It should only be in history books nowadays for the Guy Fawkes story.And kept to organised displays only.

Yes we had some outside in daylight yesterday! Whats point of that- you cant even see the colours?

Would happily have fireworks sold to the public banned. Is it not about time we stopped celebrating 05th November? Based on religious conflict and an attempt to murder, would we celebrate such a thing if occurring nowadays. Sure some will be able to refer to modern day such based incidents.

No offense Shazzaka(can only view first part of name) but seriously your brother got 1 in the eye as a child yet you still watch them?AND you crashed cause of them yet you still approve of them? Inside away from them or outside with them fireworks are still a menace.Keep them only for organised displays i say.

All sales of fireworks should be banned to individuals. You should have to apply for licence. And those fireworks which are designed to make maximum noise, rather than colour/style effet, should be banned totally. When it used to be 1 or 2 nights around beg. of November, it was not too bad. but now it goes on for days, weeks, months even. Just awful, for people, pets, wildlife and birds.

I totally agree with this, my dog is terrified and literally tries to climb the walls as well as furniture, no one can relax. The noise is intolerable, sounds like bombs and gunfire and made with that in mind, I just don’t understand why people want that. For the past few years I’ve had to take my dog out of the city for a week or so to avoid the worst of the problem. We are currently in a cottage on a working farm in Derbyshire for some peace. As Fleurpepper says it affects people and wildlife as well as family pets, not to mention the environment with air and ground pollution.

Tha last 2 days have been horrific for my poor dogs .... it sounded like a war zone outside. Actually called the vet for some advice (tried the calming sprays etc) but they wanted £100 for the medication which I just don't have ..... (although one of them was one we had at home, which they had and it did help one dog, a bit; and one I have just been prescribed but not got yet!! Grrrr ....) will be saving some for NY if I don't get on with it!) But the worst thing was someone was setting them off at lunchtime yesterday - daylight?? So we weren't at all prepared for that stupidity .... I like them, good ones, set to music at a good display, but think now they shouldn't be available for the public to buy as not everyone is sensible.

How fortunate everyone is whose pets are not in the slightest bit bothered by Fireworks.

Our 9 year old Bichon has to be heavily medicated with a drug called Sileo, prescribed by the Vet - cost £77, a price I am more than prepared to pay to ease her suffering but its heartbreaking watching her.

I hate fireworks so much. They frighten dogs and cats . They frighten wild animals and birds. So much so that they abandon their young .
I really think in this day and age that they should be banned. Silent ones can be bought which are a bit better. And such a waste of money too! Grrrrrrt

That is ridiculous still setting them off at this time. We had virtually constant loud banging ones, started about 17.30, finished by 21.30.

Fire works still going off full swing here people obviously have money to burn.

Who remembers this? And other similar public health films, e.g. dangers of electricity, railway lines, fire, etc.?

That happened to me too but at a local display. Happily staring up at the lovely display and bam! it hit me right in the middle of my forehead. I was totally stunned and had no idea for a minute what had happened - man standing beside me looked a bit shocked too. Had a thumping headache for the rest of the evening.

That sounds terrifying because it could go in your eye and blind you. Makes me dislike them even more. Hope my GC will be okay tonight. 😟

I love fireworks too. Having a birthday the day before Bonfire night, they always played a large part in my birthday celebrations as a child. We went to an event at our botanical gardens last night and the evening was rounded off with a truly spectacular professional firework display. Earlier in the evening, they had low noise fireworks for young children (but there were plenty of young children at the later display too). Tonight I will just watch whatever is going on around our neighbourhood from the comfort of my living room!

yobbos even set off fireworks in the street. hoping I don't jinx myself but it's been a few years since that's been done in my immediate area. It is illegal to set them off in public places anyway, but of course impossible to police in most cases. When I was a child and we lived in a flat, my dad would take us to a large open common where lots of families would be having their fireworks, great fun to see everybody else letting theirs off. Now of course that option wouldn't be available.

In previous years fireworks lasted for weeks, this year I feel that the cost of living has really had an impact. There have been significantly fewer so far so fingers crossed that tonight will be the last night!

I don’t like them, I was burned by one as a small child. It was at an organised display and I was sat quietly watching when a burning ball of phosphorus or whatever it is they use landed on me.

We used to have a fireworks display in our village. Huge bonfire, baked potatoes. Along with the carnival and the village panto it was the highlight of the year. There was something wonderfully amateurish about it. But nothing like that happens any more.

Also they should be fined or cautioned if they let them off on any day other than the 5th November, unless it falls on a Sunday.
Maybe in the 1950s but there are countless other celebrations in the 21st century. And how would you ever find the person responsible for setting them off? I can't see the Police attending for some fireworks which have ended long before they arrive. No proof anyway.

I think a lot depends on where you live. Some areas are fine, maybe more rural and spaced out, towns and cities are more built up and yobbos even set off fireworks in the street.

I’d say just make the noisy ones illegal. Take them off sale.
Only silent ones are allowed in some parts of Italy.

I do agree.
There were fireworks last night but nothing too noisy, mostly just very pretty rockets and fountain types, whooshing and crackles and only the very occasional bang. The children two doors down had louder squeals than some of them

I do sympathise with those whose pets suffer. A relative who lives about a mile away suffers noisy fireworks for weeks, which causes her dog to get distressed. There needs to be strict legislation limiting the days and times when they can be set off, along with limits on size and noise levels. Even organised displays should have noise level limits for the sake of residents nearby.

We had so much fun as a child so I wouldn’t want to ban them from the general public to have in their gardens.
But I think that the public should to be restricted to the small types of Fireworks and not be allowed to buy the large ones.

All the people letting off Fireworks for days before and afterwards is to me, an absolute pain and so scary for animals in the fields.

I'm a firm believer in organised displays only. Fireworks should never be sold to the public because of the distress caused to animals and the potential for accidents and vandalism. Most of us are probably responsible but many are not.

However, if they could stop or reduce the noise then that would make a difference. There are some fireworks which bang very loudly at intervals and idiots seem to enjoy setting these off at random times for no particular reason. What good are they? They should be banned altogether.

I quite agree with the noise levels and that is why we only have pretty stuff that crackles a bit and whooshes. Nothing else -so it hardly impacts at noise level.

You can buy mixed boxes - very low noise level.

I love traditional stuff, and the way it marks the progress of the year. From 12th night, then plough Monday -( we always plan our veg garden and order our veg seeds on that day) right through to Christmas.
