A story to warm the cockles of your heart

Sometimes a news story just lifts me out of the current doom and gloom of energy prices /the tragedy of refugees/ mindless violence/Liz Truss (!)
This was it this morning in the DT
A CHIMPANZEE that escaped from Kharkiv zoo was yesterday wheeled home on a bicycle after strolling around the war-torn city
Chichi, a fully-grown male, was persuaded to abandon its life on the run after a keeper offered it her yellow rain jacket and a warm hug.
Footage of the spectacle brought a rare moment of joy to residents of Ukraine’s second largest city
In video clips Chichi is seen slapping its hands on a car, before scampering into a city square.
A blonde zookeeper can then be seen by his side, apparently pleading with the ape as it sits on its haunches and refuses to move
Only when it starts to rain does Chichi run towards her as she holds out her jacket for him to wear.
The pair embrace before it tries to get its arms through the sleeves
Having had its fill of excitement, Chichi was then put on the seat of a bicycle and pushed home with the help of two passers-by
It just gave me a warm feeling, that sometimes in the darkest situations (Ukraine) there is room for love and a “happy ending”!
(Sorry the pics are fuzzy, that was the quality in the online DT)

Oh yes, I've just read this story to my husband. Lovely tale. We all need some happy news occasionally ?

smile it is sweet, just a minor ramble though.....I think it would frighten me to death grin I once watched a documentary and they were absolutely savage. Do they still train them in captivity? They must do mustn't they? I always remember going to Twy Cross zoo when the children were little and a male chimp aimed his urination all over a poor family of onlookers and I guess it served us all right.

What a lovely heart-warming story Maw I suppose the keeper was afraid the chimp would get shot. I've stopped reading my news reel on my laptop as some of the stories are just so terrible [animal & child cruelty], I don't want them in my head. Thanks for sharing x

What a nice story. So much depressing stuff about that it's good to see people and animals in such a positive way. The chimp is obviously find of his keeper and vice versa.

Well spotted, Maw. Thank you for a cheering moment in an increasingly glum world.

How lovely. And so nice to get away from politics etc.
