Changing lock.

I don’t know what type of lock is on the door or if there is more than one.

If there is a yale lock in use no need to change locks you can simply replace the core, either by buying new cores from any hardware store or swapping them with someone else e.g. you. Keep the cores you remove if not swapping for future use elsewhere.
It is a very simple job. I have done it many times.

Asking for an extended family member.

J’s very elderly mother is currently at home with a care-package and appears, sadly, to be coming towards the end of this arrangement. J is disabled and does not drive, which means that visits are not as frequent as either of them would wish. Over the course of time, their mother has given keys to kindly neighbours of her own volition and sometimes, it seems, at the request of those neighbours. Carers have access to keys via a keysafe. J thinks it might be wise to change the lock when the house is vacated, as they have no idea who has possession of a key. Will a locksmith need consent or any sort of ID to do this? J wants to make appropriate arrangements to ease things at what may well be a very difficult time.
