Is this a thing now in impoverished Britain

I’m sitting on my patio just thinking about how dull the slabs are.
The Times has come to my rescue. Outdoor rugs!! Who knew they were a thing? The one I like is only £640.78. I don’t think it’s big enough though, I’ll have to have 2.

I think we're all entitled to a bit of boggling. When I see someone wearing a dress that cost thousands of pounds I boggle.
I'm sure lots of us do.

nandalot I am still out here but I’ve got the radio on. No tinkling of the keys in this garden I’m afraid.

Thank you twinnytwin , it was tongue in cheek , perhaps there should be an emoji to indicate that?

I do own up to typing mind boggling. I agree that anyone is entitled to buy whatever they like as long as I am entitled to a bit of boggling if I like. ? couldn’t see a suitable emoji so decided to show you all how I’m feeling at the moment.

My eyes are playing up today, PamelaJ1. I read that you were sitting on your piano.

I bought one last year under £100, round grey Aztec type print. Completely waterproof, yes you can hose down too, but tbh didn't need to last year.
Recommended it, makes the floor less hot especially when GC are out running around.

Yes, Prentice, dogs can be very fussy and a nice mat makes the patio more comfortable for them. I sometimes use cut off pieces from carpets and place them under the parasol so he gets the message. (He'll be demanding an ice cream next!)

Baggytrazzas Pamela said it was mind-boggling.

Yes I read that comment.

PamelaJ1, if I lived in an area that was very dry or had a large covered balcony for example, I would love an outdoor rug.

If I was asked to help anyone decide on what to buy, I'd always suggest buying the best quality that you could afford at the time, and then enjoy it. I think its the overall value that matters most rather than only the initial price.

I hope you find something lovely for your garden. smile

What a shame that the OP started a light hearted thread that has been taken over by righteous judgmental few. I took her comment to be tongue in cheek, especially due to the title of her thread. No wonder many of us don't bother to start threads or comment.

Baggytrazzas Sat 13-Aug-22 12:11:09

getting back to the OP, people are allowed to spend their money on whatever they wish.

I'd pay £10 for a cold hosing down today tbh, will i get vilified too? grin

Not at all, I'd be joining you!

JenniferEccles Fri 12-Aug-22 14:15:38
Whatever you do don’t talk about hosing down an outdoor rug or mat or you will get vilified by some as happened on another thread !

Hi Zoejory and JaneJudge, if you'd care to step onto my doormat, I could hose you down and the run off would wash my mat and then run off onto my plants.... No need for you to pay anything, as I would be using the same amount of water, nothing extra.

Could use some of that fake grass, too. I think it is fairly cheap.

I noticed a stack of them in the plant section in Tesco yesterday. Large size approx 8x6ft. They were reduced to £20 but I didn’t see any takers.

thank you for this information, we will look in our local Tesco.
a colourful mat will certainly improve the look of our small patio area and be comfortable for the dog too.

We have one £8 for the ground outside motorhome.

Richmond1 we managed for thousand s of years with out plastic protective clothing in hospitals, disposable needles, inside baathrooms and centralheating. that is no reason from stopping us have them now.

Faberge eggs are very beautiful, but totally useless.

People shouldn't need crumbs from the tables of those who get a feel good buzz from charitable works, donations and philanthropy.

What a nasty tjing to say, to suggest that those who are fortunate and do all they can to help others less fortunate do it because they '^get a feel good buzz^

How do you know that is why they do it. Envy people when they have more money than you and then dis them, when they use it to help other people. Contemptible.

M0nica You have misquoted me here. I didn't write the 'crumbs from the tables' post so if your contempt was aimed at me it was misplaced.

My actual post wasn't saying we shouldn't have useless things if they benefit us or make us happy, just that there should be some balance and proportion applied based on how this impacts on the environment. Faberge eggs were not made with the intention that they will go to landfill in a year or two. Needles, heating and PPE have huge benefit to humanity and so deliver more than they take. Plastic garden rugs not so much. If people want them, so be it, but there is a cost to the earth that can't be measured in money.

I have worked as a gardener and am aware of how plastic in gardens breaks down overtime and gets into the soil. I am committed in my day to day life to removing plastic from the environment. I spend time each day picking up the disposable tat that people discard and that includes bits of plastic garden flowers/toys/furniture which get into the soil and waterways and end up on our beaches.

Those who can afford things, should buy. Locally if possible to keep the economy moving.

Caleo Sat 13-Aug-22 10:53:11

I applaud your feelings, GrannyG . Me, I don't like show-offs.

I agree that ostentatious living will be very bad taste, if it's not already in bad taste.

If a person/s have earned their money legitimate and paid the approval taxes it is down to them how/what they spend it on.

I do not feel the need to judge them.

Thought I’d send a photo

Perhaps my eyesight’s going, but none of those cost £640?

Sorry Shirley, cut the top off.

Pamela explained that she chopped the top of the pic off…

Either that is the wrong photo or you are mistaken about the price. The ones in the photo are 70, 40 or 29

True, but what Richmond says is still true.

Not everyone who helps does it to get a feel good buzz.

Nannagarra Fri 12-Aug-22 23:20:53

I had hoped my post would put us back on track. Let’s confine it to the desire for garden rugs and be peaceful.

Our financial situations and inclination to help others are unique, up to us to reveal and, for me, private.
I cannot wait to add a rug to the furniture, cushions, table, table cloth, cloth clips, napkins, cutlery, plates, glasses, citronella candles and parasol. NOT.
Nuff’s enough.
For more than a month I’ve been having an enormous clear out and I haven’t finished yet by a long chalk. The less I have, the less I have to look after and clean. My DSs are hugely supporting me, not so their father!
