Do you wear a practical pinny about the house?

I do wear an apron when I am cooking. Saves splashing my nice clothes .I have a beautiful one covered in bees. I do remove before eating and just like Granny Gravy I sometimes drop food right down the front of my clothes. Ahhhhhh.

I always wear an apron when cooking but dont bother any other time

Oh my goodness this is one for me. I have two pinnies. One is a pure white Ken Hom one that I won in a competition. In it I am ready for anything !
My other one is a jazzy blue one that is more for entertaining in the style of dear Hyacinth. Love that one too.

I have a pretty cotton one, but only wear it when making pastry or doing anything with icing sugar (which isn't often) it's just so messy!

I also have a waterproof apron for when we bath the dog.

How do non apron wearers manage to avoid getting splashed with food like tomato sauce and greasy stuff whilst cooking and why is wearing one considered old fashioned?

I always wear an apron when cooking. My latest, which I love, was a present on my 70th last year. It reads ‘ Made in 1951. 70 years of being totally awesome! ‘

It is apparent, from this thread, that there are those who are beautifully co-ordinated, and can avoid splashes. And there are the others......

I am amused by those who only have 1 or 2 pinnies!

I am less amused by those who seem to think that wearing one is some sort of aberration!

I do! Oil-cloth ones for anything involving water and frying things. Fatty splatters - no thanks! Fabric ones for baking. I might be old-fashioned, but I really don’t care.

I wear an Oxford shirt DH retired to the charity box. Cut the sleeves off and hem above my elbows.

Yes, I have several aprons. Two of my aprons were DS's woodwork aprons purchased in 1983, they withstand hot washes as they are heavy cotton.
I have a black sommelier apron too.
Always wear an apron when frying as cooking oil spits everywhere.

It may save our clothes to wear a pinny. I made one at senior school were it whenever baking for years. Wouldn't fit now though. But I and several other ladies made them in our local sewing group. Don't wear it often but should really. Even scraping potatoes I can get covered. My neighbour wears a little overall every day.

I made aprons during lockdown so have an apron for gardening, one for painting and decorating and two for cooking & baking. I can get as messy as I like and usually do.

When cooking I always wear one and sometimes keep it on when eating, especially something messy like spaghetti bolognese! (Not something anyone can eat without splattering). Would remove before answering the door though! Have a special one for Christmas. ?

I love my aprons, have 7 I think, different patterns. ? My mother wore them, and her mother, so I guess that’s why I do. Always for washing up and cooking, helps keep my clothes clean.

The first apron I had was made in Domestic Science from a tea towel and some cotton tape. I kept that for years but rarely wore it.

I only wear one now when I’m bathing the dog or on Christmas Day (a special Christmas one) I have aprons for the GC to wear when baking or painting.

I’m another who tends to spill things down me so maybe I should start wearing one. It’s a shame to keep ruining clothes with tomato & grease stains. My Grandma always wore a cross over apron in the house then moved on to blue & white checked overall.

I should do, especially when I'm cooking - like others who have commented, I can be very messy! My husband often comments how I manage to miss my mouth when eating and drop food down the front of me!

I do wear one for cooking as I am bound to get splashed with fat or curry or flour. I too remember making one at school - green gingham. Happy memory.

I wear a big long full skirted X backed pinafore nearly all the time. I make them from cotton drill because it's well wearing and absorbent. Attending to dogs and goats can be messy so I need a well covering apron.

I still wear an apron which my eldest granddaughter made for me at school years ago. It's floral on one side and checked on the other.

I have always worn an apron whilst cooking, my beautiful red Le Creuset one is a favourite at present.

Used to wear them at school when doing art lessons to prevent my clothes being ruined by supposedly washable PVA and powder paint. They were provided for the pupils but staff had to buy their own.
