Remembering on from earlier thread when I swooned over Nigel Slater, I came out of Hamleys toy shop, very crowded, waiting to get in was Vanessa Feltz, I was mesmerised, as love celeb spotting in London, when she spoke to me, you’re staring she said! I said yes I am, sorry, gave me a huge smile and carried on!
Have you met up with properly famous or celebs when out or about?

Dick Emery spoke to me in the audience when he was opening a fete in a nearby village. Have a photo of him holding the mic out to me.

Jasper Carratt came into my bank one day, I didn’t serve him, my colleague rushed to get rid of her customer and got in first.

Princess Alexandra waved to me passing in her car.

I know, I move in exalted circles.

Back in the day DH worked in London theatres with the greatest - Deborah Kerr, Maggie Smith, Vanessa Redgrave, Ian Carmichael, Ben Kingsley, Dave Allen, Rex Harrison, Christopher Reeve etc and I used to go along to opening night and after show parties. DH used to play cards with some of them back stage. Dave Allen gave us a lovely wedding gift.
Chefs Michel Roux, Angela Hartnett, Michael Caine and Monica Galetti - the latter showed us round her kitchen and her French husband Davide told us all about his amazing wine selection.
Through our children's schools - Jennifer Saunders and Ade, Pierce Brosnan, Nigel Mansell and more.
Martin Clunes had a chat about our dog in Port Isaac last year.
I am interested in celebrities as people, especially if that's the world you move in, but I am neither obsessed nor in awe of them.
One or two not on that list were rude and too full of themselves.

When DH and I were “courting”, we used to go to a pub in Mill Hill (it was my local) which was frequented by Roger Moore (it was his local too, and Patrick McGoohan’s) in his days as The Saint, before his career really took off. He was often sitting in a corner by the bar with a pint, reading his newspaper. No one stared or bothered him.

Knopfler, of course!

Kate1949 Tue 01-Nov-22 15:33:32

The very lovely Richard O'Sullivan came into the bar of a theatre where me and my sister had just watched him in a play. He was a complete delight.

I have seen Judi Dench sat outside a cafe in a high street near me, she has a house nearby. I didn’t go up to her I thought she deserved to drink he coffee in peace, she was with a friend.

Rowan Williams confirmed my daughter and I at my local church at the time, not many people get confirmed by an archbishop, it’s my claim to fame! He is a lovely man to speak to, which we did at the refreshments afterwards.

King Charles is 5' 10" according to Alexa.

I doubt that!

Grannybags Tue 01-Nov-22 15:03:30

I never recognise anyone either. I certainly wouldn't rush up for a chat and a selfie if I did!

I’ve met a few of the Strictly pro dancers Kevin,Giovanni,Luba, Ashley Roberts when she was an item with Gio also Mel Giedroyc when she was the announcer on the Strictly tour. She was lovely and easy to chat to. Met Gethin Jones when he was a compère at the opening of a local hotel.

Met the boys from Westlife when DH had to interview them for work. I wasn’t a fan but after meeting them and being invited to see the show I was. Lovely down to earth hard working young men.

Grandma70s Tue 01-Nov-22 14:58:42

Oh, and Harold Wilson a long time ago. My father knew him.

Grandma70s Tue 01-Nov-22 14:57:18

Nobody recently, but in the past Bob Monkhouse, Paul McCartney, Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev. Paul M was the most full of himself, Margot Fonteyn was the nicest, Nureyev was the best looking.

Same as you M0nica. I am the biggest put down for celebrities as I don’t recognise them either.

Quite an assortment! First, Lord Nicholas Windsor was staying in rooms at the Oxford College where I worked; Brian May from Queen was playing a concert at the church next to where I worked and came to ask me where the Green Room was; my sister held Susan Hampshire’s bag at a hospital fete where my mum worked as a nurse; I saw Jeremy Vine at a Migraine Society meeting in London - he is very tall; Rowan Williams came to my work a couple of times. He preached at Candlemass and then we all had tea and cakes. He had the most incredible beard. I saw Tony Blackburn at the radio 1 road show in Reading when I was 16. Finally, I met Prince Charles at work. We were all presented. There’s a photo somewhere. He is quite short. But not as short as Mr Sunak.

I've been driven round a rally circuit by the original Stig from Top Gear. Daughter met Rihanna when she was in America - she was about to go into a shop in the airport when Rihanna was coming out. Said she was lovely and more than happy to pose for a photo with daughter and her friends.

Kate1949 Tue 01-Nov-22 14:29:21

My all time idol George Harrison came to chat to me and a small group of fans through his dressing room window at Birmingham Town hall before a Beatles concert once. I floated home.
I've seen a few out and about. Timothy West and Pru in the coffee shop at Stratford theatre. A few others. None compared to George.

M0nica Tue 01-Nov-22 14:15:47

I have no idea whether I have met any celebrities because I just do not recognise people outside their usual environment and if I met the King at my Tai Chi class, I would not recognise him

ShazzaKanazza Tue 01-Nov-22 14:15:36

We stayed in a hotel in Maida Vale and it was at the time of the hugely popular Pop Idol and they were all staying in the hotel. We had breakfast with them all and had pics with them. It was the year Michelle McManus won. I was impressed at the time. Wouldn’t be fussed now.

Heading for the States one year we were lucky enough to get an upgrade to First Class and Roger Moore was directly in front of us at check-in. He was accompanied by his wife and was immaculately dressed - pale blue suit and pink tie. He acknowledged us as he was checking through his luggage and was so pleasant to the staff. If I hadn't seen him first I would have recognised his voice without turning my head.

MrsKen33 Tue 01-Nov-22 14:01:43

Melvin Bragg gave me my degree certificate.

When I was a child I encountered Billy Cotton in a tea room in Burford.
Also, as a teenager, my friend and I met The Shadows and Frank Ifield in Oxford and were invited to the cinema (wives were present).

Heading off on holiday with friends we went into London’s Chinatown the day before flying out of Gatwick airport. There we spotted Rula Lenska and to the poor lady’s misfortune I was not backwards at asking if two of us could have a selfie with her. She was an absolute lady, very gracious and we both have a lovely keepsake to go with other holiday memories.

BlueBelle Tue 01-Nov-22 13:51:23

Nah don’t see many round here
I did see Vanessa feltz from a distance a long time back with her partner at Womad music festival
That’s about it

Aveline Tue 01-Nov-22 13:47:00

I once sat next to Howard from 'Last of the Summer Wine' on a plane! I refrained from asking after Marina.
Not exactly a major celeb though.
