Good Morning Thursday 23rd April 2026
Good Morning Everyone,
A dark and dry start here in brackley this morning, plans to do usual shop in Bicester, want to get some aluminum trays for cooking and Wilko seems to be the place to go .
Return home and have a quiet afternoon snooze .
Take Care,
Mick
Just popping back to say a huge Thankyou to you all for your kind thoughtful messages for my DD.
Your prayers and thoughts are so important and we are grateful to everyone of you. ❤️
GrandMattie I would have added two more choices for DL's guests - water, take it or leave it!!
I'm interested in a Yorkshire grans meet up, but it would take me at least two trains to get to Sheffield, not sure about Meadowhall - I've b been there once.
I'm at work today but just wanted to say how sorry I am Gingster, your poor DD has gone through so much. Sending a big hug to you both.
I remember that little ditty annsixty! 😁
Along with “Right said Fred” ... another bunch of tea drinkers!
☕️
Good morning all.I have an ear worm this morning.
I love a nice cup of tea and often sing the old music hall song
“ I like a nice cup of rea in the morning, to start the day you see”
If you are too young to know it it goes through the times of day ending with
“ And when it’s time for bed there’s a lot to be said for a nice cup of tea”
I substituted a glass of fizz for a nice cup of tea.
I have been singing it all morning.
What very silly things amuse me.
Good morning all from Glasgow where it is damp with a watery sun.
Busy morning as DD2 in Australia has taken to FaceTiming early morning, evening for her, DD1 arrived, joined in but DH gave up when, as he calls it, the conversation turned to girl talk, a language he doesn’t understand. 😄
Your poor DD Gingster I hope she recovers soon.
What a dreadful time you are having Marydoll. Stay strong💐
I too thought the champagne quip was said with humour meaning, we won’t stay long and don’t want you to go to any trouble on our behalf.
A few medical phone calls to make on behalf of DH, apart from that just taking the day as it comes.
Best wishes to all for a positive day.
Well done to your DD Hollysteers .
Good morning Mick and everyone. It’s a cool, cloudy morning in this corner of Lancashire. The sun keeps popping out, but more rain forecast and there’s a cold wind. Yellow warnings for both, I think we will be battening down the hatches today!
What a dreadful time your poor daughter is having Gingster, hope there’s some improvement soon.
Sorry you’ve hurt your back Marydoll, unbelievable that you still haven’t had those ‘emergency’ scan results. Hope today’s trip out goes well. I too thought GM’s lodger may be joking with the ‘only champagne’ comment.
Enjoy your holidays Brook and Ginny, the rain has just started battering against the window while I’m typing this!
Hope all our poorly grans and family members are on the mend. Wishing you all a good day.
Good morning Mick and all from a miserable northwest coast.
Looks like I’m weakening over the central heating, it’s on and off as v chilly and I face the Irish Sea, last road before the sand dunes.
Into town reluctantly yesterday for lunchtime recital as I was tired after my own gig and my back bothers me. Wish I hadn’t bothered as the programme was mainly Brahms, not my favourite composer. Chap sitting near me, a regular attender, was still wearing his shorts, which he wears throughout winter and summer 🥶
Great news from my flying DD, she has been promoted to a managerial position after getting through the interview process.
What a business grandMattie! Rather you than me and thoughts to gransnetters with poorly daughters and anyone with troubles.🌼
Morning all , it’s not “ good” it’s pouring! It’s windy ! It’s horrible!
I got a new garden ornament , a Robin perched on a leafy branch , it connects by magnet to a tall pole and swings in the wind , a weather vane type thing .
I love watching it , it was swinging merrily one minute , then gone the next ! I was afraid it had blown onto the driveway so had to put on my coat and go search . I didn’t want anyone to drive over it and gets puncture it is very light but sturdy , found it and left it on the flower bed till the gusty wind is gone
Mary sorry you are so poorly 💐
All the mums /grans with poorly children have my sympathy
grandmadinosaur if you still have the idea of a meet up at Meadowhall in the new year, count me in. I can get straight through on the tram. Mind you, I could probably get to York in less time on the train, but hey….😁
Gingster
for your daughter! Hope she feels better soon.
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I went to bed at 7 pm last night and got up at 8.30 am. My cold hasn’t gone away but I’m feeling a bit more human. My cleaning ladies are due today but I’ll keep out of their way. It is Book Group today at our local cafe. I think I’ll miss it and my weekly visit to friends this evening. It actually looks quite beautiful outside. Commiserations to all those Grans who are unwell or who have daughters who are suffering. When my daughter was 15 she had to have an operation for scoliosis. I would have swopped with her in an instant.
I think the champagne comment was true, but I took no notice and thought it was hilarious. I thought it would make you all laugh.
I’m so sad about the poorly daughters. As MD said, we mums would rather the thsn see our chicks in pain or sorrow. 🫂
Good morning from Durham. It’s wet but not actually raining. Gardeners came yesterday and did a whole day of pre-winter tidy up – dreading the bill.
Thank you GM’s for your kind words yesterday regarding my daughter. After a couple of months of setbacks - her little one was ill, she herself was admitted to hospital for a week with sepsis (still going 2x a week for obs) and her beloved doggy had to be put to sleep – the prospect of being made redundant really was the icing on the cake - not! Being clever, but dyslexic and a full-time Wheelchair user makes her want to go that bit further than everyone else around her, so very worrying that her current post was ear marked for redundancy (the bank of Mum would have to step in). We are all over joyed that following a phone interview she has gained a better post in the amalgamated company/bank.
My friend is back from holiday today – four weeks in South Africa staying with her brother, so I am picking her up from what will be a rainy, blustery Newcastle airport later this morning.
I’m sure gM was being humorous - when given the choice by friends, we often reply that ‘we don’t do still wine’ which is always taken as a joke. At least gM will be ticking off the days now.
Ginster your poor DD, I’d have swapped with my DD at the drop of a hat.
Best wishes to all, especially those dealing with their own health problems and those of their loved ones.
Gingster sorry to hear your daughter is so unwell hope she improves quickly.I am meeting a friend for lunch today .We will probably be doing some retail therapy after.Hope everyone has a good day .
Good Morning from a dull S Yorks.
The rain isn’t due to hit till 1pm - and just as well as my gardener is coming this morning. leaves - thick layer everywhere, to remove, I’m not sure she will be able to cut the lawns, last cut of the year, as planned.
The rest of the day - we’’ll see, it might be a snooze not the gym.
Gingster, wishing you and your DD the very best.
A very strange thing for them to ask for, G mattie. And fingers crossed for replacement tickets, Ash
Bests for shopping, hair appointments, outings and family meets.
Ooo, “going public” BlueSapphire, and take care Marydoll, glad you are there for DGS ShazzaKanazza
Grandmadinosaur that’s a “maybe” depending on CFS, good idea. I hope they are right about your boiler, Greyduster. I’m going to have to get a new thermostat control, it keeps making me re-set it.
Sorry to learn how unwell Marydoll feels and of Gingster’s daughter’s awful experiences. Nice calm morning, and I have the U3A book group here to discuss Barbara Pym’s “An Unsuitable Attachment” this morning, a cup of tea with a friend this afternoon and a short practice of Sunday’s Advent music so I had better get started.
Like several others, I took the champagne comment to be a joke. Nobody would say that seriously - would they? Time for the DL to find a new hotel for sure!
Good morning Mick and everyone from a damp-ish Carlisle where it is now trying to brighten up.
I went for my hospital appointment yesterday afternoon, leaving plenty of time. I was late! It meant driving across the city which was practically in gridlock. So many people out and about in their cars all made worse by roadworks caused by various utilities everywhere. Then, when I arrived at the hospital the car parks were jam-packed and queues of cars were cruising round and round in futile hopes of a space. All due to visiting restrictions being lifted I guess. I gave up in the end and parked the car temporarily in one of the several empty disabled bays whilst I nipped in, already late, to tell the staff I'd be even later whilst I carried on looking for another space. Fortunately a kindly staff member offered up his space outside for me, I don't know where he put his car but I was very grateful.
I hope your DD is successful Ashcombe but it's so near Christmas now. I was looking for flights there for Christmas in early autumn but didn't make my mind up. When I looked again a fortnight ago, they'd gone up by £1000! I'm off to Surrey instead.
I'm so sorry to read about your DD Gingster. What a horrible time she's having. I do hope things improve very soon.
And I wish all of you the best possible day.
Good morning all from a bright W Kent.
So sorry to hear about your DD's problems Ginster I hope she gets the medicine needed.
Ashcombe hope your DD2 is able to do her long journey.
Honestly gM your DL's guests are getting beyond farce!
Off to art group this morning and then I intend to make a batch of spaghetti bol and put some away for Christmas
Best wishes to all
Good morning Michael and all GNs. South Yorkshire is shaping up to have a clear dry day🤞🏻. Wilko is good for most things I find, Mick. I was up early waiting for the heating engineer to come and check out the boiler after all the radiators went on strike yesterday. No leaks. He has diagnosed air in the system and said it “shouldn’t happen again”! I hope he’s right. I have laundry to do and some food shopping this morning and then I hope to get a short walk in - maybe in the local park.
Gingster I hope your DD starts to feel better very soon.
Ash fingers crossed for those flights!
Have the best day you can, folks!
Here’s Matt.
Good morning everyone from south Manchester. The sun was out a few minutes ago but now the dark clouds have gathered overhead again. Oo-er muther.
I’m meeting a friend for lunch who fancies the Italian restaurant just round the corner from me. Easy for me to meet in there!
I’ve just been passed a second brew so I’m going to settle in for a good read of all your posts now. Enjoy Thursday all who can.
Good morning from a grey NE.
Big Sainsbury's shop yesterday before lunch and had a trip to an outlet centre in the afternoon. I bought quite a few things including a very nice pair of ankle boots.
I tidied the study cupboards the other day and need to get the rubbish out for the binmen. Then maybe I will put photographs into albums I bought as a project for lockdown, lazy granny almost three years on.
Sorry to hear your DD is so poorly Ginster.
GrandMattie I suspect DL'S visitors were joking and it was said so that you would not go to any trouble on their behalf.
Good morning everyone.
I am so sorry to hear about all the illnesses and problems and hope they can soon be alleviated as much as possible.
This morning we have docked in Grand Canaria and are off on an excursion in half an hour.
Last night I managed to see Alfie Boe in the theatre for a second time. It was even better than the first Ty.
Hope today brings you all a smile .
Good Morning Mick and everyone from a damp blue skied Hull.
Ash hope your DDs can all spend a lovely time together in Australia once the travel situation is sorted. 🤞
Gingster so very sorry your DD is feeling so poorly. Sending her 💐 and much love.
Cornergran at the top of our street we have a huge flood trench built in response to the 2007 floods. I noticed there is a lot of water in there. I couldn’t believe the rain yesterday but the afternoon was gorgeous.
Good morning to our new posters 👋👋
Today I’m taking my mum shopping. My brother usually takes her but he’s having health worries with his wife so I stepped in. Picking DGS up from school later and DS will stay for his evening meal. GS is going through a phase where he doesn’t want to go home he doesn’t get upset he just drags out the leaving process. I think it’s because he goes from our lovely warm lit house to a dark house that no one has been in all day bless him. His life has changed so much with his parents split. He struggles to understand.
Have a good day everyone hoping those feeling ill and stressed have some respite today. 🌻🌻
