I have just watched the King and Queen Consort sit through the Scottish Parliament tributes. Camilla looks tired and as if she is wondering how she is going to cope with her new role. My heart goes out to her. While I sit here, happily retired, enjoying my glass of wine, she has a new role to come to terms with. I for one wish her the best of luck.

I don’t think after Diana’s death anything would have been said about Camilla being/ not being Queen as she and Charles didn’t marry until 2005, 8 years after she died.

It was announced then that in the fullness of time, she would be known as Princess Consort, a silly irrelevant title which I’m sure her husband had no intention of using! It was made even clearer when the late Queen said Queen Consort was her preferred title for Camilla.

She was styled Duchess Of Cornwall as opposed to Princess Of Wales, which she was perfectly entitled to use, as a mark of respect to the late Diana.

Thankfully, Catherine is now Princess Of Wales, which seems so right and I think her late mother in law would whole heartedly approve.

Well said GrauntyHelen! Don't let the Gransnet brigade silence you! Like the republicans are being silenced. This is still supposed to be a democratic country despite Johnson's best efforts.

Camilla certainly helped him yesterday when she had to take charge of the leaky pen situ in Ireland

King Charles has been seen airing his frustration during a ceremony for the second time in four days while in Northern Ireland.

The new monarch was shown signing a visitor’s book in front of cameras at Hillsborough Castle, near Belfast. He reacted after the pen he was using leaked on him.

“Oh god I hate this (pen)!” Charles said, standing up and handing the pen to his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort.

“Oh look, it’s going everywhere,” Camilla said as her husband wiped his fingers.

“I can’t bear this bloody thing … every stinking time,” Charles said as he walked away.

When completing the documents on Tuesday he also used the wrong date, before checking with an aide who told him it was 13 September not 12 September.

Just shows he is a human being who is exhausted and stressed because his loved mother has died.

JaneJudge Wed 14-Sept-22 08:35:37

Hopefully no one will ask him to use a home printer live on air as I suspect it would be carnage

I agree he is only human btw

Very hard for them with all that standing around and giving speeches a few days after the death of his mother.
You would want a bit of peace and quiet really, and they have to dress up formally and travel to different places.

Zoejory Wed 14-Sept-22 08:44:58

Maybe Charles could bring his own pen in future .

Since his home printer would probably work, as making sure of that is someone’s job, I don’t think there’d be a problem. Knowing that millions of people are watching ready to criticise you when something goes wrong would make probably make a saint tetchy.

Well said GrauntyHelen! Don't let the Gransnet brigade silence you! Like the republicans are being silenced. This is still supposed to be a democratic country despite Johnson's best efforts.

The "Gransnet brigade"? Who dat?...

There's a variety of opinions on GN. I personally interact with some whose views are quite opposite to mine, and I like their GN persona in spite of that!

It's not what you say, it's the way that you say it. It doesn't really need to be spelled out. As a republican, no-one has tried to censor me. We are not being silenced.

I agree with these posts. We are all allowed our own thoughts, and should freely be allowed to express them.
Where are the Democratic principles we are all so proud of being British?
Why ask for people's ideas if they are going to be subject to criticism and censored by a group of Monarchists?
We will all be talked about on Mumsnet next.
Freedom for all to express themselves.

The King appears exhausted and stressed and it’s beginning to show. Have some kindness towards them and think how you would feel with all that they have to do.

On Sunday he has to have the heads of state at Buck house

Charles should stand down like the Duke of Windsor did.
Princess Anne should be the next monarch.
She would make an excellent Queen.
History has proved this in the past.

The whole point of the monarchy is that you don’t and can’t pick and choose!

henetha Wed 14-Sept-22 10:18:29

I cannot see any good reason why King Charles should step down.

Callistemon21 Wed 14-Sept-22 10:22:37

At least some posts can make us ?

Oh dear, for missing the whole pint of a hereditary monarchy this come close to 10/10.
I see no reason for what you suggest and suspect the vast majority of the population woukd agree, but the issue is not up for grabs, so while you are entitled to your views, there is no “should” about it.

Why the rush to do all these things? It is clearly taking a toll on him and surely as King he can have some say in it. It is in danger of turning into a farce.

I agree

Honestly, some of the posts on here lack any compassion at all.

We had a difficult situation with someone after MIL died and DH said to her firmly "Can you at least wait until after I have buried my mother?". She had the grace to agree.

Callistemon21 Wed 14-Sept-22 10:37:38

And we didn't have the cameras and the world's press scrutinising our every move and people on forums analysing it.

Sandy73 Wed 14-Sept-22 10:51:02

Shows how amazing the Queen was - rarely (never?) showed herself as tetchy

Anniebach Wed 14-Sept-22 10:54:07

Anne is 16th in line of succession, 15 would have to abdicate
for her to become Queen.

Joseanne Wed 14-Sept-22 10:54:42

I've noticed newspapers over here, in France, (I now have a stash as I'm not at home), are actually very complimentary towards Camilla.
Of course there is the odd headline "De maîtresse à Reine" to tickle some readers, but on the whole the articles about Camilla speak of a discreet and supportive presence.
Quelle métamorphose pour cette femme de 75ans, considérée il y a trente ans comme une paria, une menace pour la monarchie britannique!
What a metamorphosis for this 75 year old woman, who 30 years ago was considered a pariah and a threat to the British monarchy.

Yes, it seems strange- all the past debates and arguments about Camilla’s title when Charles ascended the throne.

Now ‘Queen Consort’ or ‘Queen’ seems to be accepted by most people without a murmur.

And why not? That is who she now is.
