I’ve been waiting for years for this news but finally it’s in, my eldest is expecting a new baby in the new year.
My eldest was born in ‘82 so you can imagine I’d almost given up hope of any but surrogate grandchildren coming my way.
I’m allowed to choose what to be called as it’s the first but I’m happy to go with whatever (within reason). In my head I’m crying with joy “I’m going to be a granny” so probably should be that ?‍♀️

Congratulations. How wonderful. I am still waiting. Son & DIL recently got married after 2 postponements due to covid. I've got my fingers crossed.

Congratulationsthanks I know exactly how you feel. My DD struggled for several years to get pregnant and when she eventually announced the wonderful news I felt I would explode with happiness. I too was allowed to choose my ‘new name’ and I also became a granny. It’s everything you’re hoping it will be. It’s the most magical experience and a privilege getting to know this new little person. I believe grandparents and grandchildren have a unique relationship! I’m so happy for yousmile

oh what lovely news for you, congratulations to all involved. I have No10 due on Feb.
Nothing beats the feeling even this many in as a new life to love and help to nurture.
They bring so much joy and pleasure as they grow and develop into little personalities, even with their temper tantrums and the modern thoughts on parenting

Congratulations. I didn't want to confuse my grandsons as the other nanny had bagged first dibs for the role , so I am Nana which is OK for me. My friend is called mum-mum by hers which means mum's mum . I quite like that.

Congratulations and to the mum and dad to be.
Although one of mine lives in NZ she often sends me such warning messages on her mobile, if she hasn’t gone and lost it!
While the other two have a Tanzanian mum so I don’t see them that much but they still give me a lot of comfort especially as my husband passed away many years sgo.

My daughter was born in 1973 and at the age of 45 made us grandparents! We were so happy when he arrived and he is now 3 and a super little boy (of course!) Happily for us our son (born 1984)and his wife made us grandparents again in 2021 - an adorable little girl.
Congratulations Dogsmother - enjoy every moment of being a granny! And congratulations to Mikkima too! smile

Wonderful to have such lovely news, dogsmother! Can I also wish the mother to be an uneventful pregnancy and labour. Are prayers allowed? Never sure - so asking.

henetha Sun 09-Oct-22 11:18:53

Oh it's wonderful isn't it. I well remember the joy and excitement of the first grandchild being born.
Congratulations to all.

Buffy Sun 09-Oct-22 11:17:53

My daughter’s left it late but we ‘suddenly’ went from giving up hope to having five grandchildren. It’s wonderful for us but the downside is that older mother’s don’t have as much energy.
Enter grandmas to help out.

Lovely news and congratulations. In our family we had Granny, for both of them but if we were talking about them at home we would say Granny followed by the surname to differentiate between to two. Lots to look forward to and I wish you all joy
