Robot vacuum cleaners

My daughter has one. Both she and her daughter have long hair so hairs are forever getting tangled around the robot's brushes. Untangling it takes ages. Don't know if the same would happen with cat's hair, but just thought I'd mention it.

I would not get one with long haired pets.

I have two roombas. 800 series from around 2013. I have replaced a battery in one, from ebay and also the rollers and whirly brushes. One roomba upstairs and one downstairs. Invaluable to me and going strong

Long hair would, I think, easily clog up the whirly brush on mine and I don`t use mine in eg my sewing room but really you need to do some research. I did the whole downstairs with one of mine yesterday and they bring rugs up to look like new.

My Dbro and Sil have had one for ages - they usually have a few foster cats in addition to a couple of their own. I don’t know the brand but could find out if you like.

My daughter has one and it can’t vacuum close to the skirting boards, in corners nor the stairs. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend one at all if you have carpets.
I prefer my Miele confort with the turbo brush attachment for picking up hairs.

We do have fitted carpets and Persian rugs. Sounds like our long haired cats would soon ruin the machinery. Oh well. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks for your help everyone.

We have a Roomba upstairs and it's great for getting under beds. I actually like giving him a clean after he has done his stuff.

Thank you Mokryna, you just answered my question that I was going to post. I`ve often wondered how they cope with edges and corners, with being round.

I love mine. It copes well with short haired cat hair but I'm not confident it'd cope with really long hairs. It picks up cotton and threads from my sewing room but pins are a problem.
To me the biggest drawback is that it really only dusts the carpet so I have to get what I call my 'big' hoover out every couple of months to deep clean the carpets.
Its been a boon to my bad back and I'd recommend it for back sufferers.7h

My DD not only has a robot vacuum but also an ordinary Miele which just sucks, it is awful for my back. I really recommend the turbobrush attachment on mine which really beats the carpet without any back pain.

I do not have carpets and only one rug and mine cannot get on the rug to clean it or if on, cannot get off. I have to be very careful because it would easily commit suicide by falling down the stairs.

I don't have one...yet. My family have a robovac and two cats who now simply ignore it, having been, initially, suspcious.
