Best Own Brands

M&S baked beans, 35p, the best.

I second those who praise Aldi and Lidl own brands. I think you can't beat Fairy liquid (but I get the basic formula from Savers), Wilkins jam and real Marmite but otherwise our house is all own brand.

I also love Primark makeup. The £1 gel nail polish lasts forever.

My grandchildren are staying for a week, I've been forced pressurised to go and buy a giant sized Heinz ketchup, apparently Sainsbury's own label just doesn't cut it I wouldn't mind but large dollops of the red stuff gets left on the side of their plates anyway!

Although I have to grudgingly admit there's only one brand of baked beans that I prefer.

I'm with the gchildren on the tomato ketchup (but I don't leave dollops behind). Was it Mr Colman who made his millions through the mustard people left on their plates?!

I have been known to put own brand fish fingers into a Birds Eye packet in my freezer, and the GC haven't rumbled me yet!

Lidl Premium fruit and nut muesli - really good and not nearly as much sugar as many other brands.

Aldi own brand cleaning products are very good, the premium washing up liquid is as good as Fairy. Their day and night cream has been recommended in beauty magazines, the Caviar brand is best when I can get it. DH loves their shortbread fingers and their Aberdeen Angus steak. Their seeded bread and rolls are also very good.

Primark makeup has also been tested and recommended in beauty magazines, there are a few types of foundation - the double coverage has been compared to Estée Lauder’s, their primer is good and so is their lipstick. Their wet wipes and cotton wool are also very good value.

Wilko’s mascara was recommended in a magazine and I now use it instead of Max Factor.

I’m very fussy about whites but I thought I’d give Lidl soap powder a go. I also put in a whitening sheet £1 for 20 from the Pound Shop. Perfect.
OH informs me that Farm Shops knock off Magnums are just as good as the real thing.

Aldi's own chocolate, Moser Roth, is fab. Equally as good as Greene & Black's and less than half the price.

Aldi dishwasher tablets are as good as any. I have soft water, so am unable to say if they would be equally good in a hard water area. Aldi's moisturiser is also just as good as 'posh' brands in my experience. Same goes for their shampoos and conditioners.

Fairy liquid is the best and lasts a long time others are watery. Asda own baked beans are really nice not economy variety. Heinz original salad cream my favourite shops own not the same taste. Marmite original can’t live without that taste. Asda ketchup good enough for me not mad on brown sauce.
Shops own soups best for me but I like Campbells or Batchelors concentrated soups for sauces. Supermarkets own cereals are fine I prefer good butter Isle of Man Goats or French salted rather than shops own blended. Aldi lemon mango or raspberry frozen sorbet are to die for. I usually make my own ice cream using condensed milk recipes.

Almat washing powder ( Aldi) is by far better than most of the leading brands IMO. Have recommended this to many friends who all agree.

Certain things I will not compromise on Heinz baked beans, Daddies sauce, Fairy washing powder, Head & Shoulders shampoo & conditioner
Things I do & to me are fine no problem
Cereals , tinned fruit, tinned tomatoes, packet soup, pickles ... I will try anything

Luckily I have a Lidl practically next door. I always look at their "When it's gone, it's gone" section. I bought a huge lifetime supply of olives.
Their tins of tomatoes etc ofcourse I buy. But I have had to re-home a couple of their own brand electricals. First a big food mixer which didn't work properly and garden tools weren't good.
Sometimes you have to pay a bit more to get the right thing

Lidls ice cream and also pizzas are great quality and a great price!

I recommend Sainsburys own brand low sugar granola. It’s less than £2 and the make I’ve been buying is £3.70!

I buy a lot of own-brands items.... soap powder, toilet rolls, bleach, cream cleaner, washing-up liquid, etc., all Asda's own. The best Asda's own brand item lately was their ice cream cornets, which are so much nicer that Cornettos

I like Lidl's own toiletries; their shampoos and shower gels and face creams etc are all nice, and good value.

I suspect it is worth giving everything a go, and then it’s down to personal taste really.

But it would be good to see highly recommended
