I don’t read the articles but see the headlines, the poor couple must be seriously damaged by the constant attention and criticism they are receiving.

I’m not a fan but enough is enough surely!

Meghan seems to imagine that she has had a vast influence on the dynamic of the royal family. I wonder why? She is such a minor and unimportant player in the fabric of our rich history - I guess social media has given her a platform for her somewhat shallow thoughts - probably not her fault, as Americans have often envied our long historical background. Therefore what appears as arrogance is more likely to be ignorance. Harry is a decent guy- popular, appealing and a good communicator- however, like his uncle Andrew, not blessed with much in the way of brains and displays a sense of entitlement showing a distinct lack of perception.

Let's have a Republic and get rid of the lots of them to live private lives and to argue with each other to their hearts Co rent.
Meanwhile - as far as I can see they are all using the press for publicity - can't open a newspaper or magazine without Edward and Sophie being shoved in our faces as 'hardworking'. After Saint Sophie tried to sell off access to the monarchy for cash, They sloped off to live in a mansion kept up by unearned wealth - they have genuinely no idea what 'hardworking' means.
Andrew - no need to comment - what a Prince!
Charles, what a layabout. Still serving an apprenticeship close to his 80's.
Philip - his 'job' was to support his wife? Seriously. Now Kates 'job' is to support her husband! Never was there more well paid jobs on Earth than just being married to a Royal!
William - moving to his 40's and doing the same apprenticeship as his dad! Idle beyond belief, yet has the best of everything.

We lose nothing if we lose them all. Absolutely nothing has changed since the death of Philip or Diana - pomp and ceremony is all that is left!

Meghan - at least she had a career based her own merit. She is more articulate than the Eton and Public School educated Royals. She is definitely being harangued by the British Press - why are they not turning that glare on the idle shower sitting on their royal backsides in the UK and drilling down into how our police service are being dragged into covering up shady goings on (Pizza Gate - Anderw would have had a police escort if he had been there at all!, given he has been insisting on one all his life).

Agree Well Said.
Monarchy serves politicians and Royals not the people.

They make millions from Netflix (she had a microphone under the large collar of her coat at church)

How the heck do you know that? ??

This is one of the widely spread rumours about them on social media. There is no proof. Some of the other rumours are much worse than that. They question her pregnancy, if she really gave birth or used a surrogate and loads of other tosh. If you think GN is bad have a look at some of the things said about her. I don't wonder they keep releasing publicity anything to counter the out and out lies I would imagine.

handbaghoarder Tue 30-Aug-22 16:24:03

Agree. Wish they would just bore off TBH. Also wish the media would just totally ignore them. Stop reporting and taking photos of their inane lives and spoutings. Give them the anonymity they apparently crave. Win/win result

H&M made plans for there future with any consultation with the Queen and if they had come off a very lucrative lifestyle would have followed. Six Months in UK brushing up on being Royalty the other 6 months selling the fact on the American market. How many of Megan's celebrity friends cash in on their status advertising various products or just making appearances.

Netflix and Spotify deals look a bit thin and not what they were hoping for and living expenses much come as a shock.

Mortgage payments must have been a completely new concept to Harry, also insuring cars, employing security guards. Has he ever employed any staff (housekeeper, cook, gardeners, pool boy, nannies). The rumour that they would like to return to the UK and and help out with royal duties and live off the British Tax Payer must look very attractive.

Amalegra Tue 30-Aug-22 16:12:22

Enough is definitely enough! Every time I think this silly couple has at last gone quiet, up they pop again with some new ‘revelation’ about the RF (a favourite, lest we forget he, at least , is related to them), their philanthropy, her struggles with her mental health, her this, her that, oh and a bit about poor old ‘H’ as she calls him, just to remind us again of Who She Is. Wish this hypocritical and self absorbed pair would just go away and so no one could write about, or bully’ them ever again!

Devorgilla Tue 30-Aug-22 16:04:24

Well, I confess to calling the Queen 'Dizzie Miss Lizzy' on, I think, the Platinum Jubilee thread. I saw it on several banners on the Mall for the balcony appearance for, if my memory serves me right, the Silver Jubilee. It was predominantly the gay community of London that dubbed her that and it was a term of endearment and admiration. Given that the Queen has an excellent sense of humour, I am sure she loved the accolade. A bit of light entertainment in the midst of all the prim and proper stuff that goes with the position. Mea Culpa.
'Phil the Greek' and comments about Boris' appearance can be used to belittle and fall into a different category. As Dickens says, holding him to account politically is not in the same arena.

Chestnut Tue 30-Aug-22 15:53:47

This is a thread that is difficult to keep up with. You go away and another 30 posts have appeared!

Here's a lively headline. Nelson Mandela's grandson is not happy with Meghan's comments re the similarities between herself and his grandfather.

Roseflower5 Tue 30-Aug-22 15:53:31

Just too much attention seeking, no bullying at all.

Some can’t tell the difference between bullying and criticism ,
no one here can bully a public figure unless they speak to them,

Is Johnson bullied or criticised on this forum ?

Was calling Prince Phillip- Phil The Greek, or referring to the
Queen as Lizzie bullying, criticism , mocking ?

Exactly!

Calling Philip 'Phil-The-Greek' is what I'd call a tad racist. Though he wasn't averse to making the odd comment in a similar vein himself. Still, two wrongs don't make a right.

But I've known the odd person or two who are great admirers of the Queen refer to her as "Lizzie" - as if she were an old friend, so not sure that's bullying or mocking, certainly not on their part anyway.

As for Boris Johnson - he should be held to account in the political arena, like any PM - depends how you do it though, and what you say. However, mocking him for his so-called 'dad-dancing', or the fact that he did or didn't put his arm round his wife, etc... or his appearance / weight, is definitely what I'd think of as bullying. But I might be in the minority.

Can anyone really imagine Harry calling Charles “dad”
As in “ he said to me I have lost my dad through this”
Or words to that effect.

? why ever not ? Dad, daddy, papa, pater, father …who knows and in any case she was reporting what he said and may not have used the same word.

I thought they wanted to get away from the press but they seem to be in the news every day. I think Megan is inclined to exaggerate, for instance the episode of the fire in the room where Archie was sleeping when in fact there was no fire and the person looking after him had taken him to the kitchen for a snack.

I don't think the press want to get away from them though.

They make good copy and generate clicks and revenue.

Apart from when they are doing something really newsworthy - good or bad - which might be worth reporting on, the fact that they are "in the news everyday" could partly be because the media staff are continually creating editorials about them for the reason given above. It must be quite easy to dig around and find some angle that hasn't previously been covered, or if that fails, re-hash some old stuff as an opinion piece.

If people are really fed up with hearing / reading about them, as many say they are, it might be an idea to stop reading such articles and then commenting on them under the given section (I'm not suggesting this is what you do BTW). It's only the continued interest that creates the articles and editorials. No comments, no interest... then the stories will dry up, as the media operates on this basis.

My thoughts exactly,

And why shouldn’t they make money ? If they didn’t and Charles kept them that would be wrong too of course…

My DD in Australia said the same. Apparently you could make out the outline, and that is why she wore that type of coat, with the big collar.

This was at the Jubilee service.

I wake very early in the morning and read all the UK newspapers online, it is interesting to see the varying way news items are interpreted from paper to paper. If I spot anything controversial I have a look at the time the article was written. Quite often something written as a’possibility’ is picked up by other newspapers and rapidly becomes a probability and then a fact. Chinese whispers.

Can't believe the interest and debate that this generates. I don't follow any soap opera, whether royal family or showbiz celebrities. These people court publicity. They have big egos and too much money and time on their hands. I have no interest in them and am happy to remain in ignorance of their goings-on.

Wong Tue 30-Aug-22 14:36:02

They love it!!! I'm afraid I wonder if they have mental health issues to keep causing so much trouble and distress within their family. If they kept off of chat shows, giving interviews etc., they would not be pursued so much. Their actions when his grandfather died and the disgusting way they talk bout other members of their family invites reporters bothering them. They love it! Don't want them back here. Stay in America or wherever but don't come back here. We're better off without you. Perhaps they ought to take a leaf from Kate and William's book and learn how to act in a dignified way, instead of like two has been celebs. They're the bullies.
