Paying respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11

I would have loved to attend the Lying in State but couldn't possibly cope with all the walking and standing. We signed the book in our beautiful local church and laid flowers in the churchyard in the appointed place. I daresay we shall watch every inch of coverage in our holiday cottage in Northumbria on Monday.

I’m not sure why walking past a coffin is “paying respects” ? What does that even mean? I have seen the flowers in Green Park and yes, it was very moving and tastefully done -I’m glad I went (with a friend I was meeting nearby anyway) to witness an historic event. I know the Queen was an icon and I liked her style, but some of the crowds along the route clapping ,yelling and holding up phones - doesn’t look respectful to me. I am in two minds about lining the route on the day of the funeral - my friend wants me to go with her - I’m still thinking about that one.

We live in Wales but most things are centred on Cardiff. As we live quite a distance from there we shall not see anything. If they came near ish I would certainly make the effort to go.

This is my take on the queens death. It makes me feel very sad because it brings back the grief of my grandmother's death. She too died at 96 and felt herself always to be living on borrowed time.

However there is something about the British psyche that we love to punish ourselves by queuing for hours in the rain. Something I have never understood. Like my gran I am a very practical person. If I cant see what I will gain from doing a thing then I dont do it.

I left immediately after the burial and did not even attend my grandmother's wake. Standing around with a lot of relations - some of which I had not seen for years - was the very last thing I wanted to do do. Instead I went into work. My gran would have understood that.

Makes sense I suppose Molly There was a picture in the paper today of a chap in the middle of the police outriders and escort vehicles trying to get a photograph of the King. Madness!

We live in Anglesey and will sign the memorial book in our local church. I can’t believe how sad I feel.

I am lucky to have seen her many many times passing through my home village, and will keep those living memories of her.

As much as I respected The Queen, I just do not 'get' this need to queue for hours to quickly pass by a coffin. Respect, love, care, flowers, is for people during their life ...

But if it brings you peace, then of course I'll respect that decision too.

I would love to go to London and pay my respects, but it's beyond me now. I've been lucky enough to have seen her Majesty a few times and loved her beautiful smile. I hope she is reunited with her beloved Philip.

We went to St Giles today. It was a beautiful day and I feel privileged that we were able to pay our respects. have just watched the plane take off. Goodbye Your Majesty and thank you.

I’m very lucky to be able to just take 5 min walk to the A40 where she will pass by at around 7pm.

I've just looked at the route tanith and it's not passing near me but I expect to see/hear the various helicopters that will be providing the aerial views.

This afternoon I went to see the flowers in Green Park - the front of Buckingham Palace has been cleared of all flowers and they've been moved to Green Park, plastic wrappings removed, and beautifully placed in displays on the ground and around the trees. All very quiet, a calm air about the place and a lovely atmosphere. My photos don't do it justice!

Like Smileless2012, we won’t have the opportunity as they cancelled the train journey.
However, plans to send the train to Scotland were scrapped amid fears that the route would be disrupted by crowds of trespassers and protesters, The Telegraph reported.

The paper said a palace source said the decision, made to ensure safety and security, had been taken on the advice of numerous organisations, including police, government departments and local councils.
In the interests of safety and also respect, it’s probably a wise decision.

I know the idea was dismissed, but I think a lot of people up here (NE) would have turned out to see her, had HM been taken from Edinburgh to London on the Royal train.

no, am too old and unsteady on my feet nowadays.Living in London I expect many neighbours will go and pay their respects though. apart from anything else it is an historical experience.
I cannot imagine being stuck in a huge crowd I must say.

Certainly would if I was nearer. I was going to go to London for the Coronation with my mother and grandmother, but it was cancelled at the last minute through illness.

I was very moved by a comment made by someone in the queue waiting outside St Giles cathedral. When I asked if he knew that he was likely to queue for 12 hours, he replied that the Queen gave 79 years service, so he was quite prepared to give her 12 hours.

I live in rural Wales so won't see it.
I once saw Prince Charles pass my cottage on his way to open a new country park many years ago.
That's the closest I have ever been to royalty.

I saw the cortege arrive into Edinburgh and again on it's way to the airport. My SiL went to the vigil during the night. Thought it would be quieter then. His mistake!

We wont have the opportunity unfortunately tanith but would if we could.
