It's not good at all. For anyone. All violence is awful and there should be no excuses, whoever the victim.

The trouble with figures like the ones in the link is that the numbers of transpeople are so small. Despite the noise made by the trans lobby, the estimate is that there are between 200 and 500 thousand transpeople in the UK. With a population of 67million (?) that is a tiny number. Numerous cross tabulations would have to be carried out to find any meaningful comparators with the general population. The figures could represent people with red hair, or the recently divorced, or people with barking dogs, and all of those things and more would have to be considered before a causal link could be found between their trans status and their death. Not that that makes even one murder acceptable, it goes without saying. It's just that statistics like this are so easily used to 'prove' things that are not true.

But – again based on unofficial figures – it appears that trans people are more likely to experience other violent crimes, for example domestic abuse.

... that's in line with the stats that indicate women are more likely to be murdered or suffer violent attacks by their partner or a family member.

If you include children who, according to the National Association of Adult Survivors, are more at risk from being abused by a family member... then it would seem that both adults, whether trans or not, and children are at greater risk in their home environment than they are from the world outside. The one place where everyone should feel safe. Not good is it?

No, I don't care about someone lighting a candle. It's a nice (if pointless) gesture, if done without fanfare. When the virtue of the lighter is signalled on the internet, however, it loses its potency, such as it was.

There are many planned, I'm not sure how many but hopefully enough that anyone who wants to attend can

I really don't want to facilitate another diversion into a discussion of yet more false equivalences, but no, IMO (although opinions vary) poppies are not a futile gesture, as they represent a donation to the British Legion, and the sight of others wearing them reminds people to do likewise if they wish. I have no idea (and nor do I care) whether those who make their own also contribute.

Posting online that you are going to light a candle, however, benefits nobody except the poster.

I've never known anyone tell others they were going to buy a poppy - have you? Most people just quietly go about doing what makes them feel good. Poppies also raise money for war veterans - they are not futile at all.

Funny isn't it there is usually a thread about wearing poppies. I wonder is everyone who wears one virtue signalling and making a rather futile gesture?
Or simply remembering and recognising a group of people they care about. Just as lighting a candle for trans people is.
