On AutumnWatch they had a magnifying camera (or whatever it’s called) so we could see the tiny wee beastie munching away. Probably on iplayer, if anyone’s interested.

It’s called Stigmella a couple of different species apparently.

Apologies to those who already knew - I certainly didn’t.

If you find a leaf like this, it’s caused by a tiny caterpillar burrowing inside the leaf. It produces some hormone to stop part of the leaf from going brown.
The little dark wiggly line is its poo! (I know my Gdcs will love that bit!)
I found this beech leaf very quickly in the garden.
The parent is some tiny moth, can’t recall the name, though.,
