And we should take the POV that unacceptable or threatening behaviour is not OK from ANY PERSON OR GROUP.

And I am proud to be a women and glad to accept sisters who decide, after all the dilemmas and issues they face, to join us. And, btw, make a plea for adequate resources for the young who face ???? for themselves, as I suspect that at least of the anger originates from difficulties getting support.

Which toilets do you think a trans woman should use?

A difficult question - I was about to say trans women shouldn’t be allowed into womens’ safe spaces until they had had gender reassignment surgery. But how would you know ? The minority of trans activists have created an absolute minefield haven’t they ?

Yes Jane there are issues with women only spaces and that is something which concerns me greatly.

And yes Sandybeth it is appalling that there have been death threats aimed at women for saying that trans women are not real women.

That said, the physical and psychological journey of transitioning, together with the courage that is needed should never be underestimated and as with any hate crime, those who are abused and/or murdered because of the choices they have made deserve to be remembered.

Their numbers may be not be great but just one is one too many.

Yes I know there are issues with women only spaces, but it's a shame that this thread couldn't just stay focused on those trans people who have been struggling with themselves, family, and friends.

Some people cant resist laying in - there have been so very many many anti trans threads based on the behaviour of a tiny minority - for heavens sake (and I mean that) allow space for celebration and positivity for once!

Sandybeth Fri 18-Nov-22 17:35:01

I for one will be thinking of all the women who are getting death threats for saying that trans women are not real women. I accept that some people want to dress up and behave like the opposite sex and if that brings them happiness then that is great, but please don’t ever tell me that men can have periods. I am a gynae nurse so I know that it is not true.

That's a thoughtful post, Dickens.

With ANY minority group, to whom we might wish to offer support, there will be those who undermine the many.

Historically, we have often had a day or a week to support a particular group in order to move forward accepting that the previous historical norm of "us" being white, male, heterosexual and anyone else "other" to them being "lesser" or transgressive to that norm.

So this is trans week.

I have known and know only two TW - neither remotely fit this picture. But of course this is pure anecdote, but it does make me wonder if TW are being given a hard time because they are being mis-represented by the aggressive and nasty minority of so-called 'activists'?

I have been pointing this out for so long I could repeat the message in my sleep.

Unfortunately for the existing and future innocent trans, the impact of the actions of some trans and TRA will take a long time to eradicate-and if they carry on doing it, that may never happen.

paddyanne54 thanks for your post. I've decided to ignore all the rants and applaud the posts which recognise the difficulties trans people face and support them.
One positive supportive trans thread on GN would be lovely sunshine

I recognise as many do, the difficulties people encounter when they decide to go down that route.
What people dislike is the eroding of womens spaces and the
often sickening burbling of the uber trans lobby.

What people dislike is the eroding of womens spaces and the often sickening burbling of the uber trans lobby.

I would like to know just how many the "uber trans lobby" are in number as opposed to the (I'm guessing) millions of trans women who we never hear about, who are just living their best lives and are simply doing 'what comes naturally'.

So many times demographics are identified by the most vocal, most volatile among them - or, where the media is concerned, the most pernicious. Like, for example, benefit claimants - the media (the right wing element) would have you believe that they are all work-shy idlers, when in fact most claimants are either in work, sick, disabled or physically unable to work. Young people (same type of media) are portrayed as 'woke snowflakes' who can't cope with the reality of life - because the media always manages to find those individuals to interview or write articles about.

What I'm wondering is if those trans women who wear t shirts with slogans like "I punch TERFS" etc are in fact a vocal minority whom the media love to use as examples when they are having one of their many attacks on 'woke lefties' etc?

I have known and know only two TW - neither remotely fit this picture. But of course this is pure anecdote, but it does make me wonder if TW are being given a hard time because they are being mis-represented by the aggressive and nasty minority of so-called 'activists'? As so often is the case. I remember when homosexuals were all regarded as child-molesters (a 'message' cleverly insinuated by certain media)... how wrong that turned out to be.

Mollygo Fri 18-Nov-22 14:51:43

trisher, It needs one admission, just one admission by each transfan on GN that the responsibility for the trouble that trans are facing has its roots in the actions of those TW, TRA and supporters, who attack females for speaking the biological truth and insist on claiming female rights on the strength that they “feel like a woman”
Just one admission of the truth of that would be amazing, a bit like a miracle.”

Here, the rest of us, feminist or not, are happy to support trans who want to live their lives without being tarnished by those in the ^group above^ .

Feminists understand that making decisions to change their lives is difficult for trans.

Feminists don’t make judgements on whether males look butch, or whether they dress in skirts, trousers, dresses or whatever.

Feminists don’t mind if males “feel like women” and are happy to respect their choice of clothing.

Feminists do ask that males respect the rights of females and don’t claim they are entitled to the same rights.

If TW really were female they would understand why that is so important to real, female women.
Their refusal to understand and respect female rights shows how far away from being real women some TW are.

For goodness sake move with the times and let people live the lives they want.

Now just let me check.
Please clarify your above statement.

Does your ‘people’ mean that females should be allowed to live the lives they want?

lives free from being deprived of prizes by cheating males,

lives free from the possibility of finding males, well intentioned or not, in changing rooms, toilets, female safe spaces and female refuges,

lives free from imprisonment for wrongdoing being turned into a double punishment by allowing males, even rapists, to say they’re female.

Or does your people just mean that all trans, whether innocent or guilty of the above offences should be allowed to live the lives they want?

Oreo Fri 18-Nov-22 13:50:35

No paddyann54 this nonsense has been ramped up by a trans minority who lobby for evermore ‘rights’ for themselves.
They give the other transpeople a bad name.
For the record, just because you haven’t seen a man dressed as a woman in ladies loos doesn’t mean they don’t do it.
I’ve seen it three times, twice in a cinema and once in a store.

That's the problem. The people demanding that anyone who identifies as a woman should be allowed access to women's toilets, changing rooms and prison accommodation and those who bow to these demands are creating an extremely difficult landscape for transgenders who just want to live in peace without trampling over anyone else's rights.

For such a minority group its amazing the amount of publicity they get.By drawing attention to people we probably have never come across surely this will lead to more prejudice rather than acceptance.

Yes, this is very true. If they just quietly got on with their lives instead of constantly drawing attention to their 'condition', they would be doing themselves a huge favour. After all, one's sexuality is only part of who we are.
I'm not 'gay' or transgender but if I were, I would distance myself from the public antics of those who denigrate the whole gender scene, by portraying it as a sordid promiscuous lifestyle.

I don't know how anyone can fail to know about transgender issues as they are highlighted constantly in the media. No need for a special week.

I just wish we could keep JUST this little thread for its intended purpose x
Thinking of my lovely earnest, loving and gentle Quaker trans friend.

Threads meander, they rarely stay as the OP wants. That's life I guess.
My niece is in a relationship with a transman. I won't deny that has been difficult for lots of the family, especially those of us that knew the partner before transition. Luckily the partner who now views their previously lesbian relationship has moved to a heterosexual relationship says 'don't worry about misgendering and shit, I know you still love us both.' But then C knows that C has not changed sex but has changed their view of themself. Out of courtesy and respect I try to remember 'he' but 'she' is still first to my lips.
