: A store that sells new husbands has opened in London where a woman may go to choose a husband.
Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

You may visit this storeONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increases as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor or may choose to go up to the next floor but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband.
On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men have jobs.
She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 2 - These men have jobs and love children.
'That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.'

So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love children, and are extremely good-looking.

'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love children, are extremely good-looking, and do housework..

'Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!'

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love children, are extremely good-looking, do housework, and have a strong romantic streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please.
Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

PLEASE NOTE:

To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a New Wives store just across the street.

The first floor has wives that love sex.

The second floor has wives that love sex, have money and like beer.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.

😂 It's been a while since we had a Joke Thread anything to lighten the gloom is good - imo.
Rufus - ❤
(Apologies for harking back to my own post)

Ok. So, That's why we don't have Joke threads 😵
What did strike me was, if it was a Craft thread would we comment on how much we disliked the handywork? or pass on by? If it was gardening, would we comment on how environmental the choice was? Then there's Politics.........

If the subject doesn't suit why worry?

Etc. etc.

There are a few stereotypes in here and they are not the ones who laughed at the joke, either.

This thread really has reminded me that some gransnetters could start a row in an empty room.

I'm out.

Thank you Aveline for your reply.

I’m out too. It’s run its course.
I thought the original one was funny, poking fun at both sexes. I wouldn’t find the racist one funny even if it wasn’t racist.

Messages in this thread remind me of the reason I rarely contribute

This shows exactly where society stands - equality is very much a gap

Yes it is very mysoginitic and unacceptable - in my view
It displays women as asking for the bare minimum and be treated like human beings and men satisfying their own selfish personal priorities

After all, isnt all in the personal sense of humour, as other posters wrote?

Vintagejazz Mon 21-Nov-22 12:59:25

It depends on whether you think it misogynistic. In my opinion it pokes fun at both men and women.

FannyCornforth Mon 21-Nov-22 12:58:38

Wyllow I’m so sorry to hear of your situation. Very best wishes for the future thanks

Hithere Mon 21-Nov-22 12:54:05

So a racist joke is unacceptable (I agree) but a misogynistic one is not?

Mollygo Mon 21-Nov-22 12:43:05

Hithere

Hey, the one in the original post is a joke too, some posters say

I wanted to make the point that "jokes" can hide the most unacceptable behaviour and attitude and try to make it pass as acceptable.

Well you didn’t do that very well IMO.

Thanks LancashireGran for your post at 12:35. I couldn’t have put it better.

LancashireGran Mon 21-Nov-22 12:35:55

Hithere, if that "joke" offended you as much as you say, why would you promote it still further by giving it more oxygen and broadcasting it on a public forum? Why would you possibly think it appropriate to repeat "a joke" about running any pedestrian down with a car and particularly a black person?

^Nah, buddy, you messed up and showed your racist card^

When all else fails bring racism into the mix.

I wonder if a thread deletion is imminent? Even if you didn’t find the joke funny, the thread itself is not only funny but quite mad. I’m off!

Yes it's become ridiculous and really shows how difficult it is to have a civil discussion on here.

Vintagejazz Mon 21-Nov-22 12:17:21

The two 'jokes' bear no comparison and I think your post is in extremely bad taste.

Hithere are you seriously suggesting that a proposal to ‘take somebody down’ would ever be seen as a joke on GN, whatever colour the victim was?

Maybe not Bubbles71 but some people are determined to find offense even in the most innocent of places. grin

In fact, this place reminds me of Motherland.
So many posters desperate to stay on the right side of the 'Amandas'grin

Yes you're right. It's why I don't post much anymore

Bubbles71 Mon 21-Nov-22 11:51:58
