I had the “Hi Mum, I’ve lost my phone, I’m ringing you from my friends phone, can you transfer taxi funds” text message, unfortunately for them my only child was sitting next to me on the sofa!

For ages now, I have been getting calls, about three or four times a week ,on my landline, saying that bank security has flagged up some unusual activity on my account often, but not always, £300 paid to Amazon and £1,000 to an overseas account.

I used to ask to be put through to an advisor and they never knew my name or which bank account the money had come out of. Now I just put the phone down in case they record me for voice recognition.

I know this is an old and very well known scam but it seems impossible to report it to anyone.

I had this WhatsApp message today Hi Mum this is my new phone number, I have a new phone please be careful it’s a scam.

On the maybe / highly unlikely chance that one of these text from a family member might be true, we have a safe word that we end the text with.

I’ve reported a man on this forum for private messaging me saying he had throat cancer and had a few weeks to live - next thing he’ll be asking for money but he’ll have to be up earlier than me to Sam me 🤬🤬

I keep my landline too Whiff but would it still work in a power failure?
I don't actually know.
The display screen often says nuisance? so I don't pick up but there are still one or two people who call me on that line and even hospitals!
I rarely get scams on my mobile. famous last words
My landline came into its own when I lost my mobile.

I have had various scams on my mobile and landline . I just block them and then report them to the company they are supposed to come from. I won't give up my landline just incase my mobile broke and needed l help I live on my own have falls and health problems. Always been a belt and braces type of person .

I have just reported yet another scam to my local MP and asked if he can do anything about all the unwanted phone calls we get. It has got to the point where I no longer answer the phone unless I know who it is. We are thinking of getting rid of our fixed line completely because so many come through.

Spam messages over the phone are normal. You can block the number or ignore it.

I received this twice on my mobile, although Amazon wasn't mentioned.

I have seen something similar on FB. Yet another scam, the best we can do is share the alert to warn as many people as possible.

Mollygo Tue 23-Aug-22 14:47:27

This arrived in my messages yesterday. I’ve reported it, but I wondered if anyone else has had something like it.
