Just a light hearted thread opposite to Maw's -
My decorations go up on 1st December, love Christmas and bought my first present last June.
I love reality tv, can't wait for Big Brother to return.
Don't watch the news - the world is too depressing.
Going to see Florence and the Machine next week, can't wait.
Love browsing supermarkets and seeing what's new.
Can't be bothered with cook books or recipe's, they take too long.
Live in trackies and t shirts - nowt posh.
Everyone to their own I say and good on you.

I’m with you regarding Christmas decorations and Celebrity Big Brother Elless smile
(The series with Pete Burns is at the top of my television greats)

Each to his own provided it is not shoved in my face.

But we’re all different, aren’t we - different personalities, different life experiences, different family circumstances - and different finances. There is no right or wrong / in step or out of step in my opinion. We can only accept each others’ choices and be thankful for all the freedoms we have.

Um, no. I’m seriously out of step (again) grin

I don’t think that I have ever been in step tbh Blossoming
Swimming (or floundering) against the tide, more like!

I've certainly been out of step no heel leads for me all my life.
Christmas to me has to be endured with the minimum of fuss. After being an Infant teacher and up to the eyes in glue and glitter for years Christmas is low-key.
I can appreciate that others feel differently and did keep it up at home for the DDs. I vowed to stop when DH said it was like Bl...Santas Grotto. That's it I'm a minimalist from now on.

I agree. Putting your decorations up in mid December, or liking certain makes of clothes does not make you anymore out of step than putting your decorations up early or liking a different brand of clothing makes you particularly in step.

I would try desperately to be out of step if someone told me I was ‘in step’.

I don't do any sort of Christmas decorating but revel happily in the over the top goings on in shops and the beauty and warmth I will experience at my family's house for 25/26 period. Then I will come back home and quietly appreciate the lack of work and effort involved that I remember all too clearly from my past. Happy days but much too hectic for me nowadays.

This year I'm going to put my decorations and tree up earlier than usual in an effort to cheer the place up. 1st Dec. probably.
And I'm going to eat some chocolate.
And I'm seriously thinking of getting a cat for company.
Are there any kind of cats which don't kill birds?
I don't know if this is any kind of being in step or not. I'm fed up with feeling out of step.

Greenfinch Sat 19-Nov-22 10:49:01

You could get an elderly indoor cat from a rescue centre.

henetha Sat 19-Nov-22 10:52:22

Yes, that is a good idea. Maybe middle aged cats don't catch as many birds. Thanks *Greenfinch" - love your user name!. smile

Why? If you're happy with your choices and way of doing things why change them just so you can tell yourself you're out of step?

VJ If they said I was in step, they would be wrong, so I’d have to show them . I am quite happy as I am Thank You , but would hate to be misrepresented

But if someone said your tastes and preferences were in step, why would you change them just to be perceived as out of step?

Theexwife Sun 20-Nov-22 21:58:02

I don't really care what other people think about me as you never actually know what others think.
