My friend Wiggy

Some of you knew that I had a pet cockatiel for many years, called Wiggy. She died yesterday afternoon. I know she was only a bird but I was so fond of her. Thank you to those who showed an interest in her. Only yesterday, MissAdventure asked how she was.
I'm going offline now. My son is on the way to help me bury her in the garden, and will stay the weekend, so I need to go shopping.
I know there are many things worse in the world than losing a pet, but I am still upset. But I will be ok in a couple of days.

I’m so sorry you’ve lost your birdy companion, Henetha. Wiggy, and all pets, are not ‘just’ an animal, they’re a beloved part of our lives. flowers

I’d have been interested to know about Wiggy - I’ve been fond of birds ever since an elderly couple gave my brother and I a pair of budgies when we were young. They were dear little pets, even if my brother’s bird had a tendency to bite if she was annoyed!

I am so sorry for losing your family member.

Yes, there are always worse things if anybody wants to play that game - childish and unnecessary

So sorry you had to go through that

So sorry to read about Wiggy. I’d no idea what good companions cockatiel’s make till I looked after my sisters for a few weeks.
Wiggy was your family, you’ll miss that little bird x

Sorry to hear of the loss of your long time companion Henetha.
Nice that you have your son with you to bury her, and comfort you.

Thank you so much, lovely people on GN. I am so touched by your kind messages, it has warmed my heart.
Mt son is here now, we have just buried Wiggy in the garden.
She was hand reared and therefore very tame. She used to climb all over me and actually died sitting on my knee. She really belonged to my granddaughter, but when she went off to uni I was asked to take care of her ..that was about ten years ago !
So it's quite a wrench. The silence now is awful .
Thank you all very much.

henetha so sorry your precious bird has died. It does not matter how many pets we loose it always hurts, it never gets any easier. They take a little of your heart with them but leave something of them with you. Enjoy the happy memories you have of Wiggy.

RIP little Wiggy.

Only a bird ? She wasn't only a bird , she was a pet & you loved & cared for her. Had loads of different pets ... a year or so ago our goldfish , must have been 20 years plus , was ill , yes I took him to the vets to be put to sleep ... given us many a happy hour, & no I wasn't going to have him suffer ... think some thought I was mad ... can think what they like ... our pet loved him & no way was he going to suffer, so no not only a bird , your pet who you loved & looked after ... R I P Wiggy ... God bless

Bird, goldfish, dog, cat, we love them all don't we. Animals do enrich our lives so much. I'm not sure what to get next. I need to get over Wiggy first . Thanks everyone. ?

henetha Fri 02-Sept-22 18:16:48

Ps. Wiggy was at least 13. Possibly 14/15.

buffyfly9 Fri 02-Sept-22 19:12:25

Oh Henetha, I'm so sorry to hear your news even though I didn't know about Wiggy. We have mourned many of our cats over the years and know how you are feeling. I remember reading the following " the pain of losing them is the price we pay for their love"' I found that helpful and hope you do too

I am so sorry you’ve lost not just a pet but a companion. I didn’t know much about Wiggy but it sounds like she had a wonderful life with you. RIP Wiggy

A pet is a companion and someone to talk to and becomes an integral part of your life.

I am sorry for your loss henetha

crazyH Fri 02-Sept-22 20:31:02

So sorry Henetha - I understand. When I lost my lovely, faithful Flash, I didn’t get up from my bed for a couple of days ….slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean. She looked out for me. She was a big softie (Rottweiller)..

Callistemon21 Fri 02-Sept-22 20:35:32

I'm sorry for the loss of Wiggy, henetha

She wasn't only a bird, she was a companion and a much-loved pet.

I still remember the budgerigar I had when I was young - he escaped once but came home again. We've had other pets since but he'll always have a special place in my heart.

SunshineSally Fri 02-Sept-22 23:44:16

Heartfelt hugs henetha - the loss of any pet is so hard as they are an important part of our family. RIP Wiggy ? x

I feel really quite emotional about Wiggy myself.

I just read the thread title, and it's so lovely "My Friend Wiggy".
Makes my eyes prickle.

Poppyjo Sat 03-Sept-22 00:18:53

Sorry to hear about Wiggy. Our pets become truly part of the family. I love that name, too. Plant something nice over her final resting place.
