I’ve been waiting for years for this news but finally it’s in, my eldest is expecting a new baby in the new year.
My eldest was born in ‘82 so you can imagine I’d almost given up hope of any but surrogate grandchildren coming my way.
I’m allowed to choose what to be called as it’s the first but I’m happy to go with whatever (within reason). In my head I’m crying with joy “I’m going to be a granny” so probably should be that ?‍♀️

Mikkima

Congratulations. My 1st dd was born in 83 and is at this moment in hospital having her 2nd child. No idea whether girl or boy - 2nd IVF baby, miracles of science and love. She has been in for almost 36hrs now having gone in to be induced yesterday. I have had the pleasure of dgs for 2 days and nights now and wonder how I ever managed with two! I will have to remember before she goes back to work. Although if Im honest I can't wait, I'm so excited.

let us know how it goes, you must be on tenterhooks x

What lovely news dogsmother. It really is the best thing in the world to be a grandmother. I never thought about this stage of life until it happened, and it’s truly wonderful. You and your family have such a lot to look forward to.

dogsmother Thu 06-Oct-22 18:07:30

Congratulations, being a granny is the best thing ever.

ginny Thu 06-Oct-22 17:37:47

Lovely news.

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Oct-22 15:39:27

Whilst it’s true that a lot of women do have babies in their late thirties and early forties, sadly a lot more find they’ve left it too late.
Female fertility drops sharply after our mid thirties, so it is somewhat of a gamble to leave it that late.
Of course many circumstances come into play, not least finding the right man to have children with !

Congratulations Dogsmother. You must be over the moon. What wonderful news.
Our son was was born in 1981 and we have our only granddaughter who is 5. I think as Maw said lots of women and men wait later now to have children.
It will be such an exciting time for you and your family.

Grannybags Thu 06-Oct-22 15:14:09

Congratulations!

I can remember how excited I was when I was first told I was to be a grandparent - she’s almost 11 now.

As you can see from my user name Granny is best!

MawtheMerrier Thu 06-Oct-22 15:06:10

Congratulations Dogsmother - lovely news!
Although why you should have given up hope when your DS was born in 1982 I cannot imagine.
My youngest D was born in 1981 and had her second boy a year ago shortly before her 40th birthday. So for your son to be a first time Dad at presumably 40 (Jan 2023) well he’s a mere youngster!
I don’t think it is unusual as lots of young women and men are having their babies later these days -eldest D had hers at 36, 37 and 39, middle D had her little boy at 39 and youngest had her boys at 38 and (nearly) 40.

Witzend Thu 06-Oct-22 13:09:07

What lovely news! Congratulations!
My dd1 was 38 before Gdd1 arrived - I was 67 - but she’s had two more since then - all so well worth waiting for!

sodapop Thu 06-Oct-22 13:03:41

Congratulations to you and the family dogsmother lots of love and good times ahead for all of you.

fairfraise Thu 06-Oct-22 13:00:58

That's great news. It's so exciting when you first hear of a baby on the way!

Ro60 Thu 06-Oct-22 12:51:41

Congratulations ? ?
Granny is great - it's used a lot in our family.
Then of course the Queen was called Granny so I guess you can't go far wrong there.

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Oct-22 12:27:04

That’s great that they live near you isn’t it! Sorry you didn’t say so I don’t know why I assumed it was your daughter!

I bet the soon-to-be parents are over the moon, tempered with a bit of apprehension no doubt.
When is the baby due?

dogsmother Thu 06-Oct-22 12:05:22

Thanks everyone, wasn’t clear but eldest is Son… they do live nearby so I can get hands on. Hopefully that won’t change. I suppose as older first time parents there will be things to be considered. But I can’t wait to see what transpires.
