Just thinking, people all over the world are watching this at the same time. A rare event. . Many of us here in Australia are watching, certainly.

Apparently the funeral plan was finalised years ago so could it not have been left to the subset of people who are aid to run these things? Perhaps now our so-called govenment can get back to the vital business of dealing with the cost of living and fuel crisis.

How beautifully done; every single moment. So much was touching, and caused tears, but for me, like some other posters, it was watching the sceptre, orb and finally the Imperial State Crown removed from Her Majesty's coffin. She then became simply an old lady, being laid to her final rest. I remember a beautiful young woman when, as a small child, I watched her taking the orb and sceptre in her hands, and the crown being placed upon her head.

I think the clapping started at Lady Dianas funeral when her brother had a bit of a go at the royals and the people outside who heard it on the speakers clapped in support of Dianas brother. Then later you had the dead soldiers being brought back from Afghanistan and the old soldiers held their British Legion flags at half mast in SILENT TRIBUTE. Then crowds started getting in on it and shouting and clapping. The worst of it was that the TV cameras filmed these ignoramus's and gave them time on our televisions. So I blame the BBC for this awful behavior. I did notice yesterday that the bands were loud enough to drown the happy clappers out. There is never a time for clapping at a funeral. Never.

It was a stunning, flawless performance and a very moving tribute to our dear Queen but I dread to think of the financial impact to our future economy... not saying it shouldn't have taken place...

The financial impact on our economy is probably negligible. Most of the money spent will return to the Treasury by way of taxation. It may well have helped some struggling businesses which have supplied goods and services for the event.

It is not money that has disappeared down a big black hole. It will be circulating in our economy and benefitting people.

Clapping was a surprise but people wanted to be heard, to let the Queen and her family know they were here for them. Clapping was all they could do, plus many of them would have been so cold and tired! Good for them I say!!

My daughter wanted me to go into the city with her to watch it on a huge screen, but I decided to watch at home just sitting on the settee. Apart from a brief break to walk my dog, I watched all of it ( on ITV - they did a great job) and was moved right through from start to finish.
The parents of those young men who carried the coffin must be so very proud. Everything was perfect and the fact that the Queen herself helped to prepare the day, made it even more moving.

I wondered if the Queens spirit had been up in the rafters, what she would have thought! Probably very proud of what her country did for her?

I've overdosed healthily on royalty and need to get back to my own life today
This made me laugh. ?

I was going to post something similar last night but thought it best to wait until today.

I think each country could only have two representatives, simply because of space. The pipes are still going round in my head.

According to this post, no. www.townandcountrymag.com/society/politics/a41245384/donald-trump-barack-obama-george-bush-queen-elizabeth-memorial/

Were the Obamas there?

It went like clockwork. The music for the service was rather bland, the piper being the most moving. Prince Philip had Elgar’s Nimrod, which reduces me to tears. The marching bands excellent, although they played the same pieces over and over.
Baroness Scotland sounded like a robot.
I’ve overdosed unhealthily on royalty and need to get back to my own life today.

Lovetopaint037 Tue 20-Sept-22 09:34:47

It was perfect. Every movement. Every choice of music ,readings and the Archbishops address was so apt and thoughtful.

Namsnanny Mon 19-Sept-22 22:51:19

Yes I agree, it's only a very insignificant thing overall.

I cant stop watching/listening to the bagpipes on youtube.
Especially the lone piper.

The whole 10 days have been so poignant.

M0nica Mon 19-Sept-22 21:52:36

To be honest I though that Baronesses Scotland read her piece quite badly, far too slow, so that meaning got lost. Liz Truss did much better.

However given the world attention and precision of the whole event if one actually notices something like this, it says how perfect everything was.

MayBee70 Mon 19-Sept-22 21:48:17

I’ve just done my nightly walk and todays music was going round in my head. The music, Big Ben, the cannons firing and then the other bell at Windsor were strangely hypnotic.

Namsnanny Mon 19-Sept-22 21:46:35

Ooops! blush Baroness Scotland, not Countess as I said.
Thanks welbeck
Interesting comments by your friend too.

Deedaa Mon 19-Sept-22 21:36:19

I rather liked the way Black Rod was involved in a lot of it. A woman with a stick telling men what to do!

I watched the drive from London to Windsor with DS - rather to my surprise because he isn't much of a monarchist. He was very disapproving of people clapping but, as he delivers all round Ascot and Windsor, he was very useful for pointing out which route they were taking "See they've just gone past the entrance I showed you for Frogmore Cottage" and so on.

welbeck Mon 19-Sept-22 21:25:21

an overseas friend who knows nothing of our traditions, was asking me who people were, and about the ceremony, why they were doing things.
she commented that the PM read well, with feeling, whereas she said baroness scotland was proud and didn't have the right spirit.
which i thought was interesting.

Callistemon it certainly is impressive. I thought the whole thing, the aerial views of inside the Abbey and the aerial views of London and the Chapel was just wonderful. Apparently the Maori King was invited but I saw no mention of him, or did I miss that as well?

I thought I saw the Maori king wearing his regalia fairfraise

I was disappointed in the countess of scotland wearing a colourful pashmina.
Made her look entitled imv.
Not what the occasion was about.

I did wonder how the Royal women coped when they had to stand on the grass, between services.
Their high heels must have sank and picked up mud and grass!

It was an absolute triumph in every way.

The queue where normal Brits (mainly, but some lovely people from over seas too) showed the world what we are really like.

The bagpipes, the flawless work by the forces, and much more.

So very well done.

M0nica Mon 19-Sept-22 20:52:59

With so many eminent people invited I doubt we saw the half of them, but then the day was not about who was there in other other than a general sense and the BBC made very little attempt to identify anyone outside the Royal Family and those involved in the services and processions. Congregation views were, infrequent and mainly birds eye and didn't really focus on anyone in particular. It was all about the late Queen, the grief of her family and all the millions or ordinary people in this country and overseas who shared their grief at the loss of this remarkable woman.

fairfraise Mon 19-Sept-22 20:51:51

Thankyou Monica . It was all very well arranged.

No one does it better than the British ?
