Cheaper alternatives, suggestions.

Is it just me that thinks Aldi Nordpak goes slightly oily when you spread it on bread? It doesn’t seem to keep its consistency like other spreadable butters.

Lurpak no salt was £3.50 in Sainsbury as opposed to the salt variety at £5. Luckily we do not take salt so I bought a pack.

I use Flora vegan block. It tastes like butter, makes excellent cakes and no calves are killed to make it.

Block butter is cheaper and better, in my opinion (no additives).

I only ever use block butter it's the real thing including fat content! The spreads are a rip off paying a lot of money for a product that is mostly veg or rapeseed oil.
I only have a small amount of butter it's the taste that cannot be duplicated. I have made my own occasionally with the addition of a little sea salt.

A couple of months ago I went into M&S one afternoon and they had the very large tubs of double cream reduced, I bought some and came home and made my own butter, just adding a little salt. Mr Tl refused to eat it so I froze it in smaller portions and have been using all for myself, tastes really nice. I also freeze block butter and always buy an extra block when on offer, it has gone up in price so much that like many things you have to look out even more for the bargains.

Butter making is so easy.
Cream, salt and a little oil if you want it more spreadable.

NanKate Earlier this year, Sago started a thread about making your own butter, might be worthwhile looking at that.

I always buy block butter, no added ingredients ( good or bad).

I have found that if I microwave butter so that some is melted and then beat it together it stays much softer,I ted to keep a small amount in the cupboard rather than the fridge.

I’ve started to use block butter, which is far cheaper, to replace the softer tub butter. I stopped buying Lurpak when I discovered Denmark’s animal welfare isn’t as good as ours, so buy British now. Butter freezes well, so maybe take advantage of any reduction/special offer.

Aldi's and Lidl's own versions are just as good and about half the price of Lurpak.

Lidl’s version is very good too.

Aldi’s is called Norpak and is just as good as Lurpak
