I have just watched the King and Queen Consort sit through the Scottish Parliament tributes. Camilla looks tired and as if she is wondering how she is going to cope with her new role. My heart goes out to her. While I sit here, happily retired, enjoying my glass of wine, she has a new role to come to terms with. I for one wish her the best of luck.

Yes Sue I felt the same when my daughter died this year, I just couldn’t face anyone let alone let people know she had died. So I just put a bit on Facebook to friends who knew it but I couldn’t take their phone calls. But a holiday did help

She does look knackered.

I think she hasn't physically aged well - many women in their mid-70s look active and sprightly, whereas Camilla looks to be plodding along and like she'd rather be somewhere else.

But she's gonna have to get on with it!

SueDonim Mon 12-Sept-22 19:37:08

Rather her than me, for sure. It must be so hard on Charles and Camilla to have be in the public gaze so much. I guess this is new territory, even when Diana died we didn’t have the social media and 24hr news that we have today.

I remember after my father and my sister died I was in an utter daze, even though both deaths were expected. After my sister’s funeral I swear I sat and stared blankly at a wall for three days, my emotions were so overwhelmed.

They do both look so tired. I thought Camilla looked exhausted.
I wish them well and hope shortly they will get some time to themselves and to recover.

Charles must be thanking his lucky stars that Camilla married him, she will be his ‘strength and stay’ and I was originally very anti her in the Diana days.

I like Camilla too. She has worked quietly and just got on with the job in the last few years. I think she will be a rock for the new King. My heart goes out to them both having all these ceremonial duties to perform whilst they are heartbroken.
Wishing them strength and love in the days ahead.

sodapop Mon 12-Sept-22 19:26:57

Even though Camilla knew this day would come I don't think she was fully prepared for the grief, the ceremonial duties etc. Must be overwhelming for both of them. I agree it's a big responsibility to take on in your seventies. I have been struck too by her dignity and composure when she was the object of derision and dislike. I wish the new King and his Queen Consort well in the future.

She’s saying goodbye to the life she had, the new one won’t be as easy.
Poor woman.

A very exhausting schedule for them probably made worse because the Queen died in Scotland. They are used to the pomp and ceremony and hiding their true feelings. Everyone has a hard time between the death of a loved one and the funeral- theirs is even worse as all are on public view throughout. All of them will be so relieved when the funeral and the public ceremonials are all over, and the media back off.

midgey Mon 12-Sept-22 19:10:11

Just today must have been exhausting never mind what has already gone before and what is still to come.

henetha Mon 12-Sept-22 18:59:17

Yes, I too was struck by how tired she looks. I do hope they can have a day off amongst all this grieving and having to cope with all the ceremonial events too. I wouldn't be in their shoes for anything.

Sar53 Mon 12-Sept-22 18:56:50

I said to DH that her and the King have had a very long, emotional day today. Hopefully they will both sleep well tonight.

rafichagran Mon 12-Sept-22 18:56:01

I like Camilla and I wish her well.

Mine Mon 12-Sept-22 18:52:38

Poor Camilla..My heart goes out to her...What a role to have to take on at her age...She looked so frail and nervous today...Is there a reason why all this pomp and ceremony couldn't have been held back till Queen Elizabeth's funeral was over..

Lexisgranny Mon 12-Sept-22 18:48:38

Initially I had many misgivings about Camilla, but I have changed my mind totally. She does a lot of work, largely unsung. It seems every few days you hear in a roundabout way what she has been doing, but it rarely makes the front page.

She has a hard road ahead, and given the Queen Mother’s longevity, probably thought she had a few more years as the wife of the heir. Both she and the King look exhausted, but there are so many things that will have to be done before the late Queen’s funeral and I don’t think have had time yet to process their grief after their great loss,

I wish her luck and I hope she has the strength and fortitude to support the King. Most of us at their age are enjoying retirement.

crazyH Mon 12-Sept-22 18:47:50

They must be soooooooooo tired. How do they do it ?

Barmeyoldbat Mon 12-Sept-22 18:47:42

I really feel sorry for both of the taking on this role I your 70s and having to deal with your grief as well. Ijusthope that after all this they can have time to themselves.

Aveline Mon 12-Sept-22 18:41:17

Such an overwhelming programme of events while coming to terms with their bereavement. I hope they'll have time to relax and recover a bit after next Monday.

Zoejory Mon 12-Sept-22 18:40:35

I'm not surprised she looks tired. This next few days will be incredibly difficult. They all look shattered. Poor Zara has been pictured looking devastated. The RF are a close family and this is a momentous loss.

She's by his side and this time next week they will all have a week of private mourning. But at the moment it's hell for them all.

The whole thing seems too much for a grieving couple in their 70s.

LauraNorderr Mon 12-Sept-22 18:37:20

I join you FranA in wishing her luck. I admire and respect her, she has faced the angry storms of public opinion in the past and weathered them with fortitude and dignity winning over so many. I don’t envy her this new role especially at this time of life when many of us can sit back and enjoy a life of freedom and relaxation in retirement.
Good luck to our Queen Consort, Camilla.?

buffyfly9 Mon 12-Sept-22 18:33:57

FranA, I couldn't agree more, she looks exhausted and stressed to hell and back. Who wouldn't be after the hectic schedule that has been imposed upon her though I suppose she knew this day would come. I am not a monarchist but I wish her well, Charles will certainly need her support.

JaneJudge Mon 12-Sept-22 18:31:55

I suspect like many women, she has taken on the emotional turmoil of her loved ones alongside her own grief and I don't even care if that comment is sexist.
