Morning from a rainy S Yorks.
The cleaner is here already and I'm still in dressing gown, that's because I was up foolishly late watching a film. I feel so grateful to have her.
I have a long awaited appointment at 5pm on bowel stuff, one of those medical puzzles needing to rule out anything nasty but there will be waits for tests anyway after seeing her.
May or may not find the energy for the gym too.
I was sad to read of difficulties with matters medical above, take best care all. Well we can hope for some relief in todays budget, but...
Enjoy outings, friends and grandchildren, all. Its so true, its lovely to have one's own DS or DD child free when we can.

Good Morning Thursday 17th November 2022
(66 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Another dark and wet start to the day here in brackley .
My blood test went OK , I chose to walk the mile or so distance to the surgery as I had time , I did it in three slots stopping to sit down where seats where , but keeping my heart working and the blood circulating gave me a quick and easy blood test , I taxied back though .
Got home after a hour the Churchill Hospital in Oxford rang me to check that I had had it done , due mis hearing on the phone .
Anyway today , I have the chiropodist as 9 ,and then go on my coach day trip to Studley Castle near Redditch for a Xmas Buffet and a festive show after .
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning from a wet and windy W Kent. Off to art group, I wonder how many others will make it in this rain. Nice long chat with DD1 last night, with 3 adult sons she has plenty to worry about!
Glad things are working out Ash keep taking the tablets.
gM I know there is a fine line between restful and boring but you sound like you do so much, take care of yourself as well.
Best wishes for the day.
The day out is for Mick
Good morning Mick and all from a wet northwest coast.
I certainly made a mess of yesterday. I drove the half hour to my favourite hairdresser, walked in the door and she looked surprised, my appointment is for today! All week I have been bringing a day forward in my mind. After seeing my DH suffer with dementia, these mishaps are a trifle worrying…
As I was out and about, I turned round and took my camera into Max Spielman to have some cards printed off from one of my paintings for Xmas and a little shopping.
So back again today for roots and trim🙄
Your tiredness is natural grandMattie after all your recent events. Hope you enjoy your day out and thinking of you Gingster
Good morning from a dry, clear S Hants, boy did it rain yesterday evening.
Pleased to see Ash has been tended to and is home again.
I’m not surprised you’re tired gMattie, you need to allow your body to reenergise.
Enjoy your day out Mick.
I really should run the vacuum round downstairs, as we’ll have the boiler man in and out on Saturday I’m wondering if it’s worth it.
Not much on today, a brisk walk is in order though.
Enjoy your day 🦩🦩.
Grandmadinosaur , thank you! I thought tomorrow was the 17th!
We are going for dinner on Friday, I think that is what confused me!
I have wrapping to do too.
Unlike much of the country this morning is golden with an almost cloudless sky, though the forecast for later suggest the rain will catch up with us. A sybaritic day awaits - coffee with one group of ladies and then lunch with some U3A friends, both welcome activities after so long without.
Glad to read that Ashcombe is home again and would second all those reminding gMattie to be kinder to herself, a message for Marydoll too. Hard to do nothing if you are not programmed that way, though I find I am getting all too good at it myself.
Good morning from an extremely wet Sefton. I have my own personal 'lake' outside my house again.
Enjoyed our afternoon at the very quiet & comfy cinema. A beautifully made film -'Living' - & a wonderful performance by Bill Nighy.... all recommended by Nannagarra . Off to Zumba in a few minutes. First time in 3 weeks as our instructor was struck down with Covid. Hoping for a lift from DH or I will get soaked.
Take care all.
Good morning all from a wet Black country.
Ash good to see your back home take care.
Mick enjoy your day it sounds delightful something to brighten up the dull day.
NanKate hope your DH isn't to bad with covid and 🤞 you don't succumb.
Housework today as its wet outside such joys.
Enjoy your Thursday everyone and may you all find some 🌞.
Here’s Matt.
Good morning everyone from a damp south Manchester. It rained hard during the night it seems but I was zonked. Picking up the Boy Wonder and L’il Miss from school today. Take them home for a sandwich (they have hot school dinners) then Himself will take the Boy Wonder to football practice and I will bath & hair wash L’il Miss so she’s done when her daddy gets home from work. Mum has parents evening where she works and won’t get home till after 8pm. Hmm. Now I’m thinking of chocolate - which is verboten for me till Easter! Temptations abound at this time of year. I need to stay focused on my goal which is easier than I thought now I’m seeing good results.
Honestly grandMattie if you think you ‘do nothing and rest a lot’ you’d think I was comatose if you peeped into my lifestyle.
#lazygran
Thanks for the book recommendations Gwen. I’ve read all those books already. They are brilliant though aren’t they? The Nightingale and Four Winds were my favourites.
Glad you eventually got home to continue with your convalescence Ash and I’m sorry to hear your girl is poorly Gingster with a hacking cough. She’s been through the mill and you must worry so. I hope she’s better soon.
Right, time for my second mug of tea. Surely I shouldn’t need to make this one myself too? You just can’t get the staff these days. I must check his T&C later and remind him of them.
Good morning Mick, enjoy your trip, and good morning everyone from rainy Carlisle.
No gardening today! I got myself out there yesterday afternoon knowing todays forecast Some bulbs went in and the summer bedding came out. I must have made a good job of improving the soil, the plants had grown enormously.
I had a fright last night, sitting quietly reading a book after dinner I received two texts purporting to be from my bank telling me of possible fraudulent activity on my account and giving me a number to ring. I assumed it was a scam and contacted the bank's fraud department by the number on my paperwork. It was the bank! After discussion and checking statements, it occurred to me it was a genuine transaction, just Amazon taking its annual payment for Prime! The first time since I'd set up that card for it. Fortunately the transaction has now gone through. Sent my heart rate up for a while.
I'm glad you are home and not as bad as suspected Ash. Those poor medical staff, I don't know how it can all be sorted. I can't be the only one who selfishly worries about getting sick.
You've had traumatic times grandMattie from which your mind and body are still recovering. It all takes a long time but I'm sure you know how to take care of yourself.
And now I must be off, Tesco's are due shortly and then I need to go into town to post parcels. Not the best day for that!
Good morning from Sefton where it is raining.
Glad to hear you’re now recovering at home Ashcombe. A restful time would benefit you Mattie. Is there a suitable Airbnb where your DL might have an extended stay? Sorry to learn about your DD Gingster. I hope she feels better soon.
Meeting friends this afternoon so chat, chuckles and cha will be had.
Whatever your plans, have the best Thursday.

Good morning all from yet another grey day in the Angus coast. I lost my post yesterday, but you didn't miss much! Glad your blood test went well Mick, and enjoy your trip today. Do try to take things easy grandmattie - nothing awful will happen if you sit down and relax for a while. Really. Sorry to hear your DH has Covid NanKate - I hope he escapes with a mild dose, and that you manage to escape it altogether. When it comes to viral infections grandchildren should come with a danger warning! Enjoying hearing about your Spanish holiday Brook. It sounds so interesting. Enjoy the Alhambra today. And so glad your antibiotics are working for you Ash, but that must have been horrid sitting and waiting for so long.
Yesterday I took my friend to a place out in the country near me - it opened in May, but I've only just heard about it. It belongs to a family of farmers who have diversified in a big way, first of all distilling vodka (countless fields of potatoes!) and gin, then a whisky distillery - ditto barley - and now the coffee shop. Everything is new and gleaming and the staff have obviously graduated with first class honours from charm school. And the 180° view from our window seat over farmland and coast - and my favourite beach - was magnificent. We not only had a lovely time, but I also bought a few liquid Christmas presents to boot (including a cuddly Hieland coo!). And all just ten minutes from my front door. I'm going there with some other friends in a couple of weeks for lunch and I am certainly looking forward to it. Yesterday's outing was primarily to find out exactly where it is as this area is a warren of little lanes and side roads and you can so easily get lost and end up miles from where you thought you were.
Today is tai chi, my favourite morning of the week not least because I never know what's going to happen! What I teach usually develops from a question or a discussion, so even when I have something pre-planned it's sometimes weeks before I get round to it. I often envy all you crafter's with your skills which you can pick up and put down whenever you like, but when I come to think of it, I do the same with tai chi and I'm forever practicing a move as I think if it - and it keeps me moving 😉. I often wonder what the fly on the wall thinks of it all, but I'll never know 😄
Have a good day everyone x
Good morning from a damp and dismal Black Country.
Should be Thursday morning walk today, but I need to be at Mums for 12noon, as her younger sister is coming over, and we are going out for lunch. She likes to arrive early, so she doesn't have to drive back in the dark.
So glad to hear you are back home Ashcombe and not as unwell as feared. I am sure you will heed the advice to rest as much as possible for a while.
Sorry to hear your DH has Covid NanKate hopefully it will be fairly mild. Fingers crossed you avoid it. Although when MrJ had it this year , I tested positive 6 days later. Luckily it was just like a bad head cold.
Please slow down grandMattie your body is telling you this. It is not easy I know when you like to be busy.
MrJ's DD is coming today to stay over the weekend. We are taking her out Friday evening for a celebratory meal after gaining her PhD a couple of weeks ago.
Wishing you all a happy Thursday
Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it's only 2°C,
Ash, I'm so glad to hear more positive news from you, but sorry to hear of your chest infection.
I was upset to read about your daughter Gingster.💐
Fingers crossed NanKate, that you stay Covid free and your DH makes a quick recovery. I've heard of a number people having Covid in the last few weeks and noticed more people wearing masks here, than over the summer. I have become a tad complacent, I need to more careful.
brook your posts have brought back so many happy memories for me, at a period in my life, where I was young, fit and healthy. My memories are so clear.
A few years later, newly married, it all went downhill from then on and I found myself in ICU, the start of many hospital stays.
Poor DH didn't realise then, he had signed up for the in sickness only part of the marriage contract. 😉
The last time we were at the Alhambra, a film crew were shooting a period drama and we were allowed close up to watch. It was the best of days!
As for the Generalife, it's my favourite part of all. So beautiful, the gentle noise of running water is so peaceful.
Wishing you all a pleasant day, I plan a gentle one. Believe that and you will believe anything. 😉
2nd attempt at posting, the original one disappeared! It's grey and very wet here in Oxfordshire. I'm working at home thankfully today.
Ash very pleased to hear you are starting to recover and can remain at home. Take care.
Gingster I'm so sorry to hear your DD is poorly, I'm still recovering from a terrible cold 8 days on and I've not been through what your DD has this year. There are some horrible viruses around, in fact I have felt worse with this cold than I did with covid.
Kittylester it's always a treat to have one of your adult children to your self, precious times, enjoy!
Good morning all from Harrogate- haven't opened the curtains to see what’s outside yet.
Sounds like a pleasant day ahead Mick - enjoy.
Pleased you are back at home Ash, such a relief.
GrandMattie it’s time you rested, you’ve been though a lot, done a lot, it’s now time for you! Your town sounds delightful, a bit like Robin Hoods Bay.
So sorry about your DD hope she is better soon Ginster.
It’s a long time since I was in Granada, The Alhambra is quite something Brook
Looking for a book, urms I highly recommend any by Kristin Hannah, The nightingale, the four winds, the winter garden, all recommended. I’m reading Home again, just now.
Today is my Sainsburies delivery day, DH is going for a wet walk with Dd. Might go for a wet trip to Ripon.
Have the best day possible folks
Just to say, the Alhambra was a highlight of a trip to Spain back in the heady days of 2019!
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. After such a busy day yesterday (lunch out with the U3A and WI meeting last night) a slightly quieter day is planned. I am having a blood test this morning (I have put off the 24-hour ‘pee’ test until next week as I need to be home all day and I won’t be.) I am seeing friends this evening. Beforehand, I will make one of OH’s favourites for dinner - Mac-n-cheese. Have a good day everyone.
Good Morning Mick and everyone from a rainy Hull.
Mick enjoy your coach trip and festive buffet and show.
Ashcombe it’s so good to hear you are recovering at home💐 I’m so worried about the NHS. When I took my uncle to the eye clinic the other day there were people lying on trollies having been brought in my ambulance. The nurse taking the bloods said they had to take them as there was no other room and apologised that we had to see them so poorly😢
So sorry to hear worrying news about family and friend such a lot to mention this morning but thinking of you all💐
I’m taking my mum shopping this morning as her knee is still bad. I’ve a relaxing hair appointment at lunch and later picking up Grandson from school. Son will stay for tea when he comes for him.
Have a good day everyone if you can and again sorry for all the worries on here today 🌻🌻
For Ash.....🌷👍
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a dark, extremely wet South Yorkshire. It’s absolutely pouring down. I hope your day out is enjoyable Mick! I have a food shop to do today and then I am going to make a start on sorting out the freezer in the garage, which is in a bit of a muddle. There is stuff in there I am never going to eat now and I need the space. Brook I loved the Alhambra, and the Generalife Gardens. Such a timeless, calming place.
Ash good to see you home👏. Take it steady.
Have the best day you can folks.
Good morning all and it’s still hammering down. ☔️
Dd has just messaged me to ask me to take little DGD to school.
Dd has had a really bad cold and terrible cough for over a week now. Antibiotics haven’t helped and she’s very breathless . Might be admitted into hospital today. Cancer has weakened her immune system.
I’m on standby to help any way I can.
Kindly wishes to you all. 💕
NanaKate, indeed the streets are narrow. It is claimed that we still have the longest, narrowest medieval street in England…. Most are one way, and the system is impenetrable to nonresidentdps. 😂
Good morning from a dark, damp East Yorkshire.
So pleased you are home Ash but what an experience that was by the sounds of it. I feel so sorry for the over worked staff.
I would say the tiredness is telling you to slow down GM
Oo bara brith Karmalady that’s been on my mind! I have a dear friend who’s DH is Welsh. He is 90 soon and in a care home with dementia. I’ve been racking my brain for a suitable Welsh themed gift.
I hope your DH isn’t suffering too much NanKate and that you don’t catch it 🤞
Loving hearing of your travel adventures and time in Granada brook
Yesterday we went for lunch at a nice place over the Humber bridge. We got a voucher for 10% off at the small garden centre next to it so I bought a few bits I’d previously seen in there. There is also a few small outlets at the back of it. I ordered a Christmas cake from a sweets/cake one. It was a very reasonable price. The staff are so friendly there as was the lady at a boutique that’s recently opened at the unit next door.
I’m going to sort and defrost my small freezer today and have a sort out of one of my food cupboards. Exciting eh! I also have birthday presents to wrap as it’s my GDs birthday too tomorrow. Same date as your Dollie Marydoll
Have a good day everyone.
