Is it just me? Grannies who go on endlessly about their grandchildren.

Is it just me or are there other members on the board who get a little tired hearing about how marvellous other people's grandchildren are without any other conversation?

Grandma70s Wed 31-Aug-22 18:34:36

Yes, holiday photos are much more boring than grandchildren,

HeavenLeigh Wed 31-Aug-22 14:35:28

I don’t have problem hearing about other peoples grandchildren for few mins it’s when they go on and on and on, yes most of us have them, but for me it’s the holiday snaps, they send me Zzzzzzz

FindingNemo, Lathyrus and anyone else who needs a little hug and a bunch of flowers

Well I don’t talk about children or grandchildren. The most I say is “they’re fine” if asked.

dolphindaisy Wed 31-Aug-22 11:25:42

Someone once said "there's never been a cowboy quicker on the draw than grandparents whipping out photos of their grandchildren" in many cases this is true!

MissAdventure Wed 31-Aug-22 11:17:11

grin
You know how to live it up!

Some (childless) friends of ours always used to bring videos of their skiing holidays.
Could anything be more boring?

Sara1954 Wed 31-Aug-22 11:13:00

I know quite a lot of people now who have chosen not to have children, they have great lifestyles, and certainly don’t seem to have any regrets.

My son doesn’t have any children, he says his sisters have put him off.

Lathyrus - thank you for your kind words and support.

Vintagejazz Wed 31-Aug-22 10:35:28

I know what you mean Lathyrus.

There was a very interesting thread on Mumsnet a few years ago where childless people shared how casually and unthinking people can make them feel like rubbish.
'You only really grow up when you have children' 'you don't know real love until you have a child' etc

Any photos of the move, MissA?

Honestly, some people .....

Keep your eye out on crimewatch.
There will be some, I'm sure.

Ohmother Wed 31-Aug-22 10:22:06

It’s the lots of photos of anything that gets me. Before smartphones my SIL used to bring at least 5 packs of developed photos of their holidays. DS looking left, DS looking right with same view behind him…purgatory!! Now there all on her smartphone which is difficult to see in the light and keeps clicking off if not moved on in time.

All grandparents have bragging rights though when their GC arrive. ?

We've had a recent bereavement in the little block where I live.
The lady next door knocked at mine yesterday, and we were just idly chatting about bits and bobs, and the family clearing out the empty flat, and how it seemed strange without anyone living there.
The neighbour saw us, and immediately came down and announced "Well, she's gone to Birmingham now!"
Talking about her grandaughter.

I have the opposite situation. We are estranged from our DD and 3 GC so do not know anything about them.

I find it embarrassing when someone mentions them and I have to admit that we never see them!

Here’s some ?for you Nemo.

Because of illness in the family I will never be a Granny. People dnt always pick up the vibe that this isn’t something you want to talk about, do they? They just plough on.

At the moment I have on my phone a WhatsApp photo from a friend with her seven grandchildren and the caption “This is what makes life worth living” ?

Look on the bright side if it was not their grandchildren it would be the various illnesses they are suffering from.

Chardy Wed 31-Aug-22 09:00:36

I'm always happy to oo and ah at one photo of offspring's wedding, new baby, first day at school, graduation etc. I can't handle ten photos of pretty much the same thing.

Norah Wed 31-Aug-22 05:48:46

Our GC range 40 to 12, with GGC 20 to 5. I very much doubt anyone else wants to see pictures or converse about them.

Sara1954 Tue 30-Aug-22 22:57:05

I’m afraid to say my husband is often guilty of showing our staff videos of the children, and they obviously feel obliged to watch with fascination as they jump around in the paddling pool, or have a few lines in the school play.

Sara1954 Tue 30-Aug-22 22:54:00

Mine range from 3 to 22.
Some have been to Reading Festival, so all photos sensored I would think.
The youngest is the world’s biggest drama Queen, the two twelve year olds think they’re fifteen, and there is one football mad boy, I know more about Man U than I thought possible.

I love them all to bits, but I’m not sure they’re to everyone’s taste.

I think the most extreme example of this was told to me a few years ago on a cruise.

I was chatting to someone about this very subject of obsessed grandparents and she said on the day she and her husband boarded the ship, they went out onto the balcony whereupon a woman on the next door balcony, after briefly saying hello, produced her phone and started to show her pictures of her various grandchildren!
This was within thirty seconds of having just said hello to each other.
I think the poor couple were afraid to use their balcony for the whole fortnight for fear of getting caught again.

Spare us all from boring grandmothers (because it’s not usually the grandfathers is it )

Elizabeth they range from 4 to 19 years old the eldest has just returned from a holiday with his mates in Ayia Napa, I have no intention of asking what went on and definitely won’t be showing proud gran photos.
The four year old has spent the day at Peppa Pig world.
Now let me tell you about my neighbour and her son, you know, the one that arrives in the middle of the night wearing a heavy rucksack. God knows what he’s up to. You must have seen him, greens socks and big boots.

LauraNorderr Eight grandchildren, how lovely, I only have one and there won't be anymore.

In an ideal world, I would have liked eight, with a long age range. I cannot say I enjoyed some of the stages my children went through but have loved all the stages of my grandson, babies and toddlers are easier when you don't have to look after them every day, and moody teens are funny from a distance.

Does anyone have more than eight?

So sorry, I am talking about grandchildren.
