I have just watched the King and Queen Consort sit through the Scottish Parliament tributes. Camilla looks tired and as if she is wondering how she is going to cope with her new role. My heart goes out to her. While I sit here, happily retired, enjoying my glass of wine, she has a new role to come to terms with. I for one wish her the best of luck.

I don’t think after Diana’s death anything would have been said about Camilla being/ not being Queen as she and Charles didn’t marry until 2005, 8 years after she died.

It was announced then that in the fullness of time, she would be known as Princess Consort, a silly irrelevant title which I’m sure her husband had no intention of using! It was made even clearer when the late Queen said Queen Consort was her preferred title for Camilla.

She was styled Duchess Of Cornwall as opposed to Princess Of Wales, which she was perfectly entitled to use, as a mark of respect to the late Diana.

Thankfully, Catherine is now Princess Of Wales, which seems so right and I think her late mother in law would whole heartedly approve.

If I remember rightly it was decided after Diana died that because of the situation and peoples outrage at the time of her treatment by Charles and Camilla (we have to remember it takes two to have an affair) that Camilla would never hold the title of queen. I can’t remember who actually made the decision though whether it was queen or government.

I'd be interested to know if those who dislike Camilla and perhaps also Charles have any reason other than the Diana saga?
Is this the only reason many seem to think Charles should step aside and William should be King?

I hope they don't feel they have to be as exciting as Queen Elizabeth. When she became Queen she was a beautiful young woman. Today's King and Queen are an elderly couple. I expect they will have a lot of help from the Prince of Wales.

Maybe the nice young princesses who are Prince Andrew's daughters will do some of the work.

Do you get pleasure out of being so unpleasant, gauntyhelen?
You are way out of order.

Allsorts Tue 13-Sept-22 22:51:32

It's aways hard when someone you love dies. The Queen had a long and happy life and was active until just before she died. The family will cope, all the constant travelling and sitting through more and more official meetings is hard for anyone never mind anyone in their seventies, I wouldn't want it. Hopefully after the funeral, they will get some, time on their own and relax a little.

Saetana Tue 13-Sept-22 22:17:17

Camilla will be called Queen Camilla in time - I think the Queen Consort label is to avoid confusion at the moment with our dear departed Queen Elizabeth. Its the same as Charles being constantly called King Charles the third - it should slip back to just King Charles and Queen Camilla not long after the funeral is over I feel. I do feel for both of them - its an exhausting schedule for anyone, never mind a couple in their 70s. And there is nearly another week of it before they can maybe take a few days to rest and recover.

Then you were extremely fortunate Jaxjacky.

Camilla does indeed look exhausted she also looks out of her depth She is a dreadful fidget and doesn't seem able to control her facial expression Ah well she's made her bed !

Not a kind comment. Nothing but disgusting.

Jaxjacky Tue 13-Sept-22 21:17:58

My work was never so important that I carried on when my Dad died, I was retired when my Mum died.
Camilla and the rest of the family are doing their duty, with love, they look gaunt with grief and the physical effort, they are all admirable ?

Millie22 Tue 13-Sept-22 20:48:53

Camilla is doing well to keep going imo. Yesterday was an incredibly long day for her and Charles.

She did look quite bored during the Scottish parliament talks but then it was err boring.

Harris27 Tue 13-Sept-22 20:41:57

Well said all of the above.

I will just say that Diana did a fair bit of shredding herself. The wives of Will Carling and Oliver Hoare come to mind.

One commentator said that out of respect for the Queen ( until she is buried), Camilla is deemed Queen Consort. After the funeral she will be termed Queen.

I don’t think it’s respect for the Queen. When Charles married Camilla, they announced that she would be called the Princess Consort when he became King, but then, as Bluebelle said, the Queen announced in her Jubilee speech that she wanted Camilla to be called Queen Consort. However, if media don’t start calling her just ‘The Queen’ after a while, I suspect the King may ‘have a word’.

rafichagran Tue 13-Sept-22 20:03:34

I thought that comment was unnecessary GH I have always liked Camilla.

BlueBelle Tue 13-Sept-22 19:52:45

Very nasty grantyHeken

The queen was very fond of Camilla Happycatholic hence the reason she made sure she would be called Queen consort

That is a truly nasty comment and I hope you will reflect and feel thoroughly ashamed of it. I haven’t reported because I hope people will see it and think of you as I do. A disgrace.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 13-Sept-22 19:45:47

Don’t be so harsh on Camilla hcw and don’t think she caused the Queen grief. Diana did that and wasn’t quite the ingenue you think. The Queen and Camilla were very close. Camilla has been very good for Charles and she will be a good Queen. You seem to be another so called Christian who knows nothing of forgiveness and ‘casting the first stone’. I’m aChristian who tries to be mindful of that admonition. To err is human, to forgive (not that you have anything to forgive) is divine.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 13-Sept-22 19:38:42

She might be fidgeting because she gets pain somewhere and it must be so very hard to keep going day after day, having people shake my painful hands, listening to near enough the same speeches. I hope after the funeral they will be left to grieve in private. As for GrannyHelens post I won’t say anything because it will be deleted.

AGAA4 Tue 13-Sept-22 19:33:29

I think that once this awful week for them is over and things settle Camilla will do well in her new role.
She does look the part.

happycatholicwife1 Tue 13-Sept-22 19:32:29

I felt so badly for the Queen. It's a constant reminder every time I see Andrew of how his foolishness must have hurt his mother. I'm not too worried about Charles. I just hope he is able to manage his comments and keep his constitutional objectivity the way his mother did. I must confess, I'm not impressed with Camilla. She caused the Queen and everybody else a good bit of grief. She knew what was coming when she took this on, unlike Diana, whom I feel Camilla basically just shredded like so much leftover. lumber.
