I don’t because I don’t eat meat, but wondered if it is a popular food item?

Elusivebutterfly Sat 17-Sept-22 21:09:10

I've never liked spam or similar meats such as luncheon meat. It's years since anyone in the family has eaten any of it.

I must go around with my eyes closed

Spam is tinned as a brand name. You can buy the same thing as slices where there put the wafer thin ham and corned beef, but it has a different name whichever supermarket you use

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-Sept-22 18:42:45

I didn’t realise it still existed. I’ve never seen it. I guess it is tinned?

I think we had it at school with salad.

I have never tasted spam but the image of a meal of spam fritters or any food really served with beans makes me nauseous. I can’t even look at beans! Just YUK!
Yes, I am an oddity. ?

Barmeyoldbat Sat 17-Sept-22 18:33:29

No, no, never, I don’t like corn beef or chopped ham or anything like that, far to much fat in them

Yammy Sat 17-Sept-22 18:26:46

No, I don't like Spam I was put off at school with Spam fritters. They used to lie heavy and someone usually vomited on the 8-mile bus journey home.
DH assures me there was nothing better after a game of Rugby, spam fritters , chips and baked beans.

Daddima Sat 17-Sept-22 17:51:21

I love Spam,me, and was just looking at this comparison yesterday.

Strangely enough, no sign of the lumps of fat mentioned on here, unlike the own brand one.

Mollygo Sat 17-Sept-22 17:45:47

DH likes it, though we often buy Sainsbury’s Chopped ham and pork. I don’t mind a wafer thin slice-but that’s it!

Maggiemaybe Sat 17-Sept-22 16:55:51

I used to love spam fritters at school. I can't remember it ever being on offer at home and I never buy it now. I do occasionally have a hot spam sandwich if it's on the menu at a cafe, and I still enjoy it. I can't imagine it cold though....

PollyDolly Sat 17-Sept-22 16:47:20

NO! I have dreadful memories of Spam fritters served up at school dinners.......coated in soggy batter and dripping in fat! I have heart burn just thinking about them!

Fleurpepper Sat 17-Sept-22 16:43:08

NO

pandapatch Sat 17-Sept-22 16:05:05

NO!!!

MiniMoon Sat 17-Sept-22 15:50:46

Greyduster ??

I have several tins of Spam in my kitchen cupboard, along with the same amount of corned beef and tuna.
My DH does the shopping and has been stocking up, just in case!

MrsKen33 Sat 17-Sept-22 15:44:20

Yes, not a fan myself but DH loves it fried with an egg for lunch…..Yuk

ginny Sat 17-Sept-22 15:30:21

Oh no, revolting . It also smells disgusting.

MayBee70 Sat 17-Sept-22 15:23:39

Not exactly Spam but in my late teens I travelled round Europe with my then boyfriend and we lived on something similar to Spam called Tudor Queen. We had tins and tins of it along with packet soup and used to have it in a salad with locally bought tomatoes. Strangely enough I’ve been thinking about it recently. I assume there was even less meat in it than Spam. It was probably some sort of potato starch coloured pink ( it was VERY pink).

25Avalon Sat 17-Sept-22 15:18:04

Yes, dh loves it although I often get Sainsburys chopped ham and pork instead.

Do you remember the Monty Python sketch in the cafe where Spam was on the menu and obligatory? You could have spam, eggs and spam, eggs spam and spam, or spam spam and spam. Seemed hilarious at the time especially when said in a screechy voice by I think it was Eric Idle.

EkwaNimitee Sat 17-Sept-22 15:11:35

DH and I used to eat it regularly when we were a young, poverty stricken family. Then for years we forgot about it until I spotted some and bought it. Yuk! Both of us found it far too salty having gone low salt for years. I spotted some this morning in Sainsburys so it’s still on the go.

Grannybags Sat 17-Sept-22 15:08:29

Yuk no!

Charleygirl5 Sat 17-Sept-22 15:08:08

I hate it and I would add corned beef to the hate list

Blossoming Sat 17-Sept-22 15:05:24

Yes, we both eat it though not often. Useful standby. Grilled in the Ninja usually.

JaneJudge Sat 17-Sept-22 14:59:21

I must admit my dirty secret and that is that I like M&S tinned ham blush

Hellogirl1 Sat 17-Sept-22 14:57:15

Hate it, way too fatty. I do like other types of luncheon meat and chopped ham and pork, just not Spam.

Auntieflo Sat 17-Sept-22 14:57:08

Meant to say "Spam Fritters" were a midweek staple.
