Bookmark explained

It pops up on my IPad with just a tap on the question so it has been popping up and confusing me.

Where on the thread does it say bookmark? I’m looking on this thread and can’t see it? It would be useful to use it on a long thread, but I can’t see where to click.

If you hover over the last post (using a laptop - other devices vary) a button will appear in the bottom right hand corner.

On my phone it is the three dots on the bottom of a post.

ah ha! I have never used that feature, but will try it now!

I lied! Ii can't get it to cancel the bookmark on my phone. But you can bookmark further down which cancels the first one.

I think the buttons are in different places on different devices, doodke.

Thank you. I'll remember that next time. The thread has ended now, but it was really getting on my nerves - I didn't even mean to bookmark it. I meant to quote a post. I wonder if the buttons are in different positions on phones, iPads and laptops? (or ir could just be my increasing scattiness

You can do another one further into the thread and it cancels it or just lick on it again to completely cancel it.

But how do you switch it off, please?

I accidentally clicked it on a very long thread last week, and although the thread ran on for many pages after the bookmark, when I opened it I was taken to the page I'd marked. It was maddening.

It means that next time you open that thread it will open at the post you bookmarked. It's very handy for a thread that covers several pages; if you bookmark the last post you read you won't have to hunt for it when you come back later to the thread.

Bookmarking a later post in the thread removes your original bookmark.

I have to admit that, after several years on Gnet I only discovered how to use it this year... But I find it very useful.

You can use it to mark where you have already read to in any particular thread. I find it very handy.
