Who hasn’t had Covid?

A group of people is emerging who seem to be immune to the virus. Neither myself nor Dh have had it - I was on the shielded (hate that word) list but took advantage of all that I could do when restrictions were eased a little. I met people, had meals out, stayed in holiday cottage, went to theatre with Dgc etc. Of course I observed all the distancing/mask wearing/sanitising guidelines - many others have also done this and still caught the bug but Dh and I haven’t. My elder daughter is department head in a local academy and she has never had the virus either. She’s in daily contact with 50 department staff plus 100s of pupils and has avoided it. Dgd has had it, but her mother still hasn’t even with it in her own home.

I was just curious to see how many Gnetters have avoided it.

We haven't had it but I don't think it is very unusual as I believe 15% of the country didn't catch it so far. Fingers tightly crossed.

I haven’t had it (touch wood)

I haven’t but then I avoid crowds and public places and still wear a mask if a shop or place I’m in is crowded

I have had my grandchildren stay with me just prior to testing positive for covid and do school runs too. Have not caught it and they’ve all had it twice. Feel like I’m running the gauntlet though.

I haven't had it, as far as I know. I've had three jabs. I've had a couple of colds and tested negative each time. A nurse told a similarly unaffected friend that he probably has had it but must've been symptomless. Maybe that applies to me too. We both teach karate and many of our school age students (and adults too) have been at class one day then off with the virus a couple of days later. Still we've never knowingly had it....

Like you, I was shielding, but have been far less careful over recent months, attending meetings, socialising and travelling. I have not had the virus

I was wretchedly ill for a couple of days just at the start of the pandemic, before there was any testing available. Later when tests were sent out that could determine whether you had or had not had Covid, mine was negative.

So I assume that the flu-like thing I had at the start of the pandemic was either not Covid, but an "ordinary" flu or was caused by getting wretchedly cold on the way home from a hospital appointment, but I don't know.

In the autumn of 2020 DH and I both had flu vaccinations and the following spring Covid vaccinations as soon as they were available for our age group. We have also had all the available boosters.

Neither before nor after being vaccinated have we been ill.

We have obeyed the various regulations and directives regarding distancing, disinfectants and wearing of masks.

To give a clearer picture it must be said that neither of us have been prone to catching colds or flus in our adult life. This seems to be one of the bonuses of working with children: you build up an immunity to the sniffles and coughs that run round an average school.

I haven’t had it nor anyone in my family has.
I’ve never had flu either.
?

My daughter and Son in law have had it but only one of their 3 girls got it. I was on their bubble but I haven't had it. I've been teed several times, all negative.

Touch wood, neither my husband nor I have had it (Both 70). We strictly followed all the guidelines, had our jabs and booster as soon as we could but socialised when allowed and went abroad last October as soon as restrictions lifted. We have been abroad this year and tested regularly - but luckily nothing. I was even a volunteer at the Women's Euro Final in Wembley Stadium, potentially a real super-spreader event but all fine. A friend, a doctor, mentioned that the BCG jab which we had in our teens may have given our bodies some immunity which wards off viruses - we've never had flu either so i suppose this may be possible. Just wondering...?

I havn't had it nor has my DH. Our DD got it and we were in contact with her prior to her testing positive. The rest of her family ( husband and 2 children) didn't get it either.

sharonarnott Fri 19-Aug-22 12:27:20

How can people be sure they haven't had it? Two of my family had it and didn't even know until they had to do a test. They were classed as asymptomatic and doctors were saying that these types of people were the worry because they wasn't aware they had it and were spreading it going about their business. Obviously they would have self isolated immediately had they known

Theoddbird Fri 19-Aug-22 12:27:20

I haven't had it. There was something on tv about not getting it a while back. Seems as if a good immune system is the key. I never get a cold....haven't had one since the 1980s. Apparently this shows a good immune system. I have a friend who never gets colds and he hasn't had covid either.

Justhavingacuppa Fri 19-Aug-22 12:24:23

I managed to avoid it for 2 years, despite working with lots of young children every day, until this April when I tested positive and was really ill for 2 weeks. My husband hasn’t had it.

mistymitts Fri 19-Aug-22 12:22:35

My DH and I haven’t had it but I would like to add, that it’s quite possible to have had it without knowing, unless you are regularly doing lateral flow tests. Because of this, I would say that most people who ‘haven’t had it’ may well have had it but not felt ill in any way. Also, when I was I’ll, with cough, high temperature and really bad headache, I tested myself several times but only got a negative result. I have heard of people who carried on testing after being ill and only getting a positive result days later after they have recovered. I was also told that if you have had SARS previously you will have some immunity to Covid. I would probably guess that most people have had it but maybe not realised it.

Nicolenet Fri 19-Aug-22 12:21:45

... let's hope immunity carries on for ALL of us xx

Nicolenet Fri 19-Aug-22 12:20:54

My family had it once or twice. I never had it. Neither did my elderly aunt who swears that eating vegetables and soothing throat with salt water help. We all had many vaccine and boosters. Let's hope immunity carries on for most of us.

blueangel Fri 19-Aug-22 12:20:25

I had omicron in December 2021 and the main symptom was a lack of interest in coffee! I'm unvaccinated and will remain that way. I've never had the flu, shingles, pneumonia or any of the other vaccines on offer. However, I spend time and money protecting and enhancing my natural immunity, which is thought to be the gold standard in the fight against bugs.

Fleurpepper Fri 19-Aug-22 12:18:10

AB+ here, and have had Covid twice.

Nanz Fri 19-Aug-22 12:17:57

I have not had Covid. Ive travelled to Canada from Europe twice had both vaccines. But not got it . I am Just keeping up the washing hands lots and staying away from people as much as possible.

HeavenLeigh Fri 19-Aug-22 12:15:40

I’m AB rhesus negative blood group (rare one) No covid and EV

mokryna Fri 19-Aug-22 12:14:55

I don’t think I have.

HeavenLeigh Fri 19-Aug-22 12:14:17

I haven’t had it despite looking after a member of our family that did nor has my husband, I’m clinically vunerable, and what amazes me is my husband was told as due surgery that he must report three lateral flows before he could go ahead with his surgery, obviously he did, had the texts to show the hosp yet not one person asked for them

pat9 Fri 19-Aug-22 12:13:41

I got it but it was over quickly. I am O blood group but I don't know if that means anything

Notthecatsmother Fri 19-Aug-22 12:13:01

I tested positive for 10 days but had no symptoms. I have to test for work otherwise I wouldn't have known
