My to do list is going to include, probably, vertical blinds. (Not everyone's choice, I know)
My living room is starting to look quite dingy; the wood furniture has become dark, and the colours are quite rich.
So, any suggestions of a colour for the blinds?
I had thought of just white, with white flimsy sort of curtains, too, but I'm worried they may show every mark that they'll inevitably get.
Now I'm thinking of a bamboo type, woody looking colour.
Then I could (but don't want to) whitewash the furniture.
Any suggestions?

Goldish.
Gold-ish maybe? To go both with the rug and the sage colour?
A gold that's sunny but not too loud.
I had vertical blinds for years and found them good. They did get dirty and I cleaned them a few times per year. I now have plantation shutters and love them. Easy to clean - mine have a gloss finish and it is just a matter of running a duster over them every now and again. They don't need cleaning any more than the verticals and are easier to clean.
Whatever you decide colour wise will of course be dictated by what is available. Not sure if you can still get them but there used to be verticals with a subdued pattern in a different colour. This made them somewhat less office like.
MissAdventure they are good for dimming as we have large 1960s windows. I chose them as they are narrower I can put things on windowsill
I have louvre blinds upstairs and venetian downstairs. I don't care what it looks like outside.
MissAdventure venetian blinds do get dusty, so more work. We had cream coloured louvre downstairs for a few years They didn't get dirty or discoloured.

That does sound really good.
My flat is very.. erm.. rustic, I suppose you could say.
I'm not sure it could carry off something so smart.
Now I'm thinking of colour combinations!
It'll be like an acid trip in my living room if I'm not careful!
Sorry I didn't respond earlierMissA - I nodded off !
Just a suggestion, going on your rustic theme how about a blend of palest sage green/cream/deep wine red. Or, palest lemon/cream/deep olive green ?
It's always difficult getting furnishing colours right I find and I don't have a natural artistic flair, more's the pity
Sago
Red would be very harsh, if you choose white or an off hate cream it will not compete with the curtains.
Or vibrant if you like things brighter.
I once fitted out a suite with vertical blinds and chose three colours - white, silver and navy.
I'd love that. I can imagine it would look stunning. I'm not sure why Blind sellers don't do more of this.
When we had our blinds fitted, the chap told us of a client who had bought a different colour for each room.
Fine, until you looked at the house from outside.....
That wouldn't bother me. I spend moments pulling up in the drive and then I can only go in a single room at a time but they are in the colour ways I want them. The only other people I would be trying to please are the neighbours who are free to do what they want to their houses and I won't judge them.

I once fitted out a suite with vertical blinds and chose three colours - white, silver and navy. The finished result was stunning. The paler colours were perfect for elegance whilst the navy gave a striking effect and was the strong colour out of the decor overall which pulled it all together. You never know, it might work ?
Oooh, now, there is another good thought.
I think the poor man will have to bring round a lorry full of samples!
I had originally thought of just matching the green curtains, but as I've said, it's all starting to look a bit drab now, and also cluttery.
I also have the worlds busiest rug, in red, gold, green, yellow.
I suppose the rug could go, but I quite like it; hence the idea of whitewashing the furniture.
I've never really had this issue before, i just have what i like and it's always (sort of) gone together.
This is why I'm awake, partly, worrying about the blind situation.
What if I had a red colour? I have red bits and pieces in the room.... sigh.

I have sort of sage ish green silky curtains, so do you think I would be better to get white?
I don't want just the blinds there, because the panel and window is so ugly.
I think I'll end up with all different shades of white.
Why don't you go with a different sage ish colour for the blinds. Don't try to match what you have but look to find a contrast, maybe even a darker green.
Thank you all.
You've been really helpful.
There is a lot to think about, so I have to really consider everything.
It may take me another 30 odd years.
I hadn't even thought of two tone. Gulp!!
If you are happy with white walls, which I happen to love, I would tend to go with White blinds. Means you are free to change curtains if you get fed up, and as icanhandthemback points out, the curtains would provide a visual break between any variance in the whites between window and wall. Or you could go two tone to soften the white a bit - I mean white one side, colour on the other side. And try to imagine what they would look like opened, pulled back, and closed as you won't always have a solid covering of colour. It's quite a lot to consider isn't it?
Yes especially if you landed on a pair of overfilled slug like lips....
You might be able to get white blinds with some sage-ish green on them or maybe get sage-ish green blinds with white curtains. Or keep the sage-ish green curtains and get white blinds. The curtains will provide a break between the whites if they are slightly different shades.
Can you imagine wavering around on a ladder with a face like that?
I suppose I might bounce back up if I fell off, at least.

maybe try to get the repairs around the windows done before the blind is fitted, if that is possible?
please just pay up and enjoy sitting back.Oi!

You omitted your tats, lip filler and eyebrows. Lol

White will work.
So, jokes aside, any colour suggestions?
My walls are white, after years of magnolia, so I'm a bit loathe to have beige (and I have no grey at all in my living room)

Thank you.
That's what I need to do - just grit my teeth and pay up for a decent job.
There is a blind man (!) in my area, who is highly recommended.
When we downsize my husband says no more DIY. I can't wait!
My friend was having a nice cool bath when she heard someone at the door. "Who's there?" She called. "It's just me, the blind man," came the reply. "Come on in," she said - and you know what's coming next. ? I'll get my coat.
I would definitely go local as it's easier to sort any problems. I have vertical blinds and next door have the zebra ones. I quite like them
