What is the most wasted feature of your home?

A large footstool we bought which matches the conservatory furniture. It was too large, too high for comfort.

It sits in the corner of a spare bedroom with a spare blanket in it.

Nothing, we moved three years ago and knew exactly what we needed and were lucky enough to get it.

Not a feature, but a possession. We inherited from my mother a 1930's glass and chrome trolley. It would be great as a cocktail trolley, but not for us. So it is in a spare bedroom with a basket of toys on it. I would like to be without it, but has sentimental memories.

I've got a tiny summerhouse. I rarely sit in it and it's largely used as storage for an over-spill of the shed.

It’s only a wasted feature if it always sits empty, never ever used. Ours also waits for those special, much-loved visitors and it’s just for them.

It's still known as DD1's room - or DD2's room as she claimed it when DD1 left home. They still argue whose room it is even though they've both been left home for 15+ years.

Like others, it has to be the underfloor heating in our large conservatory. When we moved in we tried it and it took an absolute age to warm up and then was next to useless so it’s never been on since - in the current cost of living climate I wouldn’t dare now anyway! We explored the possibility of fitting a radiator but every plumber we have consulted has said it’s not possible. Who am I to argue? Consequently we rarely use the conservatory in the winter.

Our Water Softener...we've never worked out what the instructions mean.

If it’s electric underfloor heating, stand-alone from the rest of the house, it would indeed be expensive to run, like a big electrically heated mat under the floor, especially in a conservatory which won’t be as well insulated as the rest of the house. I haven’t heard any good reports of that sort of thing. Maybe electric radiators would be better, though not a cheap option.

I moved 3 years ago and reconfigured my whole bungalow to how I would use it, knocking down walls, etc so no room is unused now. I suppose I would say the front door isn't used much because everyone comes to the kitchen window where I usually am and then come in through the garage.
I was out a walk there for walk with the dog and my friends grandson had called with flowers and he had left them at the garage door for me, not the front door ?

Family bathroom, only used when family staying 2/3 times a year. Had fancied taking bath out to have space for a walk in shower room but everyone we spoke with advised against loosing the bath. At least it's easy to clean never being used.

A coffee maker thing you put pods in. My husband used it at first until the novelty wore off ?

The cast iron bath, which DH used occasionally or, perfect for bathing 2 GDs whenever they stayed at ours when they were small enough to fit both of them into it. If the occasion arises to rejig the bathroom, I will toss it.

Agree absolutely, that’s what I want to do. Forget downsizing!

I used to have an exercise bike. All I did was hang clothes on it and dust it (occasionally).

All our rooms are used as we've already drastically downsized. Our four original bedrooms have been repurposed or knocked together to make better use of them.
We now have a big master bedroom with a walk in wardrobe and bathroom. Another small bedroom is now my husband's music/TV room, and the other big bedroom has a slice cut off it for an ensuite shower which my husband loves.
Much more useful for us, still leaving a good bedroom for visitors.
We feel so relieved not to be living in a house that's too large for us any more.

Spiraliza. Saw it in a cupboard the other day and just thought ‘why’?

Caught my hand on my unused one today when reaching into the dark depths of a cupboard. It's now sitting with the pile of goods to be taken to the hospice shop tomorrow

Downstairs shower, although might be very useful in the future if stairs become a problem. It is used for storage at the moment.

All you people getting rid of your baths … I have outrageous arthritis and when I re -did
my bathroom I had to have the bath removed as my husband couldn’t get into to use the shower! Do I have just a shower nie and I hate it! I would pay good money to soak my aches and pains in a bath! None of you can have arthritis!

I totally agree with you. Nothing beats a long soaky bath.

I have arthritis (knees) but getting into and out of a bath is not easy! Yes, soaking my aches and pains might be nice but no can do safely!
