Cheshire is classified as a North West county, but here in NW Cheshire, we've had negligible amounts of rain in the past week. Some showers, but nothing torrential; nothing, even, that would necessitate the use of windscreen wipers. Rain is forecast next Saturday. I won't hold my breath.

I believe the forecast is for torrential rain right after the bank Holiday weekend, and then we'll have had enough of it after a couple of days!
In an ideal world it would rain overnight and the sun would shine during the day but that doesn't happen very often.

Well in the northwest which is a region unknown by any weather station /news outlet- we've had glorious heavy showers and soft soaking rain.....and more showers....and a heavy dew most days, sorry. Am I boring you? Our garden and countryside is green and lush, pity you all don't know where we live as it's NEVER mentioned on ANY weather forecasts!!! It's our secret.........

Short shower yesterday morning in S.Wales but nothing to get excited about!! A bit cloudy today and very 'muggy' making mowing the lawn uncomfortable but the washing dried!

I was in a caravan in Dorset and it started to rain at 2:30am. A wonderful sound of big fat raindrops. Then it was off and on till 11ish when myself and my little GD went for a couple of miles walk. Wonderful fresh smells and sights. ?

No rain here for a couple of months - my garden has died off (I refuse to water as it’s too precious) and the grass is brown. If anyone has any spare rain please send it to us in east Norfolk where we seem to miss it every time it’s forecast

Two drips & a splash is about the most we have had it seems! The couple of odd showers have been brief & heat has got to them before the water could be absorbed by the earth! Bushes are shedding leaves as are my small trees. Still we will have a very cold winter coming to give us something else to moan about ?

JenniferEccles ,I live in Berkshire too - and absolutely no sign of rain ( now midday)! Please can you send it my way!

Athenia How lovely, and what an unusual photo. I really liked it, thank you.

Look at the astonishing sight that greeted me on my return home to my flat, where the rainwater stays on the surface for a day after a storm!
I live in the centre of a town and although we have two rivers less than a mile away, the heron won't find any fish here!

We’ve only had a little rain here in Dorset, although where I live there was just one heavy shower followed by a few hours of drizzle on some days. Even so, it has been heartening to see the poor, parched grass in the park green up again. Beautiful sunny day today, but I sense Autumn vibes now. Autumn at last- my favourite season!

I have been rained on twice now while out walking in North Wales but I don't mind one bit.

^This year is reminding me of Jean de Florette. where the rains just won't come, and even when rain looks absolutely certain on the forecast, it is skirting around us. That has happened again this week!^

OldnProud We've noticed that quite often there are puddles and wet roads around us when we don't see any rain. We've always joked that we have our own little micro climate.

My mum was staying with us last week, and I took her out in the car for several hours that day. It was exactly like that while we were out.
I honestly expected that with so many showers around, our village would have been hit by at least one of them, but no, it hadn't. Not a drop.

But I spoke too soon this morning. I washed some clothes and as soon as I went to peg it out, the rain started. Very fine drizzle for quite a while, but some good garden-watering rain after that, neither too light nor too heavy. I'm happy now, and won't need to water my veg patch this evening smile

No rain in mid Wales, we’ve only had a sprinkling this week. It’s a gorgeous sunny day, but there is a definite hint of Autumn in the wind.

VioletSky Thu 25-Aug-22 12:14:54

It's raining here too

My cats can't get their minds around it and keep trying different routes out of the house because they obviously haven't twigged its coming from the sky lol

timetogo2016 Thu 25-Aug-22 12:11:02

And the smell before it rains is ozone midgey.
I love the Chase lol.

midgey Thu 25-Aug-22 12:05:15

That smell is called petrichor…..useful for quizzes a d scrabble!

Caleo Thu 25-Aug-22 11:46:20

I love the smell when rain falls on dry gound.

DanniRae Thu 25-Aug-22 11:14:01

Rained here in the night and still raining now - really lovely and heavy. Didn't even mind that I got wet going to the dentist!smile

icanhandthemback Thu 25-Aug-22 11:12:28

Yes, lovely big fat drops of rain...just in time for my Mother's Nursing Home's Garden Party. I don't know whether to rejoice in the rain which the garden is dying for or to commiserate with the staff for the hard work they have put in just for things to rained off.
Actually, as long as it is sustained rain rather than the pathetic showers we had recently where the ground barely got wet, I'll be happy.

Zonne Thu 25-Aug-22 11:03:19

Commiserations Zonne. I hope it soon stops wherever you are

Thank you. No luck so far, but we live in hope!

Jane43 Thu 25-Aug-22 09:20:32

I would love to see some rain here in Shropshire. We have had the odd shower and some drizzle but not the heavy, prolonged rain we badly need.

Esmay Thu 25-Aug-22 09:15:01

Yippee from me too .

So the naked rain dances worked !

JenniferEccles Thu 25-Aug-22 09:12:04

Oh this is wonderful! Rain started here in Berkshire about six thirty this morning and we still have it. Fairly heavy rain too, but not the torrential stuff which would just run off our parched ground. No thunder or lightning though.

It’s particularly welcome here as we often seem to miss it, seemingly being too far east if it’s coming from the west, or too far west if it comes up from France and passes over East Sussex and Kent.

According to my BBC weather app it’s expected to continue until about midday. The rain water butts will be filling nicely.
Yippee!
