I suppose if it is adverts for a business it is helpful and not the same as say PM someone on Gransnet about their spelling which be out of order

This is true.
Corrections to posters on threads or private messages are both out of order though.

I am just so very happy I am not, like you, God's Representative on Earth, for spelling mistakes grin. Carry on, Ijustwantpeace2020, your nomenclature is presumably ironic?

I think that pulling anyone up for wrong spellings on a forum or laughing about it, as one or two posters do on Gransnet is the height of rudeness. It could be dyslexia, a less than good education or a slip of the finger when posting.I have seen many mistakes including my own at times, and also mistakes from the very posters who tend to laugh at others for it.

Thank you. I would never want to embarrass anyone which is why I did private message two people. They said they were grateful for being told as their adverts could have been misconstrued by using the wrong word. Having seen your comments I won’t do it again.

One of my pet hates is “Chest of Draws.”.
The other one is “I could of”.

I usually just let it go, but the other day, I saw an ad for an English tutor, offering tutoring and proof reading. With a glaring mistake in the middle of her advert. I added a comment pointing out the error. I don't usually, but if you're selling your language skills, you really need to get it right!

I thought this was a joke thread!

For someone who calls her/himself Ijustwantpeace you're giving yourself a lot of grief over nothing

I agree with Willow3.

However a friend who writes very good poetry self published a book, and it had lots of spelling errors. Such a shame. I wish she had asked someone to read through it first.

not writing for a newspaper or as a professional job

I've just finished a book on Kindle which was so badly written with spelling mistakes I wanted to re-edit it.
Apparently the riders used reigns to control the horses.

I love your spelling mistakes ? They literally make me laugh out loud, keep them coming.

Callistemon21 Fri 30-Sept-22 20:07:49

Someone could be dyslexic

^i’ve felt the impulse to private message^
How rude. Please try and curb that impulse if it apply to me.

If I misspelled anything it's autocorrect not me

Bare with, bare with

I have got brain fog at times and can't always spell correctly or make a slip and too tired to spot it. I do google to check long words. It doesn't bother me personally: it's not long term.

However supposing it's a poster who is beginning to get more serious memory lapses? Has not had the benefit of the education some of us have had?

It could really hurt someone's feelings and put them off posting. We're here having natters, not writing for a newspaper or as a professional job.

People talking about caravans make me smile, especially when they say how many "births" a caravan has, rather than "berths"!

Callistemon21 Fri 30-Sept-22 19:41:44

I thought this was going to be about something important.

sodapop Fri 30-Sept-22 19:41:02

Poor spelling grates on me as well but I would never be so rude as to correct anyone. For some posters English is a second language so there are bound to be errors. I can generally spell correctly but it's a whole different ball game with numbers, any post of mine dealing with numbers would be littered with mistakes.
Just have to use Pedant's corner to vent Ijustwantpeace

Mollygo Fri 30-Sept-22 19:40:14

Let it go and have a private smile at the image it produces. Unless you’re on the pedant thread.

welbeck Fri 30-Sept-22 19:36:11

very funny

Ijustwantpeace2020 Fri 30-Sept-22 19:30:25

I really hate bad spelling and sometimes the words might sound the same but mean completely different things. On a couple of occasions I’ve felt the impulse to private message (so as not to cause embarrassment), and politely let them know. (Bare with and bear with come to mind?). Do any of you do this or should I just let it go?
