Oh, I will have a look for that, Blossoming.

The thing is, as in the original story the emperor has new clothes and his penis is showing. Some people protest that they can’t see it, but if they’re being honest they can,

JaneJudge Sun 13-Nov-22 18:00:16

Are you saying this because he couldn't even be bothered to have fake tits?

Parsley3 Sun 13-Nov-22 17:58:53

I am confused. Is Brian living as a woman or did he become one for the competition and the chance of winning the scholarship?

volver Sun 13-Nov-22 17:41:26

So, I'm flouncing on....

I know there is no room for a neutral voice in this. I've tried that before and got my "just desserts". But some of the comments on here are just malevolent. Whether they are directed at a man, woman or hedgehog, the things that are said are just despicable.

Flouncing off now, so you can all continue to tell me I'm supportive of male privilege and hate women....or something.

Biscuitmuncher Sun 13-Nov-22 17:32:41

Granny gravy 13 but tge thing is ladyboys don't think they're women

Rosie51 Sun 13-Nov-22 00:55:07

Oh definitely Emperor's new clothes. I defy anyone to honestly say they think Brian would have won the competition 10 years ago. Based on conventional ideas of feminine beauty Brian wouldn't have come close, but the TRAs will say they think he's stunning and brave, and now the 'fairest of them all'. I hope they can provide links to overweight, less than perfect females who have also won beauty pageants, but I'll not hold my breath!

Ziplok-Emperor’s new clothes praisers are alive and . . . Well?

Ziplok Sat 12-Nov-22 22:41:16

Is not

Ziplok Sat 12-Nov-22 22:41:01

Violetsky, that individual not a female, is not a “her” at all.

NanKate

In addition it reminds me of the Hans Christian Anderson story ‘The Emperor’s new clothes’ with everyone going along with the myth of him wearing new clothes when it was patently obvious he was in the nude.

The masses had been duped and now it is happening in reality. You couldn’t make it up.

Oh you could make it up! They have!
And the people who persisted in saying they believed the lie about the emperor’s new clothes are still around today.

Why don’t trans people have their own beauty pageant?

The women in the pageant must feel duped by having someone obviously male as the winner.

I find the whole event truly awful, what a travesty.

How on earth is it transphobic to say that beauty contests for women should only have women contestants

To realise how silly it is, just look at the word beauty-does not remotely apply to that man.

To realise how silly and definitely not transphobic it is, substitute the word females for women. How can a male win a female competition without cheating?

But females are up against the corruption of the word ‘women’ and the support of males by some females.

maddyone Sat 12-Nov-22 18:37:15

How on earth is it transphobic to say that beauty contests for women should only have women contestants? Men have Mr Strongman or Mr World or whatever. A baby can’t enter a women’s beauty contest, neither can a child, nor a dog, cat or goat! I’m sorry, it’s blindingly obvious that that person is male and he shouldn’t have been allowed in the contest. I’m sorry, I’m not woke, I’m a bit like JK Rowling, I believe in stating the obvious. People with a penis are not female, never can be female, and should not enter women’s beauty contests, or races, or any other activity designated exclusively for people who do not have a penis!

Incidentally I have no objection to people preferring to dress as the opposite sex and live as the opposite sex. But they have to accept the limitations that that behaviour imposes. It’s a choice, not an actual change of sex.

MerylStreep

To be fair you can see why she won the contest.

Brilliant 😁

No need to duck WIWYA. I heard on the radio earlier today about how the voting in the US could be influenced by minority groups concerned about whether the recent abortion legislation presages similar rollbacks of rights on contraception etc. The 'minority groups' turned out to be women and first time voters 🙄. I ranted to Mr Dog all the way home (we were in the car, so he had no escape).

Wheniwasyourage Sat 12-Nov-22 18:14:25

I find it a bit alarming that something I have read in the Guardian (which I normally like) said that Qatar causes ethical concerns because of its treatment of LBGTQ+ people, women and migrant workers. In that order. Women are more than half of the world's population. Should they not be first in that list? [Ducks behind sofa before being attacked as transphobic]

Mollygo Sat 12-Nov-22 18:07:58

Bridie22

Yes some people are taking the piss about HIS looks, He cost a young lady a scholarship.
And appallingly, some females support him in doing that.

Chestnut Sat 12-Nov-22 18:07:03

Ah but when the winner was announced, that's when they should have all flounced out, screaming in protest, leaving the winner standing alone on the stage.

If they'd refused to take part no doubt they'd have been accused of being transphobic.

Absolutely.

Doodledog Sat 12-Nov-22 17:58:10

It was a clever move to hitch the misogynist cause to the wagon of 'the most marginalised group in the country', so anyone stating the obvious can be accused of being 'unwoke' and of not caring about minorities (cf comparisons with racists and homophobics of yore).

As I said upthread, this is the perfect example of what feminists have been saying for years now - it's not 'just' about wanting to pee in private. It's not about thinking that all men are rapists. It is about having no female categories whether in sport, in maternity wards, on shortlists, in research findings and now in contests to find 'the ideal woman'. That was another smart move, as any objections can be easily diverted into 'they are outdated anyway. Why are you supporting sexist outdated institutions like this?'

Chestnut Sat 12-Nov-22 17:30:05

There are a lot of transgender issues like that going on that we don't know about. It is becoming a big problem and people need to fight back. Those contestants were obviously too scared to flounce out screaming in protest which is what they should have done.

Smileless2012 Sat 12-Nov-22 17:21:01

You're right Rosie. I was honestly expecting someone far more attractive TBH, not that would make it any better. I dread to think what could be next.
