t want to see anybody.
It has left me so upset but I accept I can do nothing .
Sorry for yet another moan but I had to get it off my chest.
I will now try to do something that will lighten my mood.

Good Evening Kitcheners.
Many fingers crossed for lots of you.
Excellent news cornergran and hope MrC's appointments are not too stressful.
Lovely to see you Grandmabatty Hope you get a good night's sleep.

The continuing good weather in mid Cornwall has made it possible for MrM to make progress with trench digging. He has managed to get some of the newly laid slabs up for the last part of the trench. Openreach will have it all ready for when they put the fibre cable through next week. MrM's skilful digging has saved us £100s.

My DD has had a successful first interview today for what she says is her ideal job. In other words, a job where she can really show off her design skills with the added advantage of working totally at home. 2nd interview on it's way - she just needs the date. Looking forward to her visit at the end of the month. DGD is going to look around Falmouth Uni. We will have an early 18th birthday celebration for DGD. We won't see them again until next year.

Very tired tonight as the raised beds had a good clear out this afternoon. That will be the last time I attempt to grow sweet corn. Despite advice from all quarters, I have failed again, or rather something is making me fail. Not sure if it's an insect or four legged creature.

Fingers crossed here too Charleygirl. Today was a good sign that we could get that Indian summer.

Charleygirl5 Tue 20-Sept-22 22:34:34

corner that is excellent news re your knee. I hope Mr C passes with flying colours tomorrow and your blood tests are okay.

Autumn has definitely arrived-I suppose it would be too much to ask for a short Indian summer?

dustyangel Tue 20-Sept-22 22:00:20

Echoing Charleygirl’s post. I was so impressed with the children’s behaviour. My tears of the previous week had miraculously dried up, that was until the evening when I happened to see a photo of the Princess of Wales placing a consoling hand on Prince George’s knee when he had a wobbly moment. In fact I’ve since seen several photographs of members of the royal family placing consoling hands on each others children. As indeed happens with all our families if we’re lucky enough to be close to them.
I’m glad you’re back Grandmabatty. I hope everything is more settled within your own family.

Blossoming Tue 20-Sept-22 21:56:15

Good news Cornergran.

Jaxjacky Tue 20-Sept-22 21:55:52

Hi alcove, welcome back Grandmabatty you’ve been missed, may your troubles have eased.
Holiday sounds fab BladeAnnie I’d like to do the broads again, is the heating on the boat good?
Excellent news corner I hope others awaiting test results are equally cheered.
We’ve just been to a quiz night with my son and his girlfriend, nowhere near winning, but thoroughly enjoyable, our friend comes with us, so an age range of 28-75.
Night all x

brook2704 Tue 20-Sept-22 21:32:00

Good news cornergran and hoping all goes well tomorrow too

cornergran Tue 20-Sept-22 21:06:49

Hello everyone. Yes, the knee passed with first class honours. Surgeon was both smug and impressed when I reported I can and do kneel down. Had been sent the feedback form before the appointment barmey, I’ll pm you with the location/surgeon information, don’t want to bore folk rigid.

Good to see you grandmabatty.

Medical week this week. Mr C has not one but two appointments tomorrow and I have a blood test. Think we’re responsible for a very large drain on NHS resources.

‘Evening All’

We took my stepfather food shopping late morning. He was delighted to fill up his fridge/freezer.

I’ve just come off the phone - our Yorkshire Lass rang me and we’ve had a lovely long catch up. I haven’t seen her since Ibiza in June. We decided we ‘love one another in the abstract’ ha!

Himself is out. He’s taken the Boy Wonder to football training. At least it’s dry and quite mild actually. He’s a good grandad. We help out a bit when we’re home it makes up for us being selfishly abroad half of the year hehe!

Beef burgers and fried onions when he gets home, in half an hour.

brook2704 Tue 20-Sept-22 17:10:43

A very big welcome back grandmabatty lovely to see you and hoping the family troubles are a bit easier now, or easier to cope with anyhow
It’s been quite a nice day here in Inverness, even the sun came out briefly and I even took my coat off in the garden .
I’ve been busy all day but not much to show for it - it happens quite often. DD2 phoned for a chat at lunchtime though so that was nice to hear from her.
Hoping you’ve not got caught covid Annsixty fingers crossed for you
One of our best family holidays when the children were little was on the Norfolk Broads BA, they still talk about it to this day!
Hope the bruise goes quickly Shazza and no need to apologise for anything. ❤️ for your special grandson
Fingers firmly crossed for good results Blossoming

Good Afternoon everyone.
Nice to have you back Blade Annie and Grandmabatty
We returned home on Sunday evening after a lovely relaxing week.I enjoyed watching the funeral, very proud to be British.
Lots of washing done today, we will be going to Derbyshire on Thursday, looking after DS2’s cats while they have a well earned few days away.
Have a good evening everyone hugs to all.

Bellanonna Tue 20-Sept-22 17:06:52

I agree with Charleygirl about the royal children’s behaviour. Proud parents indeed.
What a wonderful pageant accompanied the sad day. I don’t think anyone will ever see its like again. Perfect timing, obviously lots of meticulous training to get everything so right.

I’m only just catching up with several pages of posts, so somewhat belatedly I’m really laughing at your laundry episode GG, and at the same time empathising like many of us I imagine!
Ann fingers crossed that your test (do take one) will be negative and that you continue to feel well.
Barmey I liked your comment that you met DH after his Pilates class. Now that is impressive. We have just one male in our class. I suppose they just prefer sweating it out in the gym.
Enjoy the rest of your evenings.

soop Tue 20-Sept-22 16:59:00

A warm welcome back Grandmabatty. You have been missed.

The sketch completed of a puppy dog. One eye is posing a problem. I shall need to correct the sketch before I commit to the first watercolour wash. There is invariably a hitch to begin with.

An early hair appointment tomorrow. A trim is required to maintain some semblance of style. Then a Tesco shop. After which, our neighbour is calling in for catch-up and coffee.

I shall be with you in our kitchen at some time in the afternoon.

Take great care of yourselves. smile moon

BladeAnnie Tue 20-Sept-22 16:42:48

Afternoon dear kitcheners. We are still enjoying the Norfolk Broads ??. Yesterday we didn't leave our mooring spot and watched full coverage of the funeral. I'm not ashamed to say we both shed a few tears. RIP Queen Elizabeth ?❤️. Hugs to everyone ?

ShazzaKanazza Tue 20-Sept-22 16:34:10

I have the biggest bruise on the inside of my arm from blood tests last week I’ve never bruised like that and I’m away on Sunday on hols so would love it gone. My mum gave me some rather ancient looking arnica gel but any other tips would be appreciated I’d love it gone but it’s very black.

ShazzaKanazza Tue 20-Sept-22 16:29:48

Good afternoon lovely Kitcheners. I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while it’s been very busy so I’m sorry I haven’t had a chance to catch up with all your news. Afternoons are generally busy now. We have had a few difficult times with our precious autistic grandson so not been feeling the best.

It’s good to see Grandmabatty back again.

The funeral yesterday was wonderful from start to finish. The Queen would be proud of everyone. What a spectacle. I really hope the family can get some time to grieve now.

I might not post often but I do think of you all ?? I try to scroll through when I can. Xx

Blossoming Tue 20-Sept-22 16:09:45

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. Hospital visit went well, even found an accessible parking space. Bloods taken, now to wait for the results. Mr.B’s suspected ingrown toenail turned out to be a tiny spur left on the corner after clipping, which had started digging in painfully. All sorted now, he’s been told his feet are very healthy and in good condition. Wish mine were grin

Lovely to see you again BladeAnnie and Grandmabatty.

Grandmabatty Tue 20-Sept-22 16:00:24

Afternoon kitcheners. I've had a few weeks away but decided to post again. Thank you for the personal messages of support. I've been at art class today and finished a couple of pastels but I'm tired as sleep evaded me for a while last night. I hope you are all well.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 20-Sept-22 15:34:55

Where did you have it done Cornergran, I think we live in same area, and my surgeon was indeed snug and marched me over to the desk to fill in my feedback form saying how wonderful it is.

cornergran Tue 20-Sept-22 15:18:36

We thought the same barmey. Or they had a very large breakfast.

Currently bored waiting to see the surgeon for a 12 month review of the new knee. It’s been x-rayed and is definitely there ?. It works too well to not be perfect. I anticipate a very smug surgeon.

Take care everyone. TOYA.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 20-Sept-22 15:14:45

Mr B reckoned that Kate and William had packed lunches for the two children to eat in the car whilst travelling to Windsor
