FOUL mess on front garden

One of the gardens I do has lots of fox poo. I always pick it as I would if it was any other mess. The gardeners a woose, look for another one.

My tough little Mum used to rush out and abuse the owners of dogs that pooed and weed up against her front garden gate. I would just die laughing, she was so funny. They did listen to her, though. She was one scary lady.

It was very funny shinamae because I d only just bought the thing from Amazon and a few days later there was a cat with it’s backside practically up it I took a photo and sent the item and the photo back to Amazon and got an immediate refund
Wherever I put anything strong smelling they go somewhere new it drives me crackers

I’d be very tempted to sit up one night and watch and bang on the window You can bet it’s about 10/11 o’clock when it gets taken for it’s night time poo/wee
Dogs are easier to deter than cats as they don’t climb and jump over walls some thorny bushes or rose cut offs at the edge of your garden

Personally I d tackle the human on the end of the lead

My cats were pooing in my big plant pots. I read that they do not like strong smelling oils so I got some cotton wool and put on some clove oil the really strong smelling stuff and the cat now jumps in sniffs around and jumps out, citronella is just as good if not better but it has to be the proper strong oil to keep the smell there and I top it up every week..

DH got a sonic thing that emits a noise to deter dogs, cats etc. Trouble is all my AC and DGC can hear this and is painful to their ears. DH and I can't hear it ?

Could you afford to have your front garden paved, or gravelled or similar? A front gate to keep shut? If not, you are probably going to have to bite the bullet, and go out once or twice a week with rubber gloves, a small spade /trowel and a plastic bag, and clear it up yourself. A camera may show what's happening , but it won't necessarily help you catch the offender at the right moment, especially if you have reduced mobility.

Just to say that I use large tongs to pick up my own dogs mess, it’s a lot easier than little shovels… I also keep a jug outside with disinfectant and water in and that is changed every day…

The filthy person who has started leaving their dog's poo on the cut through path all the Mum's use to take their children to school will see them painted red tomorrow. I've got a criminal spray and gave all three of the blobs, separated by about 3 m, a good spraying this morning. What a disgusting person, what must their house be like.

Hi Bea. How revolting, I can understand why you are so upset.

Someone let their apparently very large dog mess right at the bottom of our drive in the middle of the pavement yesterday.
We are en route to various primary schools, so it could have caused a right mess with the little children and pushchairs.
DH flicked it into the road. Bleurgh

Unless it absolutely stinks to high heaven, it’s unlikely that it’s foxes.
I think that you would have noticed it before.

Just a thought, I don’t really know about this, so I could be totally wrong - but if it’s HA, couldn’t the housing association or council do something about it?
And as there is such a lot of mess, is it a environmental health issue?
It doesn’t seem at all fair that you’ve got to deal with it.

Are you sure that someone isn't feeding a fox ?
Normally their poop is black and tarry ,but if fed on dog or human food -it can look different .
The front part of our garden is open and easy access for dogs .
I've found Jeyes fluid can deter them , but I use it on the drive not the garden .
Otherwise , I use lemon/orange peel/black pepper/chilli powder to deter cats and dogs .
The rain washes it away .

My neighbour has four cats and it's the only time that we've had some slightly heated words ( she asked me why I was buying Jeyes fluid when we went to the plant nursery ) in an otherwise harmonious relationship .

I'd like a fence right across the front garden as it would be more private anyway , but cats and foxes will still negotiate it .

I'm planting another hedge of pink and red Quince at the side of the front garden .
The white Quince on the other side looks nice and has been admired .

If that fails, then they shouldn’t still have a dog. Picking up your dog’s mess is part and parcel of being a dog owner.

I had this problem. With a spade I scooped up the mess and put it in the middle of the pavement. Didn’t like doing it but it worked. Another time when I found a pile of poo on the path I used a coloured spray and drew a circle around it. Owners need to be shamed.

When I moved to this house I had the same problem, identified and watched for the owner who exercised the dogs like clockwork. Their excuse was they couldn’t pick up for health reasons. (which looked true). I knew they had their own garden and (outrageously ?) suggested they use that as a toilet - not mine. Several weeks later I put up a very large sign, painted on a gigantic cardboard box, on the chosen spot, saying “this is not a dog’s toilet”. It took a week but in the end it stopped. Take courage and go for it knowing you are in the right.

If you can, put holly and rose clippings, or other thorny garden trimmings along the edge of the property, including across the entrance. Would someone do this for you?

It is a disgusting habit and getting worse.

Get a Ring doorbell Bea65, it can record up to 30 foot. When you catch the disgusting person tear them off a strip, your garden isn't a dog toilet.

A fence with gate would be ideal however, am on a corner of main road and property is semi-detached with neighbours parking space to the right of garden...am also in HA property which would need approval to change anything..I nearly fell over yesterday as have poor balance and today can hardly move..its just a bit more stress on body and mind that I now need to keep looking out of window..

Sorry to hear about your problem Bea65. We have the same problem here and it has got worse in the last 2 years. We have small front garden with fence and then pavement. Dog mess on pavement where everyone walks.
We use chilli flakes on our garden to deter both cats and dogs.
It does seem to work, obviously we cannot use on pavement. I think, it's the evening dog walkers who are on their phones completely ignoring their dogs.
It realty makes me angry, why have a dog if you are not going to pick up after them.

Aww this is disgusting! And I’m sorry to hear you are having this problem! Are you able to afford a fence round the front garden Bea, dogs should be kept on a lead at all times in public places ours certainly are, irresponsible owners allowing their dogs to do this.

I am sorry to hear about this mess in your front garden. It happened to my front garden, too. I have found that lemon /citrus juice works, I put slices or halves of lemons (even after use) around the grass as well as crushed chillies. So far this regime seems to work, no cat or dog’s mess for years. I refresh the chillies periodically and gather up/replace the lemon slices after a while. I buy large packs of crushed chillies and just sprinkle it from the bag across the whole lawn and borders. Hope this helps.

My first thought would be preventing access to the garden. Do you have a fence Bea65?
