There is another website called ‘warm welcome’. This has different listings and includes our local libraries (Kent).

I like the idea so looked mine up, just in case of power cuts or other unforeseen disasters. It's a church hall, four miles away - and only open on a Tuesday! Still, I'd keep warm just getting there, and maybe they'd have no power too. My kids live more out in the sticks, where they seem to be based in libraries, so no food or drinks allowed.

I think it needs a radical update as I know my small library 5 minutes walk away is offering hot drinks etc 2 days a week and none of the libraries in my district are listed or the churches who are offering help. I do think it is an excellent idea.

warmspace.org were mentioned on TV recently.

My village had warm spaces on six afternoons a week offering free tea and coffee and in some cases, food.

On Monday it's in the pub, Tuesday the parish church, Wednesday the Methodist church, Thursday the village hall, Friday the football club and Saturday the library (and other library opening days). None are pinned to the map.

I mailed the people at warmspace.org to tell them about these asking if they could pin them. They have replied to say they have to have consent from the organisers via the form on their website so if you do know of any that aren't yet pinned please do ask the organisers to do that.

I guess it's a case of searching local information in good old fashioned ways like posters and local radio stations. Sometimes the Internet is too wide to know what is happening on the ground so to speak. But the map idea is a good start.

I wonder why?

Useful info, but they've missed off all the libraries in my region that are offering donated winter coats to keep warm and hot drink facilities, plus theatres that are offering a warm space too.

I can't get the ruddy map to move to show my area. grin
Hopefully the idea will gather momentum and others may join in.

The nearest one to us is about 40 miles away!

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 20:53:27

Some of the places are offering all kinds of extra, helpful things, too.

A link so that people can find places that are offering warm spaces this winter.
