Gender Reveal Parties What the Hell???

They’re rather an old-fashioned couple, FarNorth and I think they’d be shocked at that idea! I must admit, when I met them after the baby was born and he was swathed in blue, I thought it was my memory failing me because I was sure they’d said they were expecting a girl. I was quite glad I hadn’t misremembered!

I guess if some find happiness and joy in commenting negatively about what makes others happy...

Someone please enlighten me - what is a Penis Party? Do strap-on dildos count, or is it bona fide willies only? And are they Out and Proud, or is the dress code strictly Budgie Smugglers?

My AC and spouses chose not to know in advance and it was just lovely to receive that phone call after all 4 births with the happy news. The midwife who delivered one of my granddaughters was really excited during the labour. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d delivered a baby and the parents didn’t know in advance.

One of my daughter’s friends decided to have a 3D scan and send copies to both sets of grandparents who delighted in seeing their grandson wriggling around. Then 2 months later the baby was born and it was a girl !

Call me an old cynic but I don’t think these lavish reveal parties would exist if there was no social media. It’s yet another instagram event.

When she arrived, she was most definitely a he! ?‍?‍? ?‍?‍?They had a shed-load of pink clothing and equipment, none of which could be returned as it had all been removed from packaging and washed.

And all of that would be perfectly serviceable for a boy.

I remember buying vests for my 3 month old boy. The assistant was apologetic that they only had girls' vests. The difference? Slightly fancy straps instead of plain straight ones.
My baby never noticed - imagine!

I think we need to let people have their happiness.

Apparently the stag and hen do's aren't such a thing in the States. I was watching some videos comparing the US to the UK and this was something that came up. The Americans were quite surprised when someone came up to them, dressed in a gaudy costume and selling some trinket or a small bottle of something. Come to think of it, this may have happened in Germany but it could have been a British hen party.

Baby showers and gender-reveal parties (or whatever they're called), etc, are hot in the USA for obvious reasons IMO. Rampant capitalism dictates that anything and everything that can be commoditised will be, basically! Everything's a business / commercial opportunity.

I believe we're fast going down the same route. If Tufton Street has anything to do with it.

I can't understand why apart from medical reasons why parents want to know sex of baby then telling everyone .I was excited to know and thinking I would soon know helped me cope with Labour .neither of my A.c. found out either.

I thought most people were frantically worried about the cost of living without adding another plastic tat party to their repertoire.
Also I’m rather superstitious regarding pregnancy as in Ye Olden Days and only truly celebrate when a birth has gone well and both mother and baby are fine, so no baby showers, Penis Party etc. for me.

Even tho' you've not given birth you are still part of that unique demographic who've been round the block a few times and know a thing or two - especially about the younger generation

Bluebelle Halloween isn't American it started in Scotland and Ireland before America existed and was taken there by us,Of course we didn't do the trick or treat thing ,we all just sang a wee song or recited a poem or danced for out loot ,peanuts an apple and a sweetie usually ,if you were lucky a threepenny bit nowadays a pound .It seems only England didn't celebrate

We did (in England), paddyann, I remember apple bobbing etc, cutting out paper shapes of pumpkins etc but we didn't go round the houses with a bucket doing trick or treat.

Simple fun, not commercialised in the olden days when I was young ?

This sex-reveal party sounds like more commercialism.
I do remember asking what sex our last baby was when I went for a scan because I wanted to go shopping in the sales, but they wouldn't tell me in case they got it wrong.

The 'surprise' thing will happen just the same if parents find out before the birth though. I've never really understood that line of thought. For me it's not the finding out that seems odd - it's the hullabaloo surrounding it.

Element of surprise when born ... also mistakes can be made ... seems like any excuse to have parties & pressies ... to me a waste of money ... my friend was invited to different sorts of parties for just one baby ... also she heard someone say have loads of clothes, so decided to buy the baby something completely different, never been to one of these parties although went to a Sikh one just after the baby was born so instead of clothes bought a lovely cuddly toy & a book for when a little older
