Cruise and Covid

Just so so wrong. Why would you not wish to name and shame them?

Thinking about it...everyone boarding that cruise, knows that they have not had to provide a negative test, so they are all fully aware of the risks they are taking and are making their own informed decision as to whether it is safe to do so. I have tested postitive again today and will not be going. Getting a refund for my flight, overnight hotel and cruise will be interesting.

I think the cruise line should be named. I woukd not want to travel along side anyone with Covid, who would?, I've not heard of any cruise line that would find this acceotable. I would question the advise given. Something not not right about it.

NCL confirmed today that no covid test results are required, when boarding from Barcelona. Covid passes are required. Additionally Ryanair flights don't require any test results (or masks). Other cruise lines are available!

I can't understand why the OP won't name them either, and I am astonished, I was under the impression that cruise lines required a negative test before you could board.

Why the OP refuses to name the company is beyond my understanding. By doing so she could save lives. Why the reluctance?

You really should name the cruise line. They are endangering the lives of vulnerable passengers. A lot of frail and elderly people go on cruises - please consider that.

Not reporting the Cruise Company, in such circumstances, is bordering on criminal. How will you feel if you read the ship had a massive Covid outbreak and people got seriously sick and some died.

We have both had covid, I was pretty much like everyone else - just a nasty flu-like cold which lasted about 10 days and left me feeling exhausted.
However my super-fit husband was totally felled, could hardly breath and took to his bed. After a fortnight of this I phoned his surgery and the doc actually did a home visit and gave him antibiotics for fluid on a lung.
That was nine weeks ago and he is still breathless and can hardly walk down the garden, he is very depressed and a nightmare to live with if I'm honest.
That cruise line should be named and shamed. Covid is a very nasty disease and some people do actually still DIE from it.
They should demand a clean test from everyone on boarding that ship.

The description ‘a floating Petri dish’ springs to mind.

They swipe your credit card as you board seems that they should also swipe a negative test. Seems irresponsible to me. My friend has been ill for 10 days with Covid and although now negative still feels ill. Imagine being stuck on board feeling this unwell or being infected on board and having to travel. All mainly avoidable.

It’s quite disgraceful. When you go on a cruise you are always asked if you’ve had sickness/diarrhoea before you board and are not allowed to board if you have had it. But apparently it’s okay to board whilst actually suffering from Covid. It’s madness.

I had a conversation with somebody last week, a complete stranger who just happened to be sitting next to me in the dentist waiting room. She told me that she and her partner were allowed on a cruise recently although she had Covid and her partner developed it a few days later. She said they were asked to take a lower deck cabin but refused and also that they asked for a single table at meals as they didn’t want to infect other people. At the time I thought I had misheard her and perhaps she developed Covid during the cruise but when I thought about it she definitely had tested positive before boarding. I would rather not name the cruise company she went with but it was one of the larger ones.

I’m going on MSC cruise on 10 September. Currently require a negative covid test but TA said many of the cruise lines have dropped this requirement.

We went on a cruise earlier this year, with info that all passengers would be tested daily.
Had to have a PCR negative test before flying out.
I tested positive on first day aboard and were isolated in our cabin, then whisked off to an hotel at the cruise company’s expense, where we had to isolate till we were both negative.
I was disappointed at the time, but it was a responsible attitude from the cruise line.

I think so- but check with them. In the meantime, can you video yourselves with date, taking a home test, and then the result. Make sure you have something with date on it, phone or computer, next to the test, and show the room too.

This is similar to the "monitored" at home tests. BUT I think you need them to be verified by the supervisor on skype/teams or whatever they use.
If you are certain you are positive I'd do one of these anyway as you will at least have the test date on the formal certificate they supply. That should mean you have the necessary evidence to claim for covid.

Just wanted to add that on Sunday we flew into UK from Portugal....we were the only 2 people in the airport with masks on...same on the plane ( including staff)..and we got Covid.

Two of my friends have recently been on cruises and both had to provide a negative test before boarding, and it couldn’t be a self test done at home. Those companies were Holland America and Princess. Just so posters can be aware of which companies are behaving responsibly. OP I feel you should name the company you were going to travel with, they should be named and shamed.
At the moment we’re avoiding cruises, but we have flown, and in a week we’ll travel by ferry to France to join our son and family in a house he’s booked in Brittany. We’ll certainly test at home before we go, and we won’t travel if positive. The same will apply when we fly to Greece later in September and when we fly to New Zealand in November. If an official test is required for the NZ flight we’ll obviously do that as well.

Fleurpepper...do you think that would be considered as a third party test and appropriate for the insurance,/cruise? If so, that would be great..thank you.

But I am seriously concerned that there are people about to go on that cruise, who have no idea that the Company is telling people who have tested for Covid to just come along.

This is serious and needs to be exposed.

You can get a test which is monitored online but not sure how quickly the results come.
You may be able to do a drive-through somewhere.

I would look at who is offering fast services at airports too.
