I don’t read the articles but see the headlines, the poor couple must be seriously damaged by the constant attention and criticism they are receiving.

I’m not a fan but enough is enough surely!

merlotgran Thu 01-Sept-22 23:24:05

You want her to go away? Stop talking about her. Bothers you so much? Turn it off. Close the article, turn off the TV.

In other words, like it or lump it?
No can do, I’m afraid.

Just because the Royal Family adopt a, Never complain, never explain approach, it doesn’t mean Meghan won’t be called out on her more ridiculous pronouncements and constant digs at people she doubts will hit back.

Summerlove Thu 01-Sept-22 23:19:51

Thanks!

MerylStreep Thu 01-Sept-22 23:09:29

Imaround
If it were, say, Michelle Obama etc.
Maybe that’s because Michelle is real unlike Meghan who’s as false as a 9 Bob note.
I don’t ever recall Michelle telling such porkies to a global audience.

Watching Nelson Mandelas grandson being interviewed Re that lie
He said there was only one event that could be likened to his release from prison and that was the abolition of slavery.
Not quiet in the same league as Meghan marrying a prince but a girls got to try, hasn’t she? Although it’s backfired spectacularly.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 22:58:22

I must say, I have no interest in Meghan other than the effect she seems to have on people, and I'm interested in how ordinary people can get so involved in protecting the queen.
It's intriguing to watch people, from a neutral stance, because I don't care enough one way or the other.

Also, there is no bad press in Hollywood. Even negative press makes her money. So honestly, these types of threads play right into her hands. People will listen to her podcast just because someone is saying bad things about her to see if those complaining are correct. They are reading the articles, buying the magazines and papers BECAUSE of the negative press.

Smart woman IMO.

You want her to go away? Stop talking about her. Bothers you so much? Turn it off. Close the article, turn off the TV.

For me, at the end of the day I participate because I enjoy lively debate. When I turn it off, I go about my measly non-PR salaried life.

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 22:37:55

Exactly Callistemon21 and Missadventure.

It does not go unnoticed for me that all those people you mentioned are women Missadventure. I will say that threads such as this are exactly what her podcast is talking about. How women are treated and the labels they are given.

It really is a wonderful podcast and I recommend it. If it were say, Michelle Obama, instead of Meghan people would be shouting from the rooftops at what a wonderful thing she is doing to advance women's issues and feminism.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 22:23:43

Isnt that too often the case?
Katie Price, Brittney Spears, Diana...

Callistemon21 Thu 01-Sept-22 22:16:40

I'm beginning to feel rather sorry for Meghan.

but the timing is not down to MM. The media will use their interviews at a time that is right for them because it will sell more copy.

It seems as if she thinks she is using the media to her advantage but in fact the media is using her and perhaps she doesn't realise the negative impact it is having.

Callistemon21 Thu 01-Sept-22 22:11:27

I have no idea when she died, until it's upon us, in the news
Perhaps because she wasn't your world-famous mother-in-law, Norah.

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:49:19

She knew she would be on the fall magazine release.

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:48:43

Summerlove:

It looks like the magazine is printed twice a year.

Summerlove Thu 01-Sept-22 21:32:24

Smileless2012

I was referring to the Cut magazine article that was published on the 29th, 2 days before the 25th anniversary of Diana's death.

I’m curious what day their monthly articles are usually published.

It’s probable she knew she’d be the September cover

But not when the magazine would release

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:12:02

Oh yes. My bad. I spelled it wrong.

Yep, I used my bad. Maybe this months "what American words offend us" thread can start early.

MawtheMerrier Thu 01-Sept-22 21:04:17

Caitlyn Jenner?

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:03:00

*Katilyn Jenner

Vintagejazz Thu 01-Sept-22 21:02:29

Norah

I imagine Meghan has no recollection of when Dianna died. Diana's sons appear to have not memorialized the anniversary, how would Meghan know?

If course she remembers the date. It was a seismic event in Harry's life and is mentioned in the media every year.

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 21:00:36

Oprah is a well respected person in the US because she worked her ass off for over 40 years to build an empire. As a black woman, she had obstacles that others did not. She started out as a news journalist and pushed back against the powers to be at the time because she did not want to do the "trash" tv of the time like Phil Donague and Jerry Springer. She did not move her offices from Chicago
when she went i to national syndication because she did not want to uproot her staff. She is NOT trash.

I don't work for her PR team either by the way. I can just imagine the response I would get if I called a well respected public person from the UK trash. Especially when the truth is I know nothing about that person.

We have a ratings system in the US which stations use to determine when programs should air. Sadly for you all, the interview brought in the same number of viewers as the interview with Kairlyn Jenner. Less than the Superbowl (90+ million every year) and the Michael Jackson interview. 17.1 million viewers out of 300 million people.

Hardly a smash success.

eazybee Thu 01-Sept-22 20:47:51

Which does not alter the fact that Meghan and the lamentable Harry chose to give a malicious interview at a time when they knew the 99 year old Prince Philip was in very poor health and his family deeply concerned. All of them only concerned with how much money they could make.
A golden touch?
Trash.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 20:34:16

Ah, right.
Well, anyone whose living is made by selling to the public use all sorts of techniques to lure their customers.
I've noticed Oprah is hugely popular (again)
CBS must feel it's their lucky day with the interview; it contains everything, with Oprah as the cherry on top!

merlotgran Thu 01-Sept-22 20:34:10

Oprah can release a Tweet at midnight and people would set their alarms to wake up to read it.

No wonder Meghan wanted to return to America. ?

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 20:27:25

I agree with you missadventure but, again, it was CBS who funded the project, recruited the advertisers and released the interview. They alone chose the date. CBS, not Oprah and not Meghan.

Oprah has a golden touch here in the US. She doesn't need to worry about those things any longer. Oprah can release a Tweet at midnight and people would set their alarms to wake up to read it.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 20:01:42

I'd imagine Oprah has a vested interest in stirring the pot, her PR will be looking at the predicted viewing figures, and how to ensure they're high.

What better than a rift, a scandal, the royals, and someone who is ready to talk about it (whether it's real or imaginary doesnt really matter)

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 20:01:35

Summerlove, the more I think about it, I think the interview was done in January 2021. They all had long sleeves on outdoor in Southern California. She was pregnant enough to be showing. But not so pregnant that she was uncomfortable. Since Lilli was born in May, a January timeline would make sense.

I am laughing at the thought of me being on anyone's PR team. My communication style is the opposite of what would be expected of a PR professional. Maybe she can hire me to be her fact checker though? Money is money at the end of the day I suppose. wink

imaround Thu 01-Sept-22 19:36:51

I am not her biggest fan. But I refuse to believe tabloids over verifiable facts. A simple internet search could prove or disprove so many things.

Luckily I have learned a valuable lesson in determining what is and is not fake news the last 7 years.

Some of what is being reported about Meghan is true. Some of it is not. I would research the same way about anyone.

It appears that the interview was recorded sometime between November 2020 and January 2021.

Summerlove Thu 01-Sept-22 19:23:14

Do we know when the oprah interview was filmed? genuine question
